Chapter 89: I’m Not Your Puppy

Though her voice was full of strength, and her calloused hands showed her ruggedness, she was unmistakably a woman.

“I missed you so much I nearly followed you to the afterlife, Baeksom! My precious little boy....”

“....”

Bewildered by the wailing, Sohwa swallowed nervously.

“Um... whoever Baeksom is, they may be someone else’s little puppy Anyway, I think I’m not the person who you’re looking for.

At her mumbling, the woman’s sobs abruptly stopped.

She lifted Sohwa up, her own tear-streaked face gazing intently at the fox.

“Baeksom, was that you speaking?”

“Look, I sympathize with your story, but I’m not Baeksom.”

“Oh, heavens! You really do speak now! You used to act just like a human, and now you can even talk, too!”

Beaming, the woman hugged Sohwa tighter, pressing her cheek against hers. Normally, Sohwa would’ve hissed and pulled away, but this time she was too stunned to move.

‘I’ve never met such a terrifying woman in my life....’

The woman was as formidable as she was massive.

She was as tall as Dohwi, with a body rippling with sinewy muscles.

Her hair was pure white, her face marred by a long scar, and her gaze was commanding.

She was, in short, Woongsik in a skirt and blouse.

“Excuse me. I... I....”

“Yes, Baeksom?”

Mustered up every bit of courage, Sohwa finally managed to speak.

“I’m... not Baeksom.”

“What did you say?”

The woman’s previously teary eyes grew sharp and menacing.

“If you’re not Baeksom, then what are you? Some trickster fox spirit who have come to deceive me?”

With a threatening look, her throat went dry.

All she’d been doing was digging in her front yard, and now she was faced with this sudden misfortune completely out of the blue!

“Answer me, or are you just going to stand there?”

“...Was my name Baeksom?”

Turning her gaze somewhere far off, Sohwa muttered with a creaky voice.

“I think I was called Som-something maybe... I can’t really remember....”

‘Ah, damn this world!’

It was an animal’s instinct to bow its head to those stronger than itself.

“Baeksom! It is you!”

Without a hint of her previous fierceness, the woman smothered Sohwa with kisses all over her body.

Her dual nature was uncanny.

Sighing, Sohwa looked away when suddenly,

“Baeksom, where... where is your... your...? Where is your penis???”

She lifted Sohwa up, her face turning ashen.

‘Baeksom’s’ penis, which was ‘supposed’ to be there, was now entirely missing.

At least that was what the gigantic mystery woman thought.

It was as though it had never even existed from the beginning.

“Where on earth did it go?”

“....” freewёbnoνel.com

“It fell off, didn’t it! I knew it would one day, and now it’s finally dropped off!”

So, Baeksom had been male.

“Where on earth could it have gone, hmm?”

“Ah, well... I think....”

Awkwardly scratching her head over the whereabouts of something that had never existed, Sohwa suddenly heard a loud voice booming from the gate.

“What kind of disrespect is this toward our Ma’am?”

“Woongsik!”

At the sight of her ally, Sohwa perked her drooping ears, turned her body, and wriggled free from the woman’s grasp.

Quickly slipping behind Woongsik, Sohwa scolded him.

“Where on earth have you been, Woongsik?! You’re too late!”

“I’m sorry, Ma’am. I went to pick some green jujubes for you, thinking you’d like them. They’ve ripened so nicely; they looked just perfect for your taste....”

“Alright, alright. Now, go on and chase that weird, rude woman out of our house! I was about to die out of embarrassment any moment!”

“Yes, Ma’am!”

By this time, Sohwa had transformed into a human.

She peeked out from behind Woongsik, her fine veil draped over her face, her gaze disconcerted.

“So, you’re not my Baeksom... You’re not.”

“Excuse me, but this is the residence of the Tiger Lord of this mountain and his lady. I’m not sure who you are, but you must apologize immediately to our Ma’am for the disrespect, or you’ll face serious consequences!”

Woongsik rolled up his sleeves and warned.

“...I apologize.”

The sorrowful woman finally bowed, apologizing.

“I am Beomhee from the Geum River. I apologize for any offense I caused upon meeting the Lady of the Tiger Lord for the first time.”

“Oh dear, bowing like that....”

Sohwa lowered her veil and waved her hands.

“Please, you don’t need to bow like that. I was only a bit startled. Is Baeksom the name of the puppy you’ve raised?”

“Yes. I rescued him from a stream and raised him for thirteen years, like my own child. His name, Baeksom, means ‘white cotton.’”

“You must have treasured him dearly... Um, is he... gone?”

“Yes... My little white furball... started weakening in the spring and... finally passed away.”

She choked up.

She couldn’t hold back her tears as she described her precious white puppy Baeksom, who had passed away that spring and looked so much like Sohwa, the silver fox.
