Keyboard Immortal-Chapter 2546: Suspect
Chapter 2546: Suspect
“Of course not!” Zu An was rendered speechless. “We're also investigating their abrupt deaths.”
“Abrupt deaths?” The man holding snakes frowned. “What do you mean?”
“They were still fine moments ago, but all of a sudden, all of them died,” Zu An explained.
“The Chang clan is filled with experts. Who has the strength to discreetly kill all of them at the same time?” the other man wielding a shield and an axe pointed out in a deep voice. He eyed the three of them and asked, “Who are you? What are you doing here?”
The Mermaid Queen knew it would be hard to clarify their true identities, so she said, “I am the Chang clan’s Saintess Chang’e. Today was the day I would marry my fiancé, so the Chang clan was more bustling than usual. But moments after we entered our consummation room, we sensed something amiss and rushed out to investigate, only to find that my clansmen had lost their lives.”
“Saintess Chang’e?” the man holding two snakes murmured contemplatively. “I have heard about you. Your fiancé is the Youqiong clan’s Yi...” He turned to Zu An and asked, “You are Yi?”
Zu An’s heart skipped a beat. He knows about Chang’e and Yi’s engagement. This will be tricky.
It would be tough to explain the underlying reasons, so he said, “The old chieftain has indeed officiated my marriage with Chang’e.”
The man wielding an axe and a shield scoffed, “That’s impossible. I have heard of Yi. He’s a rising star in the Shaman races, but you don’t have the slightest shaman blood in you.”
The Mermaid Queen anxiously clarified, “He’s indeed the Yi acknowledged by the old chieftain and the entire Chang clan. The reasons are complicated...”
The man holding the two snakes interjected, “Given how lovey-dovey you are, you two are obviously together. Speak! Did you plan to impersonate Yi to marry the Saintess, only for the Chang clan to find out about your ploy and for you to massacre them out of anger?”
By now, their other companions had also arrived at the town. They were nowhere as muscular as Kuafu and Xingtian, but their massive statures made it clear that they were from the Shaman races. They surrounded Zu An and the others and focused their auras on them.
Zu An sneered, “The first thing you did upon arriving here is to accuse me without evidence. Now that I think about it, you suddenly appeared here while we were investigating the Chang clan’s massacre. That makes you people suspicious too!”
The snake-holding Kuafu harrumphed. “The Chang clan’s chieftain invited us to witness the newlyweds’ marriage ceremony, but we faced some issues on our way here and were delayed by several days. That’s why we only arrived now.”
The axe and shield-wielding Xingtian nodded.
Zu An asked, “Where’s your evidence?”
The two giants were at a loss for words. Kuafu raged, “What evidence can I offer for that?!”
You have successfully trolled Kuafu for +114... +114... +114...
Zu An nodded. I didn’t hear wrong. This is Kuafu, and the other one is Xingtian. Knowing that they were dealing with two mythological powerhouses, he felt troubled.
Xingtian said, “We’re on close terms with the Chang clan’s chieftain; why would we bother leaving any evidence? Besides, the chieftain relayed the message to us using his skill... Hold on! We're the ones asking questions here, so why are you questioning us now?”
Sensing the hostile gazes from all around, Zu An asked, “Can you ask your companions to back down first? There’s something confidential I need to discuss with you.”
Xingtian and Kuafu exchanged looks before gesturing for their companions to step away. Then, they turned to Zu An and said, “Hurry up and say your piece. I advise you not to try anything. Even if it’s just us, you won’t be able to escape.” As powerhouses of the Shaman races, they weren’t worried about anything going awry.
Zu An spent a moment in thought. Since the Chang clan’s chieftain invited them, they're likely friends with the Chang clan. As powerful as they are, given their huge physiques, I doubt they could massacre the Chang clan without me noticing.
So, Zu An told them about the Chang clan’s chieftain’s plan to have him impersonate Yi and marry Chang’e to prevent the ancient prophecy from being made impossible. He spoke with a controlled cadence with clear logic, so it didn’t take long before the duo understood what he was saying.
“What? The real Yi is dead?”
“The Chang clan has such a prophecy?”
Kuafu and Xingtian were astounded.
“Who killed Yi?” Xingtian asked.
Zu An shook his head. “I wanted to ask the old chieftain, but he insisted on only telling me after the ceremony. I didn’t expect such a mishap to happen in the meantime.” He had a guess, but he had no evidence, so he didn’t dare to run his mouth.
“You’re saying that the culprit might have killed them to silence them?” Kuafu stroked his lower jaw, allowing the snake he was holding to coil intimately around his neck.
Looking at that, the Mermaid Queen had goosebumps.
“That could be possible.” Zu An reserved his skepticism about that, as he hadn’t sensed the same unique energy present where Yi was killed.
“Why did the culprit spare you?” Kuafu’s suspicion still wasn’t dispelled.
“I don’t know.” Zu An frowned. “At this rate, if we continue dawdling here, the true culprit might escape.”
“You don’t have to worry about that.” Xingtian harrumphed. “I scanned the vicinity, and there are no living beings in the area except for us.”
“So, you still suspect that we’re the culprits?” The Mermaid Queen frowned.
“The two of you were in the consummation room. What about her? Where was she?” Kuafu pointed to the quiet Yumen Beiqing.
Yumen Beiqing eyed him coldly, not bothering to answer the question.
The Mermaid Queen anxiously spoke up. “She was with us!”
“With you?” Kuafu and Xingtian were stunned. Their gazes went back and forth among the three of them. He brought another woman into the consummation room? Both the bride and this woman are ravishing beauties, and yet they agreed to such an arrangement?
They looked at Zu An in awe.
Yumen Beiqing harrumphed. “Drop those filthy thoughts! I was strolling outside the town!”
“Strolling? Alone?” Kuafu and Xingtian’s expression turned vigilant once more.
“Of course I was alone!” Yumen Beiqing stood upright as if she wasn't afraid of causing any misunderstandings.
Kuafu and Xingtian exchanged looks. Looking at each other, they verified their conjecture. This woman isn’t as simple as she looks. She has a power that makes us uncomfortable.
“You are the biggest suspect! Come with us!”
The green snake on Kuafu’s right hand shot toward Yumen Beiqing and coiled around her body.
