Chapter 67 - 67: Pain's Six Paths Descend !

[Scene Continues]

[In the narrow, long alley, Jiraiya stood waiting for the three Paths of Pain to arrive. Soon, the sound of their hurried footsteps echoed through the damp passage. Jiraiya whispered, "Ma, Pa... let's begin!"]

[Fukasaku (Pa) and Shima (Ma) exchanged glances, then let out powerful croaks, reminiscent of a bizarre courtship ritual, initiating their potent sound-based Genjutsu.]

[Combining the elder toads' Genjutsu with his own deductions, Jiraiya used a Shadow Clone and Ninjutsu to draw the attention of the Preta Path. He then employed the Genjutsu to incapacitate the Human Path and finally interrupted the Animal Path's summoning technique with a decisive strike!

In mere moments, Jiraiya had dispatched three of Pain's bodies, achieving a swift, stunning victory!]

["I've finally made my choice... for the future of the ninja world!" Jiraiya declared, turning to leave, confident. Behind him lay the three defeated Paths.]

-------------------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile, across the Ninja World:

Shinobi watched in awe as Jiraiya, facing three opponents wielding the legendary Rinnegan, managed to defeat them all. Excitement surged through the onlookers.

They had initially assumed Jiraiya could only hope to escape with his life.

They never expected such a stunning counter-offensive, successfully taking down three of the fearsome Akatsuki members.

His incredible strength bolstered the confidence of shinobi everywhere, making the dreaded Akatsuki organization seem, for a moment, less invincible!

-------------------------------------------------------------

In Konoha Village,

"Lord Jiraiya is amazing!"

"I never knew! Lord Jiraiya isn't just a great writer, he's incredibly strong too!"

"If only I could have a long talk with Lord Jiraiya someday!" exclaimed one admirer.

Tsunade shot a sharp glare at a particular kunoichi who was striking a pose and looking utterly smitten. The woman paled instantly, falling silent under the Hokage's gaze.

"Hmph! That idiot Jiraiya... he can actually be reliable when it counts," Tsunade muttered, trying to mask her concern with her usual gruffness.

But just as a flicker of warmth towards the 'prodigal Sannin' crossed Tsunade's mind, she found herself dreading what the next scene might reveal.

-------------------------------------------------------------

[The Scene Continues]

[Jiraiya, preparing to withdraw from the battlefield, was suddenly ambushed. The Asura Path of Pain lunged, grabbing his left arm and declaring, "You taught me never to let my guard down... Jiraiya-sensei!"]

[With a deafening BLAST, the Asura Path attacked. Jiraiya was violently thrown across the water's surface, his left arm severed in the explosion. Blood stained the murky water around him. Though grievously wounded, Jiraiya fought to remain focused.]

["Jiraiya-boy! Your arm!" Fukasaku cried out, horrified.]

[But Jiraiya, barely wincing through the shock and pain, replied, "It's nothing... More importantly, that's another Path of Pain!"]

[Suddenly, an imposing, almost divine, BGM began. Jiraiya stared intently at the opening in the wall he'd previously blasted.]

[Six figures emerged from the darkness, landing with grim purpose. It was all Six Paths of Pain, their Rinnegan eyes fixed chillingly upon him. The newly arrived Asura Path rejoined them, alongside the resurrected forms of the three Jiraiya had just defeated.]

[The central figure, the Deva Path, spoke in a terrifyingly calm monotone:]

["We are Pain. The Six Paths... have assembled."]

.....

Shockwaves rippled through the watchers!

An icy dread filled the air across the Ninja World as they were stunned into silence by the appearance of the full Six Paths of Pain.

Even through the viewing screen, they could feel the overwhelming, crushing pressure emanating from the six figures.

It was like witnessing vengeful gods descend upon the earth.

The sight left them feeling utterly powerless, extinguishing any nascent thoughts of resistance.

...........

Back in Konoha,

The moment Tsunade saw Jiraiya's arm severed, her heart clenched violently. A sharp, wrenching pain shot through her. She struggled to reconcile the image of the Jiraiya she knew—the strong, seemingly invincible man who, despite his flaws, always provided a strange sense of security—with this grievously injured figure on the screen.

"Jiraiya..." she breathed, her voice tight with anguish.

Nearby, Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage, frowned deeply. Seeing Jiraiya maimed like this—a potential 'one-armed hero ' of Konoha—filled him with grim displeasure.

While Orochimaru had always been his most prized student in terms of potential, Hiruzen cared deeply for Jiraiya, his wild but loyal pupil. He had always allowed Jiraiya considerable freedom, rarely restricting his often-unconventional behaviour.

"Jiraiya..." Hiruzen thought gravely, "Don't make an old man grieve his student."

-------------------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile, in the Land of Rice,

Orochimaru observed Jiraiya's injury on his own monitor. A flicker of something unreadable—perhaps cold anger, perhaps something else—crossed his serpentine eyes before being instantly masked by his customary indifference.

He sneered, "Hmph. Serves him right for recklessly infiltrating the Hidden Rain Village to spy on Akatsuki."

"Only a fool like him would attempt such brazen espionage alone."

......

Elsewhere,

Naruto watched, horrified, as Pervy Sage lost his arm on screen. He instinctively reached out, touching the real Jiraiya's arm beside him as if needing physical proof he was still whole. A wave of temporary relief washed over him finding it intact.

"Pervy Sage!" Naruto pleaded, "Promise me! Promise me you won't fight Pain like this in the future!"

But Jiraiya merely stared intently at the screen, his expression unreadable, lost in thought. A dawning understanding seemed to settle in his heart. He suspected he now knew why his future self undertook this suicidal mission.

Most likely... it was for the sake of the knuckleheaded student sitting right beside him.

-------------------------------------------------------------

[The Scene Resumes]

["Six of them? But... the three we just defeated are among them!" Shima cried out, aghast.]

["Perhaps these newcomers resurrected them somehow?" Fukasaku surmised grimly.]

["How is that possible?! Are these things even human?!" Cold sweat beaded on Shima's forehead.]

[Suddenly, Jiraiya's eyes widened in shocked recognition as he focused on the face of the lead Path – the Deva Path. "Yahiko... is that you?!"]

["You see Yahiko's shadow in me? As expected of our former teacher," the Deva Path stated coolly, devoid of emotion. "But Yahiko is dead. We are Pain."]

[Jiraiya demanded, his voice thick with disbelief and rising anger, "Pain! Who—what—are you?!"]

[The Deva Path replied simply, ominously.]

["We are God."]

[With that chilling declaration, the Six Paths leaped down from their perch, instantly surrounding Jiraiya.]

["Jiraiya-boy, we must retreat! Now!" Fukasaku urged desperately.]

[Shima echoed, "You can't win against all six! Give it up! Fall back!"]

[But Jiraiya, already dodging their coordinated onslaught, gritted his teeth, blood dripping from his severed arm. "No! I have to figure out their secret... uncover the truth behind Pain... even if it costs me everything!"]

[At that moment, the Deva Path extended its hand—Universal Pull! A nearby tower wall was ripped free from its foundation and hurled directly towards Jiraiya. CRASH! Water erupted metres high as the massive debris slammed down, obscuring Jiraiya completely from view.]

[As the six Paths focused their attention on the impact zone, Jiraiya, hidden within Fukasaku's mouth using a clever toad technique, struck! He ambushed the Animal Path, dragging it into the toad's gullet and finishing it instantly with a powerful Rasengan!]

["Well done, Jiraiya-boy!" Fukasaku praised, spitting out the remains.]

[But in its death throes, the defeated Animal Path managed to lash out one last time, thrusting a black receiver rod from its hand, piercing Jiraiya through the right shoulder.]

[Cough! Jiraiya spat blood, his face paling further, his breathing becoming ragged from the new wound.]

["Jiraiya-boy, fall back! Please!" Shima pleaded again.]

[But Jiraiya weakly shook his head. "Ma, Pa... please, return without me. I have to go back... one more time. There's something I absolutely must confirm."]

["No!"]

["You'll be killed for sure! This is our only chance to escape alive!" the toads protested.]

[Jiraiya insisted, his voice strained but firm, "Going back now... might mean death. But I might finally understand the real truth behind Pain! If I miss this chance, who else will get this close? Who else can uncover their secret?!"]

["Ma, Pa... Please, take this body... and the information I've gathered... Get it back to Konoha! Tell Tsunade..."]

[The image froze at this critical, heart-stopping moment.]

Leaving the watchers in Konoha, and across the Ninja World, grappling with a cruel, unbearable possibility,

Jiraiya, the Legendary Sannin, might truly die here.

On the square in Konoha,

Tsunade stared blankly at the screen, at the battered, bleeding image of Jiraiya. She had never seen him look so defeated, so utterly vulnerable. But the thought that stung most, twisting painfully in her chest, was...

Would that idiot... would he think of her in his final moments?

"Jiraiya..."
