Zoe Bell sat on the edge of the bed, her head lowered, until she saw a pair of feet appear in her line of sight. She looked up and suddenly realized, with a start, that William Hale was standing right in front of her.
“Bumped your knee?” William Hale sized her up.
“It’s nothing, just accidentally hit it.”
“Let me have a look.”
While speaking, William Hale had already bent down on one knee in front of her, took her left calf in his hand, rolled up her pant leg, and Zoe reached out to stop him but was blocked by him.
“This is the Hale Family’s old mansion,” William Hale said, his voice low as he lowered his head.
“But right now, it’s just the two of us.”
Even if you want to show affection, you should do it in front of others.
There’s no one else here.
“Be careful, the walls have ears.”
“…”
Zoe Bell pursed her lips, was the soundproofing of the Hale Family’s old mansion this bad?
William Hale had taken a cold shower again today, his fingers icy as they touched her bruised knee, the coolness was actually quite soothing.
But from her angle, she could clearly see his sharp side profile, droplets of water trailed down to his Adam’s apple, his collarbone, then rolled into deeper, more hidden depths…
She felt her eyes getting hot and dared not look closely.
“Does it hurt a lot?” William Hale looked up at her.
“It’s, it’s okay.”
“Then why is your face red?”
“Is it?”
“Why don’t you dare to look at me?” William was smart, of course, he noticed what she was avoiding.
“I’m not afraid to look at you,” Zoe Bell stubbornly retorted.
“Shy?”
“What age is it now? It’s not like I haven’t seen it before, especially when dancing. Male ballet dancers wear tight clothing and have better figures than you. I’ve seen too many…”
Just as Zoe Bell continued to be stubborn, William Hale suddenly stood up, bracing himself with both hands, trapping her between the bed and his body.
Zoe Bell’s gaze fell upon his bare upper body.
She couldn’t escape,
her eyes drifting downward, past his waist and abdomen, to even more scandalous regions.
Her face turned redder and redder,
until it seemed as if it might bleed.
“Tell me, how many more men with better figures than me have you seen?” William Hale’s voice was unhurried, but his body seemed to be inching closer and closer.
Until they were almost touching…
His strong presence began to envelop her, and Zoe Bell’s scalp tingled.
“What are you afraid of, in broad daylight? How could I possibly harm you?” As he spoke, William Hale straightened up, and Zoe Bell finally let out a long sigh of relief.
He understood he shouldn’t go too far.
He had to stop at the right moment.
Before William Hale went back into the bathroom, he glanced at her:
“I’ll take you to the hospital when we have a moment.”
“I’m really fine.” It was just a knock on the knee, which happened often when she danced.
“I’ll take you to have your legs checked,” William Hale said seriously, looking at her. “Do you want to have surgery? You’ve already built up a tolerance to painkillers, and receiving IV drips all the time isn’t a solution.”
Zoe Bell was taken aback, knowing the truth about her leg injury, and many things followed.
The surgery, she hadn’t truly considered.
After all, the surgery had a recovery period, and her condition had already been delayed for a few years; if the recovery didn’t go well, she could probably forget even being a dance teacher.
But her leg would hurt every time it rained, and it was getting worse.
Postponing was not a solution.
As Zoe Bell pondered about the surgery, William Hale closed the bathroom door and took out his phone to search for male ballet dancers’ costumes.
He knew roughly what male ballet dancers wore but had never looked at them closely.
Sometimes performances required them to be shirtless.
With a different mindset than before, now that he looked,
he was furious!
So she had danced with men like that before.

Inside the small hall, Old Sir Hale sat with a potted plant in front of him and various pruning tools on the table beside him. He waited expectantly, left and right, all morning without catching a glimpse of Zoe Bell.
Old Lady Hale was sitting to the side, having already dozed off.
“Haven’t the two kids gotten up yet?”
“It must be that rascal William Hale. What time is it and he’s still not up, not even embarrassed.”
“Enough of that, back in the day you also…”
Old Lady Hale didn’t finish her sentence, cleared her throat, and stood up shaking her rattan fan to go drink tea.
When Zoe Bell and William Hale appeared, the old lady invited her to join for tea, while Old Sir Hale gave his grandson a meaningful look, and the two entered the study.
The old master took out a box of Red Plum cigarettes from the drawer, a brand he had been fond of since his youth.
“Didn’t get a chance to chat with you last night,” Old Sir Hale looked at him seriously, “tell me, how did you con that girl into playing along with your act?”
“We are husband and wife.”
“Don’t try to fool me, I raised you single-handedly, even when you don’t speak, I know you’re up to no good!”
“Grandpa, be more elegant.” William Hale had already taken out a lighter and lit his grandfather’s cigarette.
“That girl has a sweet mouth, I’m afraid you can’t resist her.”
“Her mouth is sweet?”
William Hale nodded in agreement.

Old Sir Hale took two drags of his cigarette, “Marriage isn’t child’s play, being passionate alone won’t cut it.”
“I know.”
“She doesn’t seem like a scheming type to me.” The old master smoked and clicked his tongue, “Makes sense too, if she were manipulative, she wouldn’t have been fooled by you.”
“Grandpa, I didn’t fool her.”
“That line might work on the kids outside, but I’m afraid all your effort will end up being wasted.”
Old Sir Hale smoked and glanced at his grandson, “Have one.”
“I don’t smoke.”
“You quit?”
“Quitting smoking is not that easy.” William Hale chuckled lightly, “I just worry she might not like it, so I haven’t smoked much recently.”
“…”
He’s done for, definitely lovesick.
“Grandpa, after finishing the cigarette, remember to air out the smell, lest Grandma catches it and insists on sleeping in separate rooms again tonight.”
Old Sir Hale’s fingers tightened, squashing the cigarette butt out of shape.
“Take your wife and get out of here!”
“Are you sure? Then we’ll set off back to Greenland this afternoon?”
Old Sir Hale’s face turned green.
He was hard-mouthed but couldn’t bear seeing his grandson leave.
After eagerly waiting for his grandson to come home, he was about to take off again!
The old master took a fierce puff on his cigarette, “Get lost, they say a daughter is hard to keep at home, but I think you’re the one who’s hard to keep! Just like your little uncle, no good stuff!”
“Did my little uncle upset you again recently?”
“Aren’t you two cut from the same cloth? What he does, wouldn’t he tell you?”
“I’m married now, I can’t keep sharing pants with him.”
Old Sir Hale was exasperated; he felt he didn’t need any neck and shoulder massager, he needed a ventilator.

On the other side
Old Lady Hale invited Zoe Bell to drink tea, “Try this.”
“Hmm.” Zoe Bell held the teacup with both hands, not knowing much about tea, only finding it delicious, “The fragrance is just right, really nice.”
It had a natural scent of gardenia honey.
“This is Phoenix Single Tea, I think it’s quite good too, if you like it, take some to bring back to Greenland.”
The old lady had many tea-making tools, clearly an expert.
“I don’t know much about tea, it’s a waste to have me drink such good tea.”
“If you think it’s good, then it’s not a waste.” Old Lady Hale held her teacup and took a sip, “People outside say that our William is cold and difficult to get along with, that’s because they haven’t been in contact with him, they don’t understand him.”
“But I believe that as long as one spends time with him, they will see his good qualities.”
“People are like tea, they need careful tasting.”
“As a married couple, if both feel good about each other, then life can be long-lasting and smooth, don’t you think?”
Zoe Bell didn’t expect the old lady to be hinting at her.
“I am aware of his good qualities,” Zoe Bell said, not just to ingratiate herself.
Old Lady Hale could tell whether she was sincere or just being polite and dealing with her, and she smiled, “Knowing his good points, and with the fate you both share…”
“It should be cherished.”
Zoe Bell nodded repeatedly, and as they were drinking tea, accompanied by a knock on the door, William Hale appeared at the doorway, “Grandma, have you finished talking?”
“Just a few minutes in and you’re rushing us? Are you worried I might bully her?”
Old Lady Hale chuckled mischievously, deliberately sarcastic, “You better check carefully to see if your wife is missing a hair or a piece of flesh.”
