I had been watching my mate through the space in the ceiling for a long time. I haven’t gone to meet her because the instant I located the room she was in, I saw that she was quite busy.

I stopped being distracted and focused on my mate.

A bright smile appeared on her lips as she stared at the vial in her hand.

Her smile made my heart flutter and I had to place my hand on my chest. She was so beautiful.

My eyes widened. ’Is she referring to me?’. I wondered and had to believe that she was referring to me because there was no one else inside the research room other than me, she and the dead hybrid creature. And she couldn’t possibly be talking to the dead hybrid creature.

I had to come out of the ceiling through the ceiling’s access panel.

After jumping down from the ceiling, I dusted my clothes. My back was facing her. So when I finished dusting my clothes, I turned to her and asked, "For how long did you know I was in the room with you?".

"From the very second you arrived". She casually replied to me, causing me to become dumbstruck.

So, all this while she knew that I was on the ceiling but did nothing about it and made me remain on the ceiling for hours?

How cruel. How could she do this to her own mate?

I felt like scolding her and complaining, but I had to restrain myself. Because why the heck would I scold my mate?

Looking on the bright side, she didn’t look scared of me this time.

"I would never do that to you!". I panicked and got close to her.

But her left palm faced me, indicating that I shouldn’t get closer to her.

I did as she said and didn’t get any closer to her than I already did.

In front of her was a table which stood in between us.

"Do you want to fight me? Is that why you have been appearing to me lately?". My mate asked me, making me wonder, how could she think of something like that?

Wait. Is it because she thought I wanted to fight her, that she feared me before?

I was about to explain myself to her when her cell phone rang.

Her voice was composed, and, at the same time, strict and sweet. I mean, who would not fall for such a beautiful person?

"What?!". She exclaimed, making me become alarmed. "You are saying that it wasn’t the same demon? So you mean that there are other demons too, other than the one I fought with?".

The word ’demon’ brought back so many memories from the past.

The memories were vivid in my head as if they were currently happening again.

"Stay hidden here and don’t come out, Nikolai". My father’s rough voice softly said to me.

He made me hide in my mother’s large wardrobe because it had a secret hideout in it.

"Dad, please what is going on? I am scared". This word rang in my head and I felt a sharp pain in my head, making me hold my head and fall to the ground. The voice was mine.

"Hey, what’s wrong with you?". I heard a voice asking me, but I couldn’t reply to the voice.

Flashback {20 years ago}

I remained in the wardrobe’s hideout for up to ten minutes, before I began to hear agonizing cries outside. I grew terrified. I didn’t know what was happening outside, but thinking about my family, I came out of the wardrobe’s hideout and ran outside the mansion.
