Chapter 84: [Chapter - 76] - Money! Money! Money!
Chapter - 76
Lucius parked the meat van in a dark, narrow alley, and turned off the engine. The street was almost empty at this time of the night. There was only one flickering streetlight nearby.
Lucius leaned back in the driver’s seat, with his arms crossed behind his head. There was a grin stretched across his face.
"Well," he grinned out loud, "That went better than expected."
[You think? We just scammed that almighty Imran for 26 million dollars. And gave him back a half-dead meatball of a brother in return. We are legends, Master. Legends! Hehehehe]
Lucius chuckled, as he agreed, "The look on Imran’s face when I handed him the bags..."
Lucius laughed louder now. His voice echoed softly in the empty alley.
"What a joke," he said, shaking his head, "Son of the richest men in the city, and I made him carry the ransom of his own brother. Hahahaha..."
[I have to say master, you are not an ordinary scammer. Are you sure it was your first time?]
Lucius smiled, satisfied. But then he looked back. The back of the town was packed with duffle bags filled with hard cash.
"Okay, fun’s over," he said, getting down from the van, "How the hell am I going to carry all this cash now?"
[Oh come on, Master. You can just use me.]
Lucius raised an eyebrow, as he opened the back of the van. The smell was still there as he scrunched his nose.
"You mean... like, can you store the money?" Lucius got on the back of the van.
[Of course. You can put anything non-living into the inventory. Money. Guns. Even this smelly van if you want.]
Lucius leaned forward, more interested now, "How do I do it?"
[Just hold it and think about putting it in the inventory. Just think. Simple as that.]
Lucius picked up one bundle of cash from one of the bags. It felt heavy, solid. He stared at it, then focused and thought of putting the bundle in the inventory.
And in an instant, the money vanished from his hand.
"Whoa."
[See? Easy]
And just like that, Lucius put his hand on the bundles of cash in front of him and like magic, it all disappeared. And one by one in no time, all the bags were emptied clean. In less than a minute, every single bag was empty. All 26 million dollars were gone, stored neatly in the inventory of the system.
Looking at the empty bags in front of him, Lucius clapped his hands once and grinned, "This changes everything."
[You are welcome. But you need to hurry up now.]
Lucius then looked at the time, "Ohhh shit, I am so late."
Lucius jumped out of the van, and walked into the alley without looking back.
He didn’t need the van anymore. Let it rot here. Its job was done.

Back at the Private room from Imran’s club.
Imran sat on the sleek leather couch, his elbows resting on his knees, staring down at the limp, bloated figure lying on a cot in front of him. He was gritting his teeth in anger.
Rauf was still unconscious, he lay there in his torn and bloodied clothes. His face was pale and his cheeks were swollen. And the smell coming off him was simply awful.
The more he looked at him, the more Imran frowned in disgust. How can he be his brother?
"Wake him up," he said without emotion.
Farouq stepped forward with a metal jug filled with ice water. Without a word, he splashed it over Rauf’s head.
Rauf gasped and jolted awake. He sat up quickly, opening his eyes wide in panic, flailing like a scared animal.
"Please! Please, don’t hurt me!" he shouted to no one in particular, "Lucius, I am sorry! Please don’t kill me! I will do anything, please... My brother, he will pay..."
Slowly as Rauf looked at his surroundings, he saw Imran. His body froze. He was left speechless for a second. His mind was slowly starting to make sense.
"Brother..." Rauf whimpered, as his voice broke, "You are here? Did you come here to save me? Did you kill that bastard? Don’t you spare him... He... He..."
Rauf’s lip trembled, as he cried out in sobs, loud and wailing sobs. He crawled on the cot towards Imran, grabbing his legs like a child.
"He’s crazy! That bastard’s going to kill me! He tied me up, he beat me, he put me in a meat van! Brother, you have to protect me!"
"He needs to know what it means to go against our family."
"Where is he?"
"Did you already kill him?
"Where is his body? I will skin him alive and..."
"Enough!" Imran raised his hand and slapped Rauf hard across the face.
SLAP!
The sound echoed in the quiet room. Rauf froze. His eyes were wide again, filled with confusion and pain.
"W... Why did you hit me?" he asked softly.
"Shut up," Imran said coldly.
He stood up and looked down at Rauf, "Who is that man? Lucius, did you say?"
" Who is behind him? Why did he take you?"
Rauf shook his head quickly, "No one Brother! It’s just him! He’s insane!"
"He is not with any gang. He is not with the police. He just... He just hates me, Brother!"
Imran narrowed his eyes, "Why? What did you do?"
"I... I didn’t do anything!" Rauf stammered, as he avoided eye contact with Imran.
"SPEAK!"
"Ye... Yes," Rauf was very scared of his brother. And with that he told him everything from beginning at the restaurant to the warehouse.
Imran raised his hand again and Rauf went quiet.
"He killed all of your men?" Imran repeated, "All nine of them. On his own."
Rauf looked away, ashamed.
Imran sat down again and rubbed his forehead.
"So it really was personal," he muttered, "So he has no reason to go against us."
For a moment, Imran said nothing. He closed his eyes and sighed.
"Twenty-six million," he whispered, "I had to give it away just because of a girl."
Farouq stayed silent nearby, arms crossed. Imran opened his eyes again and looked at Rauf.
"Listen to me carefully," he said, "From this moment forward, you will never go near that man again."
Rauf blinked, "But..."
"And that girl Elena. Isn’t she that cop you are chasing?" Imran asked, only to get a nod from Rauf.
"Forget her. She’s not worth another dime of our money. And she’s definitely not worth another drop of our blood."
Rauf wasn’t convinced, but he still nodded quickly, wiping his face.
Lucius wasn’t an enemy. Not yet. But if he became one... it would be a war they might not win.
"Farouq. Take care of that warehouse and the bodies."

Lucius stood outside the mansion gate, looking around like a thief returning to the scene of the crime.
The sun was already rising, and the sky outside was turning pale orange. Birds chirped quietly in the distance. It was almost 6:30 in the morning when Lucius returned to the mansion.
He looked like a thief trying to sneak back home without being caught.
The front yard was quiet. Most of the staff was just starting their day. They must be busy either cleaning or making food. Lucius walked slowly, hugging the walls, avoiding the windows. His clothes were wrinkled, his shoes were dusty, and his hair was all messy. If Iris saw him, she would know for sure that he has been making trouble.
"Alright, just get in, go upstairs, take a shower, pretend nothing happened," he whispered to himself.
[Master, you do realize you are sneaking into a house you live in?]
"Shut up," Lucius muttered under his breath, eyes scanning the hallway as he entered the front door.
He tiptoed across the polished floor, heading toward the stairs. He thought he had made it. Just a few more steps.
But just then a calm voice stopped him, "Walk of shame this early in the morning?"
Lucius froze.
He turned slowly, only to find Iris sitting by the large window in the lounge area. She was dressed in a simple robe, her long black hair falling over one shoulder. A cup of steaming coffee rested in her hand, and her other hand held a folded newspaper.
She didn’t look at him at first. She casually sipped her coffee and flipped a page.
Lucius’s lips twitched, "System," he hissed in his mind, "Why didn’t you warn me?"
[Where’s the fun in that? I only do things that keep me entertained]
"You good for nothing..." fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
Iris finally looked up, raising one sharp eyebrow, "Well?"
"Where were you all night?" Iris asked Lucius.
Lucius gave a lazy smile, "I was with a friend. Didn’t I tell you last night?"
She blinked slowly, "So late?"
"I couldn’t find a cab," he replied.
"Oh?" she said, taking another sip, "And what about your date? That cop girl Elena? She couldn’t drop you home?"
Lucius straightened up fast, "Elena? Oh! Elena is... she is such a sweet girl. Very sweet."
"She’s so innocent, so thoughtful, so caring."
"But her father? That guy’s a real joykiller."
Iris didn’t say anything, just kept staring.
Lucius rubbed the back of his neck, "That old bastard dumped me in the middle of nowhere. It was awkward. But then I met a friend nearby. Had a few drinks. You know how it goes."
"And we lost track of time," He gave a tired shrug, "Anyway, I am exhausted. Gonna freshen up and crash. Elena might come any time to arrest me."
He turned quickly and started climbing the stairs before Iris could question him more.
Iris watched him go, her coffee untouched now.
Her smile faded. Her eyes narrowed.
"You just killed a bunch of men and scammed one of the richest people in the city for 26 million dollars," she whispered to herself, "Yet you are so calm, not showing it on your face?"
She set the newspaper down and looked up the stairs.
"Who are you, Lucius?" she said softly, "Was everything till now a lie?"

Elena walked into the police station, her shoes clicking sharply on the clean floor. She looked completely different from how she was last night.
The soft, sweet side was gone. She was back to being the cold, emotionless blonde cop everyone respected and feared.
Her hair was tied up tightly. Her uniform was perfectly pressed. Her lips held no smile.
She looked calm on the outside, but inside, she wasn’t calm.
Her eyes scanned around, watching the other officers, expecting something to happen. They were supposed to move today. They were supposed to arrest Lucius.
She had already delayed it by a day by using a favour from her father. But that was it. She couldn’t hold it back again.
Now, any moment, an official warrant should arrive. And dozens of officers would head to Iris’s mansion.
But nothing was happening.
The police station was running like normal. Officers were busy with their work writing reports, answering calls and filing complaints. There was not the usual fun and laughs echoing in the station. But there was no rush as well. The station was almost back to normal after just 2 days.
Elena sat down in her cabin, tapping her pen on the table. The arrest warrant was still missing.
Minutes passed.
Then an hour.
Still nothing.
She couldn’t hold back any longer. She wasn’t able to concentrate on anything else. She stood up, about to call someone from records to check what was happening. But just then her phone rang.
She looked down at the screen, Dad.
She picked it up immediately, "Dad?"
His voice was calm. Too calm.
"Don’t worry about your little loverboy."
"I... I wasn’t..." Elena stammered, "But what do you mean?"
"He has been removed from all official reports," Elena’s father told her, "He’s not under suspicion anymore. For now there is no arrest order against him."
"But... how? Who’s protecting him?" she asked.
Her father stayed quiet for a second.
"It’s obviously someone powerful," he said, "And smart. You don’t need to know who exactly. But they made all the right calls. The paperwork is clean."
"Is it Iris?" she asked quickly.
"I am not going to guess. But if I were you, I would stay away from that boy," he said, "And I think he is getting involved in something bigger now. It’s bigger than you think."
"Bigger?"
"For now there is no evidence yet. Just some burnt bodies. But I feel it’s him."
And with that, he ended the call.
Elena stared at her screen. Then she looked up. On the small wall-mounted TV in the office, a breaking news headline flashed across the screen:
"Warehouse Fire Leaves 9 Dead – Arson or Short-Circuit?"
’A mysterious fire broke out in an abandoned warehouse outside the city last night. Authorities discovered nine charred bodies inside. Investigation ongoing...’
Elena’s eyes widened.
"Burnt bodies..." she whispered.
