My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World-Chapter 142: Inside Enemy Territory
Chapter 142: Inside Enemy Territory
After taking down the Terra Titan before it could wipe out the empress’ army, we searched around the perimeter but found nobody nearby.
Part of the colossus’s body ended up destroying a small part of the wall when it crumbled, which would have been a good opening for the army to enter the borders, but since there was no one guarding the gates, we simply opened them up for the soldiers to pass.
"Gina, what do we do with this?" I asked the battle-maid as I showed her the titan’s heart, which was quite large and heavy.
She explained that there was a chapel in the capital dedicated to Garon where they could put the heart into a socket and bring the titan back to life, meaning that we would have to keep the massive red orb with us for some time.
I put it in my void pocket for safekeeping and went to talk to the empress, who was inspecting the site of the debris from the titan.
"Now we know why they moved their forces to the north..." Lysandra commented.
We were the first part of the army that reached Kalusia’s borders, so the empress thought of an idea to help the other two groups finalize their push.
The group on the south of the desert was being led by the prince of the empire and was getting close to the border. However, their side of the wall would most likely be protected by soldiers.
The north was being led by the sultan of Aridonia and his commanders, but they were fighting against a larger enemy force that was keeping them from pushing them out of the desert.
Lysandra sent two large groups to each side to flank the soldiers on the walls and make way for the other two armies to push through. Meanwhile, we would set camp a bit further into their territory.
After we crossed the wall and left the desert behind, I was able to detail the environment of Kalusia more clearly.
Giant red mesas and plateaus, which were tall mountains with flat tops and very steep sides, surrounded the semi-arid field that seemed to extend hundreds of kilometers in the distance. freewebnoveℓ.com
Gina told me that Kalusia had three types of climates. The semi-arid desert that was next to the Aridonia desert, the savannah that extended to both sides of their territory, and the rainforest located on their southern side.
The capital was located between the savannah and the rainforest, but Gina expressed that there were dozens of small settlements and towns that were on the way to the capital that had all been enslaved by Zagor.
We knew that there were hidden warehouses filled with black pearls since the first beastkin that we cured told us about it, but we had no way of tracking which of these settlements had them since there were supposed to be dozens out there.
After we set up our camp under the shade of a tall plateau, I flew to the top of it with my companions to survey the area until nighttime, when I received a message on the voice crystal from Lampart and Rio.
[ Ichiro, we found a warehouse!
The town is called Howlsridge, but we have a problem-]
"Wait, the message cut off!" I exclaimed as I stood up with urgency.
"Gina, where is Howlsridge?" I asked the battle-maid who had listened to the message with me.
"It’s one of the closest towns to the border..." she replied, explaining that we could fly and get there in a few hours.
It was a long time, but we couldn’t waste any more time if Lampart and Rio were in trouble, so I quickly descended to the camp and told the empress that I would be leaving for a few hours.
She understood the situation and said that they wouldn’t advance until the rest of the army managed to pass through the borders. Nonetheless, I still gave her a voice crystal, just in case.
I found it funny that I created those messaging artifacts to talk to Melina, but I ended up having to make like twenty to give to all the different people who could require my assistance at some point.
We flew southeast for two hours at the highest speeds we could reach until a small settlement was visible in the distance.
The town looked somewhat in ruins, as some houses had been destroyed while others were missing walls or roofs.
Beastkin were walking around with chains on their wrists and ankles, moving carts or carrying boulders full of minerals into a large house that seemed to be the only structure that was still standing tall in the town.
’Where are these guys...?’ I wondered as my companions and I watched the town from the sky.
"Could they have used the teleport gem you gave them?" Vespera asked.
"Hmm, if they did, then they would be at least 10 kilometers away from here..." I replied.
I decided to send them a voice message to see if we could get an answer. It was risky since they could have been captured, so I was feeling nervous about the wrong person listening to my message.
Nevertheless, there was no other option if we wanted to find them, so I sent a quick message asking where they were without exposing the fact that we were close by.
"No answer..." I muttered after waiting a minute.
"Yoru, get in there without anyone noticing you," I said to my companion, making him leave my shadow and descend to the ground using his new skywalk spell.
After Yoru used that spell to fight the Terra Titan, I thought he had gotten a new skill or something, but it turned out that he had created his own spell using air magic.
The way it worked was pretty genius since he turned the air under his paws into a solid material, allowing him to fly as if he were running on an open field.
When Yoru reached the ground, he quickly merged with the shadows of the buildings and began making his way inside the suspected warehouse.
[Show me what you see.] I said to Yoru using our telepathy, shifting my eyesight to my companion’s point of view.
