Master of Deception System-Chapter 19: Hindsight
Chapter 19 - Hindsight
At the Zhonghai Train Station, in the Railway Public Security Bureau office, Liu Zhen had already calmed down. He was sitting on a bench in a corner, frowning, deep in thought.
In front of him, he had laid out all the contents of his backpack: a laptop, a tablet, a phone, spare clothes, and even a few packs of instant noodles and snacks. The acceptance letter, registration certificate, and even a copy of his ID were there, but the actual ID card was missing.
He clearly remembered that he had his ID card before he sat down. So why did it suddenly disappear when they were conducting the inspection?
Where could it have gone?
Liu Zhen was filled with bewilderment. He had excellent habits in his daily life, especially when it came to essential travel documents like his ID card. He always kept them in designated places, making him confident and prepared at all times.
He recalled that his train ticket and ID card were together, but now only the ID card was missing. Why?
An officer entered the room, placing a cup of water in front of Liu Zhen.
The officer said, "Liu Zhen, we contacted your parents and confirmed your identity. This is just a routine procedure. If your travel plans are affected, we can compensate you."
Liu Zhen wasn't paying full attention to the officer's words, as he already knew the outcome.
He shook his head absently, indicating that he was fine.
The officer had more to say, but seeing Liu Zhen's lack of response, he decided not to continue.
"If there's nothing else, you can return to the waiting room. Of course, you can stay here if you prefer."
Liu Zhen still didn't speak, but his brows furrowed even more.
He gathered all the items scattered on the floor back into his backpack, moving slowly.
Then he stood up and walked step by step towards the exit.
However, his mind was still pondering.
"When did I lose my ID card?"
"If it fell, both the ticket and ID card should have been lost together."
"Is there any special significance to my ID card for someone?"
With these thoughts, Liu Zhen suddenly stopped in his tracks.
"Liu Zhen?"
"What's wrong?"
The officer looked puzzled as he saw Liu Zhen come to a sudden halt.
Liu Zhen didn't respond. He just lowered his head, deep in thought. His brain was working rapidly!
"Special significance for someone?"
The moment this question came up, Liu Zhen's eyes slightly narrowed. He began to recall the scenes that had just happened.
The impromptu inspection...
Liu Yang?
Liu Yang used a temporary ID card?
Suddenly, Liu Zhen opened his eyes wide and turned to look at the officer. "Stop the K331 train to Jinling!"
"That guy just now was Li Xuan!!!"
Everything matched up!
Liu Zhen gritted his teeth. It was at this moment that he realized he had been manipulated – by Li Xuan!
Li Xuan was right in front of him, and he had missed this opportunity completely.
"What are you standing there for!?" Liu Zhen looked at the still dazed officer and urged, "If you don't have the authority, call your superior! If you let Li Xuan leave Zhonghai, no one will ever catch him again!"
The dazed officer, upon hearing Liu Zhen's words, seemed to snap out of it and shivered. He immediately rushed out of the Railway Public Security Bureau office.
...
In Liu Zhen's mind, scenes related to the "Liu Yang" from earlier appeared. In fact, there were already many suspicious points. However, Li Xuan skillfully diverted his thoughts with his words!
In just a few minutes during the inspection, "Liu Yang" suddenly appeared in front of him.
Actually, from the first moment Liu Zhen saw "Liu Yang," he had already noticed the resemblance to Li Xuan.
But when Li Xuan claimed to be "Liu Yang from Class 7 of Grade 12," Liu Zhen subconsciously overlapped the two images in his mind...
He had easily believed Li Xuan's nonsense!
Now, thinking back to the occasional glances "Liu Yang" gave during their chat, Liu Zhen felt even more humiliated!
He had sworn to capture Li Xuan and made him his imaginary arch-nemesis, but Li Xuan treated him like a joke!
He felt like a clown!
Just as Liu Zhen was feeling deeply aggrieved, the door opened.
The head of the Zhonghai Railway Station's Railway Public Security Bureau stepped in quickly, followed by the two officers who had just conducted the inspection on Liu Zhen.
As soon as he entered, he cut to the chase and asked, "Who did you say is Li Xuan?"
Liu Zhen glanced at the two officers who had just inspected him and then spoke, "The person who was with me during the inspection just now."
Upon hearing this, the officer who had previously let Li Xuan escape from Zhonghai Hotel immediately retorted, "Impossible! Li Xuan is slender, but that guy is clearly chubby."
Liu Zhen said, "We haven't seen any trace of Li Xuan for a whole month!"
"Can you guarantee that his physique hasn't changed during this month?"
"And he used a temporary ID card! Haven't you ever doubted this temporary ID card?"
"Don't waste time! If K331 leaves Zhonghai... Li Xuan will be completely untraceable!"
Upon hearing Liu Zhen's words, the officer's expression also froze. He suddenly thought of the moment when he had his doubts, and the clearly suggestive remark he heard.
Uh...
He widened his eyes, realizing that he had let Li Xuan slip away right from under his nose again!
Seeing his expression, how could the leader of the Railway Public Security Bureau not know what had happened?
He immediately took out his phone and dialed a number: "Jiang Ju, we have just discovered a suspicious person resembling Li Xuan."
"He's on the K331 train, heading to Jinling."
"Yes, we haven't alerted him yet... He probably hasn't realized..."
"Alright, alright, we will cooperate fully."
After conveying this information, he hung up the phone and put it down.
Liu Zhen looked at him, opened his mouth to speak, but in the end, he didn't say anything.
He knew that the railway couldn't forcefully stop a train that was already in motion just to apprehend one person.
Once Li Xuan left Zhonghai...
In the vast world, where wouldn't he be able to go?
...
For Jiang Jingtong, the current information was already heartening enough.
At least now they had a lead on Li Xuan's whereabouts!
He immediately made several consecutive phone calls.
However, the more he contacted, the worse his expression became.
Whether it was a coincidence or deliberate...
The situation on the K331 train was far from ordinary.
