When I saw the numbers, I couldn't help but gulp in nervousness. Despite not meaning to. The armaments humanity has been creating got better and better at murdering shit. While I still needed over 200 rounds, none of the big guns would have any issue.

"Holy fuck."

Due to being open to the idea of IRIS manipulation, I made a new theory. Was the reason humans created bigger and bigger guns to deal with the demons? If what I learned about the cover-ups in history was true, were the Reapers really guiding humanity to war?

'People often wondered why the US never stopped going to war. Conspiracy theorists say it's for oil or gold, but what if it were all to develop better and better weapons?'

My mind then remembered the words Lily had said before.

"We are desperate John, IRIS is proof that no matter how hard the past civilizations tried they all failed to survive. Due to their efforts this era is the best time. Not only has games and movies spread the concept of fighting the undead. Japan even was able to turn reincarnation as a selling point for its fiction."

Back then, I didn't understand the implications of her words, nor did I catch a glimpse of the bubble I was in. The discussions earlier hammered the point home even more.

"Darling, Europe has many myths and religions not due to our wild imaginations. It was because we recorded what we saw to prepare future generations for the fights."

"What did you think, Limitless? Beings from Hellsgate came out and began slaughtering humans."

"Shujin, Asia did the same thing. Most of the horrible stories were actually disguised as tragedies. But the number one cause of such atrocities was something that made it out. And to protect the humans, we fabricated lies."

"Hmm. You Sirens seem to protect this wanker a lot. Limitless. In the earlier days, Reapers used humans way more to deal with escapees from Hellsgate. Are you aware of why Japan was nuked twice?"

"No, Robyn, they weren't. I actually freaked out when I put two and two together. The two world wars were massive cover-ups. They aimed to explain the catastrophic results of breached battlefronts. Both the Allies and the Axis were fighting the same thing."

"Yes, Mr. Code. They just fabricated a narrative and dressed one of the demons as a human. But the world almost ended once. It was due to a simultaneous assault from the Archdemons on almost every battlefront."

It made sense. If the Reapers failed, there was no longer any way to hide the truth from the humans. And if the humans weren't allowed to fight, they would simply die like grass. Even the stories in myth and religion always involved a storyline of going up against demons.

In every religion and culture, when a danger threatened the world. Heroes would rise to fight it. From adventurer parties in fantasy to the robots or space fleets in science fiction. The same theme appeared again and again.

I balled my hands into fists as I looked upon the beasts of war mankind had created. Who knew that they hid such a purpose in their histories? I felt like my theory had no basis, but somehow I grew convinced of it.

"But if that is the case, why do the Reapers still insist on keeping the humans unaware? If they have been fighting with us all this time, why bother keeping them in the dark?"

At that moment, I felt a fierce glare scorch my skin from above. When I looked up, I saw the blazing sun high in the sky. It was probably around noon. As we reached Zanele in the evening, we must have talked the entire night.

"Right, I am sure the answers will present themselves in the future."

I turned towards the tanks and remembered that these things still needed crews in them. I remember Bella created the [Aegis Division] to control corpses. But, as she was not here, it was probably our children who were driving them.

"Children, you are the ones controlling the bodies of the Aegis guys, right?"

[Yes, Father,] Alfonso answered.

"I see. Is it possible for you three to download your minds into a Reaper corpse like a terminal? That way you can become androids or something?"

[That sounds awesome, Father, but we can't right now. I will wait till we find a small female body so I can have you pet my head.]

[I find the idea foolish, Father. As long as the mainframes in Hell's Eden aren't destroyed, we will live forever. If we downloaded our source code into a local body, we would cease to exist if said body were destroyed.]

As always, Sabel acted like a clingy child while Henry shot my idea down on pure logic. Their personalities were getting more and more complex by the day. Still having the soulless fight with us made me feel hopeful.

'When humanity fights for its right to exist, or when hell breaks open, we are going to need all the help we can get.'

Shelving such complicated thoughts in my mind, I turned my eyes back to the demonkin. It kept silent and was no longer thrashing. Did it believe I would no longer beat it to death if it stayed still?

"Children, I wish to test all the weapons on the platforms we have. Help me. We will start with the biggest gun and work our way down."

[Yes, Father!] x3

A powerful breeze swept the area around me. The Agusta A129 Mangusta had repositioned to have a direct firing line to the demonkin. While I loved the appearance of the Apache better, in terms of firepower, the Mangusta was just as good.

[My lord, firing a single Hellfire missile. I will be aiming it at his lower leg. Two {Restore} Switchblade 300s will detonate on its head to heal him for the next strike.]

"Wonderful. Thank you, Exa. Please turn off the {Withstand} family. I want to feel the tremors."

[Understood. Missile away!]

A powerful whoosh echoed as a Hellfire missile raced toward the demonkin. The speed at which it flew was fucking terrifying. There was no way a tank could outrun such a thing. If a Hellfire flew, something died for sure.

"FUCK YEAH!" I shouted in excitement.

The AGM-114 Hellfire. A marvel of American engineering. Officially developed as the "Heliborne laser, fire-and-forget missile". As the name was too long, so they just called it "Hellfire," which became its name.

The Hellfire missile is a 100-pound, air-to-ground precision weapon. It is the main one used by the U.S. and many allied militaries. It was designed to be fired from helicopters at armored targets. It accomplishes its role with remarkable results.
