Murim's Weakest Princess-Chapter 139: High & Haughty
Chapter 139: High & Haughty
When the door to Researcher Yang’s lab finally opened, two assistants appeared. The first was a man, and the second was a woman. Neither of them looked particularly pleased at how late Anji was.
"Do you know what time it is?" snapped the woman with arms folded in front of her chest, glaring at Anji, who had her head bowed immediately.
Before Anji could explain her situation or apologise, the man clicked his tongue, emphasising their annoyance. However, he did not scold Anji. Instead, pulled the woman towards him and stared at the small child.
"You know why you’re here, right?" he asked Anji.
It was likely a rhetorical question because Anji was cut off before she could reply. However, after lifting her head, the state of the inner court shocked her.
Pointing at the utter mess that was Researcher Yang’s quarters, the man smirked at Anji.
"Even if you were young and late, surely you can’t be stupid seeing how you made it into this sect. For your tardiness, you will be punished. Researcher Yang is busy today and will not see you, but that does not mean you can slack off. Finish cleaning the lab and tidying the inner court before evening, or you will face my wrath. We have other important matters to attend to, so you had better not slack off."
Confused by the change in instructions, Anji wanted to clarify the misunderstanding, but the two assistants had already left the compound arm-in-arm flirting as they did. Anything she wanted to say would have fallen on deaf ears either way. The only silver lining was how Anji was left alone to do whatever she wanted in Researcher Yang’s lab.
Unlike the irresponsible couple that Anji wished would never have children, the young girl decided to have a look around first. Compared to the words of a mere senior researcher, she would rather trust the promises of the researchers who interviewed her yesterday. They only requested one chore done per day. Besides, Researcher Yang promised to be back to spend some time teaching her something when the chore was done.
Nobody said she had to do chores by hand. Moreover, since the assistants did not identify the chore she had to do, Anji had options to choose.
Thankfully, the research lab was full of materials that Anji could use to create her machines. The easiest chore had to be laundry because that was what she managed to do last night. However, the lack of heating stones made drying the clothes a tad more difficult. She did not have a heating chamber, but thankfully, she could just drape the wet clothes over chairs that she pulled outside. They should be dry by now with such strong sun. She would collect them in the evening.
Rummaging through the mess in the outer court, Anji realised that the inner court and research lab were worse than the exterior state. While the outer court was overgrown with heaps of unwashed laundry and dishes, the inner court was so disorganised, with stains of almost every kind everywhere. Anji had to hold her breath at the disgusting sight. From the corner of her eye, she spotted the source of the disgusting smell. It was coming from a rotting meal in a corner overturned probably a few days ago.
Researcher Yang was unlikely to be a person who enjoyed living in a dumpster. If anything, the high and haughty attitude of his assistants did not reflect his personality. It was puzzling, but Anji did not question it.
After exploring the entire place, only one room was locked to her using a special spell. That must be the actual research labs. Anji respected the privacy and decided to start chipping away at the huge mountain of chores by first clearing a space in the backyard where she would do her washing.
After shoving the other objects to a side, Anji found the biggest wooden tub she could find and pushed it outside where she would do the laundry. Then, she borrowed the writing materials from the messy house and wrote new talisman spells that would act as a temporary circuit for her washing machine.
Going outside, Anji slapped the new spell talisman on the huge tub and looked for some stones after activating the temperature and water spell to start filling the large tub. She needed some ashes, so she carefully gathered them from the fireplace. Thankfully, it had not been cleaned out in forever, and there was more soot than food there.
When she was finally back, the large tub was full of water. Anji dumped some ashes in the water and used the clean water to wash the dirty stones. After scrubbing the stones clean, she carefully placed them inside the tub and activated a new part of the spell, causing the stones inside to spin in a circular motion. Slowly, the water swirled into a small whirlpool. Anji smiled and quickly gathered all the nearby dirty sheets to put into her new washing machine.
After the machine started cleaning the clothes, Anji wandered around the outer court with a basket. To make her dryer, she needed many stones that could contain heat.
By the time Anji had collected enough stones, the first batch of clothes was already clean. However, Anji still did not have her dryer ready. Hence, the girl pulled the clothes out and drained the dirty water, rinsing the clothes and piling them in another dry tub before adding another pile of dirty clothes and throwing a new batch of ashes in the water.
Normally, Anji would use a large round wooden basket with a lid instead of a pot for the dryer. It was lighter and easier to turn. However, she could not find a large round wooden basket with a lid. Hence, the girl sat down to put her brain to work while resting her tired limbs.
Normally, she would put the clothes in the wooden basket to turn them while infusing the rocks with qi to heat them. When the rocks and clothes tumbled in the turning basket, they would dry quickly as if underneath the sun. Anji did not have much strength to hang clothes, which was the best method she had used until now. Not to mention, she had no idea if she had enough stamina to spin the basket until the enormous heap of clothes was washed. Surely, there had to be a better way.
Putting the stones down, Anji scanned the yard, recalling what she had seen. However, nothing else stood out to her. To remove water from the clothes, Anji had to apply heat and movement to ensure the clothes were evenly dried. Another method was to use strong winds to encourage evaporation. However, the combination of heat and air was most effective in evaporating water. She had tried drying it above a stove before, but there was a high chance that her clothes would burn or smell like smoke. freewēbnoveℓ.com
Then, Anji had an idea. If she could mimic a flameless and smoke-free stove, wouldn’t the clothes dry much faster? These small stones would not work. Anji needed a much flatter surface and something that would conduct heat that she could easily lay the clothes over.
Keeping that in mind, the small girl went searching around.
