My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World-Chapter 471: The Green Portal
Chapter 471: The Green Portal
As the alchemists explored the entire battlefield, searching for and healing survivors, Melina and I went back inside G’Henna’s tower after Sage Astra asked for our presence.
The sage and Yuki stayed on the 99th floor, where the demonic portal was located.
After I died for a few minutes during the battle, it seemed like the gem-link that sealed the portal stopped working. Thus, many powerful demons began to enter our world through it, leading Yuki, Sage Astra, and their team of mages and samurai to deal with them.
Fortunately, the gem-link returned to its normal state and re-sealed the portal right after I came back to life. However, Sage Astra said in her message that the energy produced by the gem was strange—though it wasn’t dangerous.
Since we couldn’t go to the 99th floor from the top, considering the terrace on the 100th floor didn’t have a way to go back down, Melina and I had to enter the tower from the bottom and make our way up.
Thankfully, with most demons being defeated and with soldiers guarding almost every room, it didn’t take us a long time to get there.
When we arrived, I was surprised to see that the portal had changed to a light green hue revolving inside a white vortex.
The gem-link was hovering on top of it, repeatedly changing colors while producing a strange but soothing energy that surrounded the portal.
None of the people in the room understood what it meant—not even Sage Astra.
They could tell that the energy wasn’t dangerous to them, but their senses weren’t keen enough to detect the gem’s intentions.
"It worked..." I muttered with a satisfied smile on my face, confusing the others around me.
Out of curiosity, I approached the portal and extended my hand into the vortex. However, an invisible force made me retract my arm back as if gently asking me not to.
"Sage Ichiro... Please explain what’s happening," Sage Astra commented, inspecting the portal with a thoughtful gaze.
They already knew that the portal was a gateway to hell, the realm of demons.
Only the Demon King was able to open such a portal to bring his forces into our world, and it was meant to disappear along with the king’s death.
Yuki and Sage Astra got a little nervous when I said that, wondering if the demon king hadn’t perished, which would explain why the portal wasn’t disappearing.
However, I kept elaborating and explained that the gem-link was preventing the portal from closing.
The gem had been created by the first sage with the help of hundreds of mages, and it would attune itself to the owner’s desire.
When I first took out the gem in front of the demon king and the portal, it completely sealed the entrance to our world, and the gem was acting based on my needs. Now that the war was over, the gem re-attuned itself to me and changed its actions.
"So, what does it do now?" Yuki pondered aloud.
"Well, if it works like it’s supposed to, it should only allow demons with emotions to go through it..." I replied, shocking the people in the room.
I retold the story I had seen inside the Moon Spire, where I was shown the memories of the first sage, Alejandro, and how he was also friends with a couple of demons.
After Alejandro sank the entire continent to prevent the demons from invading the rest of the world, he killed the demon king and got rid of the portal. As a result, his demon friends also disappeared.
The gem-link was being created precisely to prevent that from happening, but sadly, it wasn’t completed until mere seconds after the continent was already sinking.
"Ah, so that’s why the remaining demons didn’t disappear!" Melina exclaimed.
Confirming their suspicions, I told them that I didn’t want Jackson, Nessa, and even the imp, Grul, to return to hell after they had built peaceful lives in our world.
Trachios, the cyclops we met in the tower, also looked pleased when we told him that he could stay with us instead of returning to his realm, so I wanted other ’good’ demons to have similar lives.
"It’ll take some time, but if we fix this place a bit, we could give the new demon residents a warm welcome!" Melina commented, scanning the slightly destroyed room and seeing large splatters of blood and burnt marks all around.
"Yeah... I suppose leaving hell to arrive on a battlefield is a bit much," I replied with a chuckle.
Before we could focus on bringing demons into our world, we still had to help our troops return home, and we also needed to ask the rulers for support.
We needed personnel who could document the entrance of new demons and help develop the Lost Continent. While Melina and I were quite capable, we still needed support to build an entire country.
When I cracked my knuckles with determination and started preparing myself to build a city near the tower, Sage Astra gently placed her hand on my shoulder. "You should rest for now..." she said with a slight smile.
Melina and my companions instantly agreed with the sage, telling me that overworking was unnecessary because we were not in a hurry. Moreover, Sage Astra wanted to find other talented people who could help with the restoration of the Lost Continent.
Seeing all their worried expressions and then glancing at my utterly destroyed clothing, I believed that my companions had a good point, so I decided to rest for three days while Sage Astra searched for workers around the world.
Thanks to the magic quartz, countries were able to send their people to a whole other nation in mere seconds, so people who wanted to contribute to the restoration wouldn’t even have to take a boat to get here.
During those three days of waiting, Melina and I made our way to the southern shore of the continent, where part of the massive wall that used to separate the land from the rest of the world still stood tall.
There were small islands between the mainland and the wall, and the entire area would’ve had more touristic appeal if it didn’t have such a massive black wall in the distance.
For that reason, one of the first things we decided to do was slowly take down the wall, which proved to be much harder than expected, considering the material was highly resistant to magic.
Fortunately for us, an old fairy friend came to visit us after spectating the battle from End Town—Ivy, and she said that she could help move the wall to the bottom of the sea with the support of other fairies. freewebnøvel.com
"So, uhh... Couldn’t you have done that before when we needed to go through the wall?" Melina asked Ivy.
"Of course not!" Ivy replied, seemingly indignant.
The fairy explained that it wasn’t a job that she could muster alone, and the other fairies wouldn’t have lent a hand unless we showed our capabilities. Now that we were responsible for winning the war against the demons, she was sure the other fairies would support us.
Still, Ivy said that it would take them one month at the very least to get rid of the entire tower, but honestly, I thought that wasn’t that long for the amount of work they had to do.
