Chapter 113 - 113

Next to the Bartfort family estate lay an old garden, full of tall trees, thick shrubs, and hidden paths. It was a place that seemed made for childhood games and hide-and-seek. Back when they were kids, Leon and his brothers often spent their days here, staging grand battles in the garden's green labyrinths.

But now, years later, a completely different scene was unfolding. At the center of the garden stood two girls — Olivia and Angelica — along with Leon and his brother Colin. They had all teamed up for a friendly water fight against Barcus, Finley, Nyx, and Jenna.

"This is what we'll be using to shoot each other," Angelica announced with a serious expression, holding up a bright water gun in one hand and a balloon filled with cold water in the other. "And don't go easy on the water!"

Behind her, Olivia was examining her new "weapon" with keen interest. A small smile tugged at her lips as she turned the water gun over in her hands, inspecting the details.

"Hmm... it's kinda cute," she murmured under her breath. But just then, her finger accidentally brushed the trigger — and with a hiss, a powerful stream of water shot out, striking Angelica squarely in the back.

"Eek! Cold! That's cold!" Angelica yelped, leaping from the unexpected chill, then frantically darted side to side, trying to shake the water off. A few seconds later, catching her breath, she turned back toward Olivia with narrowed eyes and a scowl.

Olivia quickly hid the water gun behind her back, avoiding eye contact like she was hoping to become invisible.

Angelica stepped forward slowly. Her voice dropped low and ominous:

"Li...vi...a..." she said, drawing out the name like it was a curse of vengeance.

"I-I'm sorry! I didn't mean to—" Olivia started to explain, but didn't even get to finish before she was hit dead-center in the chest by a sharp, icy blast of water.

"Nice shot," Leon thought with a smirk as he watched from a safe distance.

"Eek! Cold!" Olivia cried out, squeezing her eyes shut and clutching her arms to her chest, trying to warm herself.

Angelica tilted her head proudly and gave a smug little grin.

"Now we're even."

"Well then..." Angelica said, blowing theatrically on the barrel of her water gun as if smoke had just risen from it after a real shot. Mischief sparkled in her eyes, and the corners of her lips curled in triumph.

Colin, watching her dramatic display, felt his excitement about the water fight grow even more. He could barely stay still, tapping his foot impatiently as he waited for the opponents to show. The thirst for action was building by the second.

Then, he noticed something — Leon was standing completely defenseless, his eyes fixed on the antics of Angelica and Olivia. Colin realized the perfect opportunity had just presented itself, and there was no way he could let it slip by. He aimed... and fired.

A strong jet of water whistled through the air and slammed into Leon's back.

"Whoa!" Leon shouted, jumping from the surprise. He spun around, eyes scanning for the culprit, and when he spotted Colin grinning like a maniac, his expression turned deadly.

"You little..." Leon muttered through gritted teeth, grabbing his own water gun. And just like that, the chase began: Leon darted after Colin, shooting at him with sharp blasts of water while Colin dodged and weaved between the trees, laughing.

The whole garden turned into an improvised water arena. Laughter, screams, and splashes merged into a joyful chaos — until something happened that slightly changed the mood.

From around a bend in the path came Barcus and Nyx, walking slowly, clearly preparing for an ambush. Behind them, Finley followed, her face calm but tense. Though she kept a composed exterior, she kept glancing secretly at the water gun in her hand, clearly tempted to join the fun.

Trailing behind them was Jenna — her face wet with tears, sobbing with every step. Her pretty dress was already damp in places, and her hair had come slightly undone. She hadn't wanted to join the water fight at all. They'd practically forced her, and now she was choking on her own frustration, moving forward unwillingly, not wanting to get her clothes any wetter but unable to outright refuse.

"So..." Leon said, catching his breath as he stopped beside Colin. "You two head over there," he nodded toward the opposite pathway, "and Colin and I will stay here. We'll hit them from both sides. Set up an ambush."

Angelica instantly caught on to the plan. She nodded and grabbed Olivia's hand without wasting a moment:

"Come on! This way!"

The two of them dashed to the far side of the garden, hiding behind sprawling bushes and thick leaves. In that cover, they froze, perfectly still — like hunters lying in wait.

"Ready?" Angelica whispered.

Olivia gave a silent nod, gripping her water gun even tighter.

The trap was set. Now, they just had to wait...
