Chapter 44 - alpha lions

Gavin was now beyond furious. It seemed people constantly wanted to fight against him. Personally, he would rather take a break from battles, fights and having to teach people he was one of the baddest around. He looked at the two newcomers. Their uniform was a dark green and black military-style set. It was obvious they were not from Allario academy. But, it didn't matter to Gavin who they were, or were they were from. The point is, they were attacking the students, his academy, and even as far as his mate. Now, he would settle things and settle them quickly.

He focused his inner manaflow and glared at the young man in front of him. Erza stepped up beside him. He took a risk and examined her briefly. She was panting heavily and looked pale in the face, like she was about to be sick. He frowned, concerned for her well-being when the man charged back in, energy crackling over his fist as if it was electrified.

Gavin jumped to the side, caught off guard when he checked on Erza. The man laughed as he threw out a sidekick and caught Gavin in the ribs, sending him flying with a strength no one would suspect from such a student.

"Gavin!" Erza cried out in shock and fear. She'd never seen anyone send him flying like that from a single, simple kick. That alone caused her great alarm as she focused on the woman who leaped forward and threw out several more punches, her fists covered in stone once more.

Gavin landed against a nearby tree with a grunt. The single kick had sent him flying fifteen or twenty feet away. Gavin felt warm liquid filling his mouth as he spat a glob of blood onto the ground. Judging by the impact, it felt like a few of his ribs were bruised, if not broken. That only gave fuel to his anger and rage. His eyes burned bright red as she growled low in his throat.

Veronica status report.  Gavin asked quickly as he struggled to catch his breath.

Level 12.

Hp. One hundred out of one hundred twenty.

Mana points. Eighty out of eighty.

Strength fifty out of fifty.

Speed forty-five.

Agility thirty-five

Stamina sixty.

Charm fifteen

Intimidate twenty.

Do you wish to go over available skills? Veronica asked him.

Gavin shook his head. He just wanted to see what his health and manapoints were at. That single kick had managed to take out twenty points of his health. Gavin would have to be quick and careful if he was to beat the punk down.

Gavin stepped forward. He was rolling his shoulders and glaring at the set of twins that caused all this trouble. "Not bad my dude. My turn now," Gavin said as he focused on his manaflow and shifted into his werewolf body. Black fur manifested over him and he let out a feral snarl.

Hunters howl activated. Gavin used one of his favorite skills. He wanted to test it out and see how strong-willed these two would be. He had a feeling that they wouldn't fall victim to its paralyzing and fearful effects.

He threw back his head and let loose the might howl. The sound filled the courtyard around them as dozens of the students screamed in fear and took off running. Erza, Jackson, Helena and the twins remained where they were. They gritted their teeth as the effects of the howl washed over them. With or without the hunters' howl skill activated, Gavin's werewolf form was still a terrifying sight in ferocity.

Upon seeing that the targets hadn't run away yet, Gavin ran forward at full speed. He was going to finish this immediately, then go check on Erza's condition. She still had a sickly pallor to her skin that he did not like. Gavin appeared in front of the black-haired boy and delivered a resounding uppercut to his jaw. His speed was beyond what the male could follow with his naked eye. Gavin's fist connected and sent the boy flying in the other direction. He tumbled head over feet, over and over until he smacked into the side of one of the buildings. The impact left a large spider crack pattern in the side of the concrete. The boy coughed up blood and glared at Gavin.

"Erick!" the woman called out. Gavin turned to face her next, intending to deliver the same type of mighty blow. He stopped, frozen in shock for a moment as he realized her eyes were glowing bright red. Something he had witnessed only on himself and his grandfather. But, judging by the scent these two gave off, he could tell they weren't werewolf species of shifters.

The woman snarled and threw her hands out, giant boulders of stone and rock went flying towards Gavin and Erza. Gavin easily dodged to the side, as did Erza. Helena and Jackson stepped to the back, away from the fighting, with the young girl still visibly shaken and upset against Jackson's chest. Helena stood ready to intervene and help the others should Gavin call for assistance.

Gavin walked forward slowly, keeping his eyes on the woman. "What species of shifter are you?" he asked quietly. His earlier anger was almost forgotten in the wake of this new development. He never expected to see someone with red in their eyes like him. Definitely not another student.

The woman growled low as she refused to answer his question. Instead, she lunged forward and delivered a fierce punch to Erza's stomach. Erza, distracted by her nausea, let her guard slip for a moment when the blow connected. She cried out in pain and went tumbling back.

That alone caused Gavin's fury to fully ignite and he raged forward. Using his heightened senses and speed, he ran towards the woman. How dare she injure his mate? This went beyond simple bullying. Now Gavin wanted blood, and he intended to rip this little twit of a girl's throat out. The speed of Gavin made it easy to reach the woman. Before she could move, Gavin stood behind her, large and foreboding as he gripped the back of her throat and lifted her into the air. Kayla's feet dangled uselessly in the air as she kicked and grabbed at Gavin's hand the best she could.

"That was a very serious mistake," Gavin snarled out as he leaned in close to her ear. His breath was scorching as he whispered to Kayla. "I was going to let you walk away. But now you have hurt my mate, and there is a high cost for that particular brand of stupidity," Gavin said as he held the struggling girl in his hand, tightening his grip.

She cried out, in fear and in pain at Gavin's words and actions. This was way beyond what she wanted to do this morning. How did things escalate so quickly? All they wanted to do was show these students that they were at a weaker academy and that Daedalus would be victorious in the tournament. Now this wolf was going to kill her so easily? Where does his strength come from? Kayla's mind was racing at a thousand miles an hour as she struggled to understand exactly what was going on and how to walk away alive.

Her brother, Erick, had managed to get back to his feet in time to see Gavin lift her up into the air by her throat. His eyes glowed bright red as he shifted into a beautiful, golden fur-covered werelion. He threw his head back in challenge and let lose a mighty roar. He was not going to let anyone hurt his sister. Not while he was still breathing. Erick charged forward, his speed comparable to Gavins as he tackled Gavin from the side and knocked him away from his sister.

Gavin snarled in surprise as he heard a mighty beast's roar. The sound of it set his own animal instincts on edge as he looked around for the source. To his shock, what appeared to be a golden werelion tackled him from the side, causing Gavin to break his hold on Kayla. Gavin and Erick rolled around on the ground, trading mighty blows back and forth. The sounds of the two wereanimal shifters was like a horrible nightmare as they each struggled for dominance, refusing to back down.

Erza managed to struggle to her feet as she watched the lion and wolf shifters going at it. She never expected to encounter another alpha species this openly and easily. She stood there, holding a hand over her stomach as she watched the battle. Even Kayla, saliva on her chin, watched on in utter horror as her brother and Gavin struggled for supremacy. Who would win, Erza thought to herself as she watched on with fascinated horror. She glanced at a soft growl and noticed that Helena was visibly shaking, her eyes glowed bright red as she watched. If Erza didn't know any better, the short werewolf was about to jump into the battle.

Erza limped over and put a hand on Helena's shoulder. She could feel the girl trembling against her, as if fighting back the urge to shift and join in the fight. Erza leaned down to whisper, "This is not your fight. You will only make things worse if you get involved." Erza had a feeling this fight was now beyond the earlier episode of bullying. The growls, howls and yelps hinted at something much older and primal in nature as the two powerful males battled for dominance.

"You mangy mutt, stay down already," Erick snarled out as he kept punching and trying to bite at Gavin. Gavin returned the blows and dodged the razor-sharp fangs of Erick as they rolled around on the ground.

"Shut up, stupid house cat. This is my academy. My territory," Gavin responded back. He would not lose to a dang lion. Not with his skills and power. It was time to skin this kitty cat. Gavin thought to himself as she struggled to get to his feet and jumped back, putting a few feet of distance between them.

Gavin stared at the lion in front of him. Both of them were panting and having difficulties trying to catch their breath. Gavin focused on his manaflow and ignited both his arms in magic. He extended the fire to cover his entire body, almost like a suit of flames that protected him. He increased the density and condensed his mana to cover his hands; claws of flame extended from his own razor-sharp claws. This was something new he had been wanting to try out, and this kitty made the perfect test dummy.

"Time to end this," Gavin snarled as he lunged forward once more, intending to slice the cat into ribbons. Right as both of them were about to collide again, a powerful shock wave broke through the area, sending both students flying backwards.

"What the heck?" Erick asked, stunned as he landed on his back. Standing in the center of their battle area was Professor Okeeba. He looked around and narrowed his eyes on Gavin.

"Boy, I told you never to use that armor in a unsanctioned fight," Professor Okeeba admonished Gavin as he noticed how intense the scuffle was becoming. Gavin was going all out against the newcomer, Okeeba noticed. That alone caught his attention as he knew the boy fairly well. Gavin didn't just resort to final measures unless he was being pushed hard by an opponent.

Professor Okeeba looked a the two newcomers and growled low at them. "All of you, enough with this crap. Students from Daedalus, report to your headmaster immediately for investigation and punishment. I will see to the students from Allario," Professor Okeeba's deep voice echoed through the clearing. His commanding words and actions left no arguing as Gavin instantly dropped his shift and bowed his head in respect to his teacher.

Erick and Kayla looked at each other and both nodded grimly at Professor Okeeba. Without another word, they both took off, heading in the opposite direction.

"Now, does someone want to explain what in the seven hells caused this kind of fight between students and before first period even started?" Professor Okeeba demanded as he looked at Gavin and Erza's battered and dirty clothes.
