Magus Bloodlines.-Chapter 59: Preparation to Fight.
Chapter 59 - Preparation to Fight.
Gavin watched as Erick, sore and wounded from their fight shifted into his golden fur covered were-lion form. Gavin gritted his teeth as the were-lion launched into battle, killing many of the enemy soldiers. It seemed they were unable to keep up with his speed or reflexes as he moved through them, cutting them down.
Erza placed her hand on Gavin's shoulder to keep him from moving forward. She knew what her very stubborn mate was like. He wanted to join in the fight and she was not about to let him risk himself in the condition he was in. Helena and Jackson, both tense watched the situation unfold as Erick took the attention off of the ones in the infirmary. Professor Jane worked with the other staff members still inside to raise more stone barriers in front of the students thanks to the distraction that Erick was providing.
"Erick, fall back!" She called out to him as she prepared to shut the doorway once again. Erick, covered in sweat and panting with exertion didn't bother glancing back as he ducked another bullet that whipped overhead. He felt the air current rustle his golden fur as he barely avoided being shot. These guys were relentless in their assault. He was having to use everything he had to keep them off balance. He was constantly throwing out magical attacks in combination with his stone armor and physical strength. A number of bodies littered the floor of the hallway, evidence of his skills and dangerous lethality.
But, as skilled and powerful as Erick was, even he had limits to his mana, and he was dangerously close to his. He threw out his hand and a powerful swirl of wind magic begin forming in front of him. He spun it faster and faster like a powerful vortex in front of him. He grinned with delight as he threw the mini tornado into the midst of the enemies who screamed and panic as it pushed, pulled, and threw them every which way. The roar of the wind was deafening in the narrow hallway as the spell worked as a distraction.
Erick took the chance and retreated to the infirmary, his chest heaving and he reached out to brace himself against the nearby wall. Professor Jane hurried forward and summoned another wall of black metal to cover the doorway once again. She erected several more layers behind it to ensure they had more than just a few seconds for a reprieve.
Erick looked around the room and was secretly grateful that no one here was injured. He released his shifter form as he continued panting while he tried to catch his breath. The earlier fight with that wolf pushed him to the edge more than Erick was willing to admit. He gritted his teeth while he thought about their situation. He enjoyed harrassing the weak, pushing them to grow stronger, but he couldn't stand senseless killing. He didn't understand who this group was, or how they came to have a force so large to do this kind of damage.
"Does anyone know, who these fuckers are?" Erick asked between breaths as he stood up straight and walked over to join the wolf pack in the corner.
Jackson glanced at him wearily, placing himself between Erick and Erza protectively While Helena placed herself right in front of Erick, her eyes glowing bright red. "We have a suspicion on who they are," Helena said quietly, never taking her eyes off the were-lion.
Gavin looked at Erick with suspicion as he walked closer to their group. "You alright?" Gavin asked. He kept his voice neutral as he looked at the condition of the were-lion. He could say what he wanted, but Erick took a major risk going out there alone to draw the enemies attention.
Erick grunted as he heard Gavin's question. "I'm fine wolf boy," he said dismissively. He wasn't friends with this pack, and in fact he couldn't stand their band of merry happy men. Erick thought they were all weak, banding together like weaklings. "Are you going to do anything other than sit there?" Erick asked, frustration in his tone. "Where is that fearsome power you displayed earlier?"
Gavin laughed bitterly. "Trust me, I'd be tearing their throats out right now if I could actually move. As for where the fearsome power is that you're asking about, let's just say this is a side effect of the skill I used in our fight." Gavin said, his eyes narrowing at Erick.
"God, you're useless man," Erick replied as he crossed his arms over his chest. Why would anyone use a skill or ability that makes them as helpless as a newborn child. It was stupid, and a horrible decision in battle.
Explosions rang out against the wall as the group talked. "Yeah, trust me you're not telling me anything that my mate isn't. If I so much as try to move on my own, she threatens to beat me down," Gavin said with an annoyed sigh as he looked at Erza who glared at him with her eyes glowing yellow, tinged in red.
Erick cocked his head to the side in surprise. "You let your female boss you around?" he asked surprised. Where he came from, the females obeyed the males, not the other way around.
Erza turned and growled low in her throat. "Watch what you say, or you will find out just how strong a pack can be," Erza said in a low threatening voice. No one, no one dismisses her mate or threatens her pack.
"It's not me letting her boss me around Erick," Gavin replied with a sigh as he looked at Erza. His girl was ever protective of him, and he loved her all the more for it. "It's respect and being a team instead of going at things alone," Gavin informed him.
"As for your earlier question. Yes, I'm pretty sure I know who these guys are." Gavin said as he had caught a particular symbol on their uniforms when the battle first started.
Erza nodded as she thought about what she had seen so far, "Yeah, I think it's them again," she said as another explosion impacted the wall. The enemy was desperately trying to gain access to the infirmary. They didn't seem to want to give up.
"Well, do you want to share the information for the rest of the class?" Erick asked him, his patience growing thin. He hated being ignored or not being answered right away. This day had gone to hell and a handbasket quicker than he could have imagined.
Gavin looked at the were-lion in the eyes. "They call themselves the True Lords Army. They are a group of fanatical people that believe shifters are an insult against the god's and work on killing every shifter they come across. They were the ones that attacked us at the start of term," Gavin informed Erick.
Erick looked surprised to hear about them. "I've never heard of such a group," Erick said quietly as he thought about the known groups he did know of. How could such an extremist group be able to exist in today's time? How could they amass this many forces and equipment to launch an attack on a powerful school?
Gavin nodded, his face grim and determination set. "Trust me, It's them. I plan on exterminating every single one," he said, his voice dipping down into a low growl as his eyes began to glow brighter. The prolonged adrenaline pumping through his body, sense of death and danger all around them was setting his body into a feral capacity. His wolf was demanding to be unleashed and slaughter the one's responsible for killing his clan and kin.
"These guys also slaughtered my family when I was born. This is beyond personal," Gavin said, rage thick in his tone. It made Erza glance to him in concern. She knew he was in no shape to fight against them, but that wouldn't stop him when the time came. She bit her lip as she heard the resolve in his voice. He wouldn't stay back for much longer before he tried being the big dumb hero she loved.
The room shook as more explosions impacted against the stone wall. The enemy forces were coming closer. It wouldn't be long before they busted through the final barrier. Erick looked over to see the teachers in the infirmary didn't look exactly in peak form. It must have taken a lot of mana to raise those heavy metal barriers over and over to protect them. Sweat covered their brows and some looked pale from the effort it took to keep throwing up the magical walls.
"We don't have much time before they break through again," Erick said quietly as he looked around. He hadn't fully recovered yet, and he knew the others would be useless against this number of forces. If Kayla were here already, they would have a much better chance for survival. Her match hadn't started yet, so she was fully rested before all this began. Where in the seven hells was Kayla?
