Mated To My Boyfriend's Dad-Chapter 255: I Hope You Can Forgive Me
Chapter 255: I Hope You Can Forgive Me
Kylo watched as his father’s eyes went from his face to the dagger in his hand repeatedly. His face was etched with disbelief, but surprisingly, Kylo didn’t notice any fear in him.
Gamma Rhett was still so calm, even in the face of death. Nah, he had to be scared of something. And today, Kylo vowed to push him to his limits until he found out what it was.
"Kylo...." Rhett spoke sternly, his tone carrying a threat. "You don’t know what you’re doing. Why don’t you put the dagger down so we can talk about whatever is bothering you... Like men."
Pfft... Like men?
Kylo chuckled dryly. "But father, this is already ’manly’ enough, don’t you think?"
Rhett shook his head with a look in his eyes that Kylo knew all too well. Disappointment.
"A man wouldn’t corner his father in his office with a weapon pointed at his face," Rhett spoke rather dismissively, placing both his hands on the table in front of him.
Kylo’s eyes twitched as his grip on the handle of the dagger tightened. He was so close to snapping and just plunging the dagger right through his father’s throat. But he held himself back... He wanted to understand something before watching his old man die.
"You wanna know what a real man wouldn’t do?" Kylo spoke through gritted teeth. "A real man wouldn’t betray his son’s trust by going behind his back and sleeping with his girlfriend!"
Yup, he couldn’t hold that in anymore.
He scoffed when he saw his father’s eyes widen in shock. Finally, something that made his ’calm demeanor’ falter. Finally, he got a reaction from the old man.
Gamma Rhett blinked awkwardly for a while, his gaze on Kylo unexplainable. But eventually, he sighed and adjusted his sitting position.
"Isleen was never meant to be your ’girlfriend’ in the first place, son. And besides, the situation was beyond any of our control." Rhett spoke calmly but then paused, his eyes lingering on Kylo like he was trying to study his reaction. But then he continued. "She’s my mate. We’re fated by the will of the moon goddess."
Once again, Kylo felt like charging at his father and plunging the dagger through him. Maybe into his mouth so his blood could choke out those flimsy excuses from his throat.
Argh, he was struggling. He was torn. But someone wasn’t going to leave this office alive... That’s for certain.
"She was still my girlfriend, damn it!" Kylo snarled, taking two steps closer to his father. "Or are you unable to comprehend that? Regardless of if she’s your... ’mate’, how could you do that to your own son? Like my relationship with her meant nothing?"
His father slowly raised his hands, his eyes never leaving his face or the dagger in his hand. "Is that really the reason why you’re here? Talk to me, Kylo... Why are you so angry at me?"
Kylo froze, his hands trembling a little. At that moment, his will almost wavered. He almost questioned if he was making the right decision.
However, he shook his head, before grabbing the dagger with both hands. He clenched the handle tightly as his eyes stung with tears. Tears that he’d kept hidden from his father for twenty-five years.
"I’m here for ALL of it, father. For everything you did and didn’t do for me. For letting me down for the last time when my mate died under your nose!" He spat, his tears almost breaking out.
But he’d be damned before he showed any sign of vulnerability to his father. He’d be damned before he let him see him at his weakest. ƒгeewebnovёl.com
Rhett blinked with confusion etched in his eyes. "Your mate? So you’ve found your mate?" He seemed genuinely puzzled.
What was he, deaf? Should he spell it out for him?
"I found my mate, father. But we only knew each other for a few hours. A few hours before she was taken away from me." Kylo bit his lips, as his heart lurched when he remembered Dew.
His head spun when he remembered how full of life she’d been. How she’d been his only source of hope after he found out about Isleen’s betrayal. But now... She was gone. Forever.
"You’re not making any sense, Kylo." Rhett sounded frustrated. "How was your mate taken away from you? And how is it my fault?"
Kylo couldn’t take it anymore. He charged forward, flinging a chair in his way away with a simple slap of his hand. The chair crashed on the wall to his right, causing Rhett to flinch a little in surprise.
"Dew! Her name was Dew, you incompetent bastard!" Kylo roared, placing both his hands on top of the desk. His claws began coming out, scraping on the wood of the desk. "And she died. Murdered under the watch of the pack soldiers that you command. An innocent girl died and you’re seated comfortably on your high chair doing nothing!"
Realization finally dawned on the Gamma’s face at that moment. He shifted into his chair, trying to keep more distance between himself and Kylo.
"Kylo, believe me, I understand how you’re feeling. I’ve lost a mate once too, remember?" He muttered dejectedly at the end, a hint of nostalgia in his voice.
Kylo tried controlling his breathing as he realized who his father was talking about. His mother.
But even though he’d lost a mate before, the feeling wasn’t the same. His mother had been an old woman who his father hadn’t gotten together with because of love. He’d gotten together with her because of duty. Because of his stupid duty and loyalty to the moon goddess.
And that ’loyalty’ will be his downfall today.
"You can never understand how I feel." Kylo managed to blurt out after shaking off the thoughts gnawing at his skull. "Never. What I do know is, you deserve to die and I’ll gladly help you do it."
Rhett drew in a deep breath, his eyes getting... Soft? For the first time in a long time, Kylo saw a hint of vulnerability in his father’s eyes. It was a shame that he was still going to kill him.
"I was told that one of the only ways to kill me was if someone of my own blood did it." Rhett smiled wryly. "So, if you want to kill me... Go ahead. If I’ve truly failed you as a father, as a protector, as... As a friend." He paused, his gaze lingering on Kylo’s eyes. "Then I’m sorry. I hope you can forgive me even as you’re about to take my life."
Kylo gritted his teeth. The tears he’d been struggling to keep in finally started flowing out. He tried hiding his face away from his father before he saw it, but it was too late.
Darn it!
"And I hope you can forgive me for what I’m about to do..." Rhett muttered suddenly, his voice trailing off.
Before Kylo knew what was happening, an invisible force gripped him, forcing him to stumble backward and drop the dagger. Soon after, he fell to his knees and realized what was happening at that moment.
Fey magic.
