Chapter 169: Small Town of Meisi

As I kept engrossed in reading Alejandro’s journal, I kept finding out about interesting stuff that I had no idea about.

For example, he said that if you traveled to the end of the jungle, which was plagued with monsters, there was an area with trees that were called "Arcana trees," and he said they were the sturdiest wood in the world.

My bo had become almost unusable after my fight with Zagor since the magic output that I fused into it was too much for it to take, so I was pretty interested in those "Arcana trees" as I would need a new weapon.

On another page, he talked about a devil that appeared years after he had founded Kalusia and explained that he encountered the monster at the savannah.

Alejandro described the devil as an extremely powerful and evil entity that wanted to bring chaos to the world, and after fighting him for an entire day, he cast a spell that brought down a comet from the sky.

The meteor was enough to kill and vaporize the devil, leaving behind a crater that would later be known as the Starstone mine for the people of Kalusia.

It was quite surreal to read this, as I knew that this wasn’t common knowledge for the people in this country.

The fact that the meteor crashed in the savannah and left all those resources for the beastkins was no mere coincidence, but it was quite literally a spell that Alejandro used to kill the devil of that time.

My companions were helping with the reconstruction of the library while I kept reading, getting to a section of the book where he talked about his experience learning magic.

It was pretty interesting since he said that he didn’t have any references or guides that could teach him how to use his powers, so he had to practice and find out by himself.

’Could it be that Phelena started giving her tutorial book after seeing Alejandro struggle for years to master his powers?’ I pondered.

In the last few pages, he talked about another nation that existed during his time here called "Durinhold," where dwarves resided.

Apparently, the dwarves helped Alejandro in the creation of Kalusia’s castle in exchange for him helping them get rid of a devil that was trying to take over their nation.

’Huh, so the dwarve’s nation is even older than Kalusia...’ I thought.

After my companions were finished helping and the library had its frame rebuilt, I left the book back in its spot and kept exploring the city.

I asked Gina what was the closest farm town to the capital, and she said that most farms were located in the savannah, as the jungle was too dangerous for them to inhabit.

There were a few settlements deep inside the rainforest, but even Zagor gave up on trying to conquer them, as his lesser demons couldn’t get far in before getting attacked by monsters.

Gina told me that the beastkins that lived in the jungle never left their territory, and while they didn’t have a bad relationship with the beastkins residing in the city or the savannah, they barely interacted.

It was already getting late in the afternoon, but I wanted to check one of the farm towns in the savannah, so I asked Gina to guide me there.

The trip took a little over an hour to get there by flying, which wasn’t too bad, considering the expanse of the area.

It was a small town called "Meisi," and it was in a pretty rough shape.

The residents were working on rebuilding their homes, and the streets seemed like they had been scorched.

When we advanced to the capital, our group wasn’t the one responsible for freeing Meisi as it was closer to the direction that the prince from the Empire came from.

I wondered if they had been the ones responsible for burning down so many of their homes, but I doubted that was the case, or I would have heard about it when it happened.

As we descended, we were met by a beautiful beastkin woman who had the features of a bunny and was delegating the citizens to complete tasks around their town.

"Luna!" Gina exclaimed, flying towards the bunny woman and giving her a hug.

"Gina?! I’m so glad you are okay," she responded, hugging the battle-maid back.

It turned out that Luna was a battle-maid like Gina who had stayed behind to help the royal family escape after Zagor attacked them.

During her time as a slave, she was sent to Meisi to do labor with the residents there, and since she was the strongest beastkin around, the people started seeing her as the leader of their small town.

It reminded me a little bit of End Town and how they made Jackson the mayor without him ever agreeing to it. However, Luna seemed a bit more enthusiastic in her work than he did.

After Gina introduced us to the bunny battle-maid, I asked Vespera to help the citizens rebuild their homes while Luna took me to the farm to show me the damages.

She explained that when Zagor took Meisi, he burned down the fields and the town almost entirely, which led to lots of beastkin starving as they weren’t getting any imported food either.

While I was annoyed at her story and how Zagor treated them, I felt strangely relieved knowing that the Empire didn’t cause the destruction.

When we arrived at the farm, I almost doubted her words when she said that it used to be a field full of crops, as it was literally a scorched and barren land without a single weed growing from it.

’Hmmm, I could potentially use nature magic to bring more nutrients to the earth. That would make crops able to grow here again...’ I thought as I inspected the desecrated ground.

Still, there was one problem that would hold us back. Seeds.

Everything I had ever planted came from a seed since it’s not like I could just conjure any item with magic, and seeing the land’s state made it evident that there wouldn’t be any seeds around for us to plant.

However, Luna had a backup plan for that sort of event, which surprised me a little since it wasn’t the type of emergency that an ordinary person would plan ahead for.
