Chapter 33: The whores in the castle_Part 2

"You’ve eaten enough, Isa. Let’s take a walk around the castle to digest it and make you familiar with the grounds," Rohan said with a humorless smile as he got up from his seat at the head of the table, where he had been watching her eat to the last limit until she could no longer breathe properly.

He would have stopped her from finishing everything had he not seen the slight mischievous glint in her eyes when she accepted attending the banquet as if to get back at him, knowing he did not want to go, and if she refused, the king would not force them to attend, as everything she said would be met by His fucking Royal Majesty after the agreement they had signed to keep her comfortable within Nightbrook.

This banquet might have been staged to welcome his wife, but he knew better than to believe that was the only purpose of it. Being the real heir to the throne of Nightbrook, the current king would find any little excuse to send him back to the asylum to get rid of him. And they knew the asylum was a place that slowly killed a man. If he wasn’t so strong-headed, he would have been long dead, he thought as he watched his bride.

Rohan liked to uncover different layers of a person, and though he knew his wife was somewhat meek and quiet, he could tell under that meekness lay a cunning woman who would challenge him had she not been raised and forced into being what she was now by her parents. Nobody had ever challenged him and walked away alive or with their limbs intact, but his little bunny seemed to have some hidden spirit of disobedience and so much planning going on in that head of hers that he wanted to know.

Did she think he wouldn’t see right through her? If only she knew what she was getting herself into by accepting to attend this banquet she would have thought twice.

Rohan watched as the bunny struggled to stand from her seat while Cordelia had gotten up already, eager to tag along with them.

When Belle clutched her stomach and held the table for support, Rohan smiled and held out his hand. "Here, let me help you," he said, but she turned and glared at his hand and then stood up straight, arranged her front dress, and brushed her fingers into her bangs to cover her forehead properly—something he noticed she did subconsciously, as people had made her believe her scar was hideous when, to him, he never even saw it when he looked at her face.

He knew how humans considered freckles a flaw in a woman, even most of the vampires did, and they used any means to get rid of them, and his wife had a great deal of them on her skin. But to him, they only enhanced her rare beauty. She had a dusting of them on her nose and cheeks, and when she turned red from embarrassment, the freckles seemed to darken on her flushed skin.

She had a small, long nose, large hazel eyes with long sandy-colored lashes, and a small, kissable mouth he could still remember vividly kissing in the carriage. She also had a cleft on her chin, and he could not wait for the day those erotic lips of hers would learn to do more than kiss. There were many things one could do with a woman’s mouth, and she would learn every one of them. By God, he would make her want him shamelessly by the time she had stayed with him for months, because she was not going anywhere. She was his, and he would keep her.

Realizing she had just glared at him when he offered her his hand, Rohan smirked. Now, that was what he thought—challenge and disobedience. Rohan thought with a sly smile as he parted his lips to speak again but was distracted by Rav’s voice in his head.

"My Lord, the council is here for the meeting, and Lord Edmond is demanding to see you immediately. Should I tell them you are not around or let them in?" asked the man telepathically, causing Rohan to sigh to himself. He had almost forgotten about that bastard Edmond, whom he’d fed from in his mansion last night and still planned to feed from this night until he had no more humans.

"Do I look like I am not around? Lead them to the study. I’ll be there in a second," he said, then blocked the link to turn to his wife and cousin waiting for him.

"Cordie, I have a meeting to attend. Would you be a kind darling and show my wife around the castle to digest her meal?" he asked with a sweet smile that didn’t reach his dark eyes and carried an underlying warning toward his cousin to be nice and treat his bunny kindly. He knew how she had a few loose screws in that little-to-no brain of hers when it came to mistreating humans and anyone below her. He had liked that about her, but he wouldn’t like it if it were directed at his belongings—especially his bunny.

Cordelia had known Rohan long enough to know that smile of his was evil, even though it appeared kind to anyone who didn’t know him. She gritted her teeth at the fact that he was warning her not to harm his human bride, but then she smiled and moved closer to the useless human, linked their arms together, and said to him,

"She is in good hands, cousin Rohan. I will show her around and bring her back in one piece. Shall we, Lady Dagon?" She said the "Lady Dagon" like it was forced out of her throat, but her smile was so innocent a naive person would fall for it.

Not Belle, though. The two creeped her out with how they behaved, but surprisingly, she always felt like her husband would not hurt her and felt a sense of security with him despite his creepy behaviors. But that couldn’t be said about the vampiress, who had so heartlessly beaten a girl for little or no mistake. Though Rohan was said to be mad and cruel, she had not yet witnessed his own cruelty but instead his dark amusement and sinful behaviors of last night...

"Good. I’ll see you in a while, sweetheart," she heard her husband say as he patted her head gently and then strode away from the hall, his long legs carrying him away fast. She followed him with her eyes until he was out of sight, and then she turned to the vampiress clutching her arm and smiling sweetly. Belle managed to smile back as they began to walk toward the front entrance of the castle, wishing Rohan had come with them as she was not that comfortable with this crazy vampiress.

Belle could hardly walk, and her corset felt too tight, as if hard metal was closing around her ribs and stomach. Breathing was difficult because she was full to the brim, her stomach uncomfortably stretched, causing her to burp softly.

And it was all because of that devil who had forced her to eat more than she had ever eaten in her life.

The food was all delicious, but there was a limit to everything, and she hit the limit after finishing the ham and toasts, only for him to push another plate filled with more food to her. He had watched her eat with so much difficulty and yet insisted she finish everything in front of her! Well, she had thought earlier that she had not witnessed his cruelty, but it seemed she had not counted his cruelty towards her last night and this morning. He had been cruel to her!

Jamie would never force her to eat that much; he would never cause her any discomfort. And remembering Jamie, she recalled the ring she wanted to retrieve from the yard outside her window. It seemed it was good that devil did not come out with them—if she could find where the window of her room was, she could easily get back her ring and hide it without his knowledge!

Belle beamed silently to herself as she finally realized they had walked out the front entrance and onto the yard of the castle. Cordelia released her and fell back in step.

Belle’s eyes took in her surroundings as she realized the castle grounds weren’t entirely as bad as they had looked yesterday evening when she first arrived. Then, fog had covered the grounds, and bats had flown overhead. Now, there was no fog, and the air carried the scent of wet earth as heavy clouds blanketed the sky, with a light breeze whisking past her face, making her hair fall forward to cover it. She raised her hand and pushed it back, tucking a few strands behind her ears as she continued to look around.

Though it still seemed well-isolated for a castle where someone was living, she thought it was less ominous. She could see the long iron gates of the castle in the distance, as its yard was so vast it could house a small town. And right in front of the entrance was a fancy carriage she realized belonged to the vampiress. Her limping slave walked to it, retrieved a wide-brimmed black hat, and passed Belle on the way to the vampiress, who had fallen back in step, causing Belle to turn to her.

"Don’t mess with my hair, fool!" Belle heard her yell at her slave, who had been following them and had gone to the fancy carriage and come back with the wide-brimmed black hat that was now being put on Cordelia’s head as if to protect her from the non-existent sun. The sky was gloomy, even more than the sky in Aragonia, and she wondered why the Vampiress thought she needed a hat.

It was even surprising that they used carriages when she had believed that they simply used their vampire strength to move to places.

Cordelia moved away from her filthy slave and walked to meet the human, who was regarding her with curiosity about the hat she wore. And because she wanted to win the human’s trust, she smiled and said,

"The sun is hiding in the clouds, and one never knows when it would flash out. I have to be extra careful with my skin." Eyeing the freckles on Belle’s face and neck, she said, "I have an extra hat in my carriage. I can give it to you if you need to protect your skin from the sun. Those things on the skin can be a bit disturbing, don’t you think?" She was referring to her freckles, and Belle flushed in embarrassment at the indirect insult, but she did not let it slide and smiled back.

"I don’t find them disturbing, Lady Cordelia. In fact, I quite like them. They remind me that my skin is exactly as it was meant to be," Belle said with a pleasant smile before adding with fake concern, "But you should worry about yourself. Perhaps a hat won’t be enough. What if the sun decides to be less forgiving one day? I’ve heard it can be rather unkind to your kind. Is it true that vampires burn under its gaze? We humans are quite curious about such things."

Belle noticed the Vampiress’s smile waver, but it did not fall as she adjusted her hat on her head and replied, "We protect ourselves from the sun because it burns our beautiful skin. It can be quite painful for days, but that does not mean we can’t walk in it. How did you get those things on your skin, by the way?" Cordelia asked as they began to walk around the castle grounds, with the slave and two of the human servants assigned to her following behind them. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

Cordelia had heard the human bride had flawless skin, but she couldn’t help but wonder how she got those freckles on her skin. Was the beauty standards in the human land different from theirs? She thought to herself. The sight of it disgusted her, not to mention the stupid human had thought she could insult her indirectly and get away with it.

"I was born with it," Belle replied, refusing to take offense at the question. She had long learned not to let people’s opinions of her freckles affect her. Still, she braced herself for another insult, but to her relief, the vampiress merely pulled a face of disgust before shifting her attention back to their walk.
