Chapter 229 - 229: The Death of the Raikage

As an elder of Mount Myoboku, Fukasaku naturally recognized the Reaper Death Seal. He also understood the price required to activate it.

Seeing Jiraiya preparing to use the technique, he immediately tried to stop him.

"Jiraiya, don't! You're the one destined to save the ninja world—that's the Great Toad Sage's prophecy! If you die here, the future will become unpredictable!"

Jiraiya reassured him with a small smile.

"No need to panic. I don't have to sacrifice my own soul to use this seal. Just watch."

With that, he produced the Soul Vessel, releasing the soul of a captured elite jōnin as an offering to the Shinigami.

The Shinigami's crimson eyes glowed as it extended a spectral hand, seizing the offered soul and devouring it.

With its price claimed, the Shinigami turned its gaze to the Raikage. Its malevolent grin widened as it raised its ritual dagger and drove it toward the immobilized Raikage, who was still trapped within the illusion, powerless to resist.

Onoki, the Tsuchikage, couldn't just stand by and watch.

His hands clapped together, a cube of radiant white light forming between his palms. Then, with a surge of chakra, he unleashed a blinding beam straight at Jiraiya.

"Dust Release: Detachment of the Primitive World Technique!"

This was Onoki's most powerful attack—an unstoppable force capable of reducing anything it touched to dust at the atomic level.

"Jiraiya, move!" Fukasaku shouted, knowing full well the destructive power of Dust Release.

Jiraiya, however, remained calm. "No need to worry. I can handle this."

With a flick of his wrist. Five different chakra natures surged across its surface, forming a radiant, multicolored barrier.

The white beam struck the barrier, but instead of obliterating everything in its path, it merely trembled before being nullified.

"Impossible!" Onoki's eyes widened in disbelief.

He knew exactly how devastating Dust Release was, and yet Jiraiya had negated it so effortlessly. The sheer power gap was overwhelming.

At the same time, the Shinigami's blade plunged into the Raikage's body, pinning him in place. A spectral hand followed, reaching into his chest and violently ripping his soul free.

The Raikage's spirit struggled, but against the Shinigami, he had no chance. The soul was shoved into the entity's gaping maw, devoured whole.

And just like that, the Third Raikage—the man famed for his invincible shield—was no more. His body might have been nearly indestructible, but his soul was utterly defenseless.

The Reaper Death Seal was a terrifying technique. In the original history of the ninja world, it had only appeared twice, yet each time it had proven unstoppable.

Jiraiya exhaled lightly. "That's all? I was expecting more of a fight."

His eyes shifted toward Onoki, who felt a sudden chill run down his spine. The look Jiraiya gave him reminded him of the time he and his master had encountered Uchiha Madara—a moment of pure, unshakable fear.

Onoki had considered the Raikage one of the toughest men alive. And yet, against Jiraiya, he had lasted mere moments.

Even the Mizukage, who had been observing from the sidelines, felt his breath hitch. The speed of the Raikage's death had shaken him to his core.

A Kage-level ninja, slain in an instant. The realization sent shivers through all who witnessed it.

"Jiraiya... how did you offer another's soul as a sacrifice?" Fukasaku finally broke the silence, his voice laced with shock.

"A relic from the Warring States era," Jiraiya replied cryptically. "Let's just say it allows me to collect souls."

Fukasaku and Shima exchanged glances but chose not to press further. So long as Jiraiya was unharmed, they wouldn't question the means.

Jiraiya turned his attention back to Onoki. "Well then, you're next."

He raised a hand, manipulating iron sand into a massive, weighted spear before hurling it at the Tsuchikage.

Onoki's eyes narrowed. "Magnet Release? Is Shukaku sealed inside you?!"

Regaining his composure, he launched another Dust Release attack, instantly disintegrating the incoming spear.

Jiraiya smirked. "Does it matter?"

Without missing a beat, he and the two toad sages formed hand seals.

A roaring inferno surged forward, a tidal wave of fire swallowing everything in its path.

Onoki retaliated instantly.

"Lava Release: Eruption Burial!"

Tapping into the power of the Four-Tails, Jiraiya channeled pure fire chakra into the earth. The ground beneath Onoki erupted, forming molten ridges that pulsed with heat, growing ever larger and ready to explode at any moment.

This was a technique Jiraiya had developed after observing Roshi's unique style.

The ground trembled, then detonated in a cascade of lava.

Onoki roared, "Earth Release: Super-Weighted Rock Slope!"

Massive earth formations rose to block the flames, but they barely lasted a moment before being reduced to smoldering rubble.

"Water Release: Surging Tides!"

From the side, the Mizukage, still battling Jiraiya's guardian deity, unleashed a towering wall of water. The flood crashed against the firestorm, sending steam billowing into the sky and halting its advance.

For a moment, the battlefield was obscured in thick mist. freewebnσvel.cѳm

Onoki exhaled in relief—until the next moment.

"Infinite Darkness Jutsu!"

A jutsu invented by the Second Hokage. Instantly, Onoki's world was swallowed by pitch-black void, his sense of sight completely erased.

Panic gripped him. Against an opponent as powerful as Jiraiya, being blinded was a death sentence.

Jiraiya's strength was already overwhelming. Now, stripped of vision, Onoki could do nothing but wait for the inevitable.
