Chapter 30 - The Chainsaw Maniac

Watching the spirited crowd, Sun Peng's eyes gleamed with satisfaction.

He had purposely devised this plan to distribute the loot, intending for these fools to charge ahead. He had no intention of leading the way himself.

The woman on the 14th floor was ruthless; those who led would surely suffer.

But no matter how fierce she was, a single pair of fists couldn't possibly stand against so many. Once she and these fools wore each other out, he would take the food with no effort at all.

He looked at the excited neighbors and sneered inwardly. It would be ideal if that crazy woman killed a few more of the looters.

Double the supplies? They'd need to survive to claim them.

Once the men were either dead or injured, all the supplies would be his. The remaining old, weak, women, and children had nothing to compete with him.

Qian Ying'er, standing in the crowd, noticed the faint smile on Sun Peng's face. Cautiously, she pulled Wei Wenbin aside and whispered, "Wei Wenbin, this uncle isn't up to any good."

The siblings had witnessed Annan's brutality firsthand. Wei Wenbin's arm was still recovering from the knife wound.

He nodded in agreement, "Let's stay at the back and wait to divvy up the supplies."

Qian Ying'er nodded. "Even the legs of a fly are meat. Once the food's divided, we'll sneak into the injured people's homes and take what we can."

The siblings made their way to the back of the group.

The crowd soon stormed out of 1302, marching confidently toward the 14th floor, as if a banquet awaited them just a few minutes away.

Meanwhile, Annan had already finished her hearty breakfast.

Pan-fried ham, lamb dumplings, shrimp porridge, and a slice of egg and milk baked toast.

A fusion of East and West, both nutritious and healthy—how could she guard her fortress on an empty stomach?

After breakfast, she changed into a comfortable training outfit, warmed up, and waited for the unwelcome neighbors to arrive.

The group reached the 14th floor, quickly prying open the stainless steel stairwell door, only to find a blast-proof armored door behind it.

"What kind of door is this? Looks pretty fancy."

"Who cares about fancy? Pry it open!"

Yesterday, they had pretended to be polite and asked to borrow food on the 15th floor. But now, after a full day of hunger, they didn't bother pretending. They were ready to force their way in.

After struggling for a while, they realized the lock wouldn't budge.

After all, not everyone had Liu Lao Er's impressive lock-picking skills.

Frustrated, someone shouted, "Forget prying, just smash it!"

Hammers and axes were soon brought into action, making loud clanging noises as they struck the door.

After a while, their hands were numb, but the door only bore a few scratches.

"This is no good, it's a blast-proof door. We can't open it."

After all their effort, they still hadn't seen the people inside.

At the back of the crowd, Qian Ying'er gently reminded, "If the door won't open, what about the wall?"

The leading men's eyes lit up. "Smart thinking, little sister!"

They had been so fixated on the door that they almost forgot the walls could be destroyed too.

No matter how sturdy the door was, surely the walls weren't made of steel?

The group, suddenly invigorated, raised their hammers and prepared to strike the wall.

Just then, after all the banging, the door unexpectedly opened from the inside.

A pair of long, slender legs and a perfectly sculpted waist appeared, and the figure of a young girl emerged.

A loud roar followed.

"Vroom—Vroom—"

Before the group could react, a spray of blood mist blinded them.

Annan stepped out from behind the door, holding a massive chainsaw.

The first two men were instantly shredded by her weapon, their bodies torn apart in an instant.

"Ahh! Ahhh!"

Those splattered with blood screamed, and the crowd quickly began to retreat in panic.

There stood the beautiful yet deadly young woman from 1402, wielding a rapidly spinning chainsaw, her pale face splattered with blood.

It was as if the goddess of death had descended.

The two men she had struck were now headless, or their shoulders hacked off, lying motionless on the floor.

"Chainsaw Maniac! Chainsaw Maniac!"

Someone screamed from the crowd.

The hallway was awash with red—the walls, floor, and people's faces were covered in blood. There were even splatters of skin and flesh.

The scene, reminiscent of a horror film, left everyone trembling.

A woman in her fifties was so frightened she wet herself, and her daughter, holding her up, tremblingly asked, "How can you kill people like this?"

A voice in the crowd chimed in, "Yeah, how can you just open the door and start killing?"

Annan sneered, "You guys came here to smash my door, did you greet me first?"

A man in a vest cautiously peered around the back and spoke, "Little girl, we just came to borrow some food, please don't get too worked up."

"Borrow?" Annan scoffed, "The way you smashed my door doesn't exactly scream 'borrowing.'"

Seeing she was still willing to speak, the man quickly tried to calm her down. "It was the younger ones who got impulsive. I apologize on their behalf. We're really starving and just wanted to borrow a bit of food."

Annan remained unmoved. "Why should I give you anything?"

The man awkwardly smiled, "We're neighbors, after all. We should help each other through tough times."

"Sorry, I'm not that charitable. You can leave now."

She had plenty of supplies in her storage, but why should she share them? She could help them for a moment, but could she feed them for a lifetime?

"Favor for a grain, grudge for a bushel." These were wolves that would never be satisfied. She'd be crazy to hand over her supplies.

At that moment, Qian Ying'er, who had been quietly hiding at the back, suddenly spoke out, "Annan, how could you be so heartless? I really misjudged you!"

Annan shot her a cold glance. "Don't try to guilt-trip me. I have no morals."

Then, with a smirk, she added, "You want to borrow food? Why stand so far away? Come closer and ask."

Qian Ying'er didn't dare to move.

She realized that Annan had no intention of giving anything away. If she approached, she'd end up like the two men lying on the floor.

She hid behind her cousin and tugged at his sleeve.

Wei Wenbin immediately shouted, "Don't believe her! She's trying to trick us, getting us one by one!"

Having lost patience after their back-and-forth, Annan finally spoke up:

"Enough chatter. I don't have any food. You can either leave now or leave your lives behind."

The crowd exchanged glances, but none of them left.

Were they going to wait to starve?

But they didn't dare approach Annan. The scene fell into an uncomfortable stalemate.

Annan looked down at the chainsaw in her hand, now slightly loose, and frowned, muttering, "This chainsaw isn't as fierce as a gas chainsaw."

With that, she stowed the chainsaw behind her and pulled out a gas chainsaw.

She had originally wanted to conserve fuel, but the chainsaw had been too sluggish earlier. Fortunately, after processing chickens, ducks, cows, and sheep these past few days, she had developed a keen understanding of bone and muscle structure, otherwise, the chain would have gotten stuck.

She revved the gas chainsaw. "Let's see how this one does."

With that, she pulled the cord, and the machine roared to life with an ear-splitting sound.

Annan's face remained expressionless. "Who wants to go first?"

The crowd all stepped back in unison—talking big was one thing, but when it came down to a fight, no one was eager to take the lead.
