Chapter 824 -824: Calamity Book Lost

The horrors of the Immeasurable Kalpa are well-known to those with a bit of insight.

Take, for example, the Dragon and Phoenix Calamity, which led to the near extinction of the Dragon Clan, Phoenix Clan, and Qilin Clan, causing them to exit the stage as the protagonists of the Primordial Continent.

The same goes for the War of Witches and Demons, leading to the fall of both the Witch Clan and the Demon Clan.

Although the Demon Clan can never be truly extinct due to their existence mechanism, the new protagonists—humans—are in direct opposition to them.

The survival of the Demon Clan is thus quite bleak.

However, in all Immeasurable Kalpas, the initial stages of the calamity are not particularly severe.

Generally, it is in the mid-to-late stages that the calamity fully manifests as a killing calamity between heaven and earth!

The Dragon, Phoenix, and Qilin Clans were nearly wiped out in the final great battle.

The Witch and Demon Clans also fell in the final, catastrophic battle, causing heaven to collapse and earth to shatter.

The Investiture of the Gods War also reached its peak when even the Saints took to the field…

The Calamity of the Journey to the West has been ongoing for more than five years now. During this calamity, Manjushri and Samantabhadra Bodhisattva have perished!

Perhaps, to the entire world, their deaths are just the fall of two Great Luo Golden Immortals, not particularly shocking news.

But for the Calamity of the Journey to the West, the fall of these two Great Luo Golden Immortal-level powerhouses seems to signal that the calamity has entered the second half.

The subsequent killing calamity will only become more terrifying.

East, Shengshenzhou Continent, Eastern Temple!

Maitreya Buddha sat quietly on his lotus throne, a troubled expression on his face.

In front of Maitreya Buddha, many disciples stood respectfully, heads bowed.

“Alas, have Manjushri and Samantabhadra Bodhisattva fallen? This Calamity of the Journey to the West is revealing its dreadful side!” Maitreya Buddha sighed deeply, shaking his head as he spoke.

In his long sigh, Maitreya Buddha seemed to recall something, his expression growing more troubled: “I remember Tathagata once said that there is a Calamity Book concerning the Calamity of the Journey to the West, in which the 81 tribulations along the western journey would be automatically recorded, but…”

At this point, Maitreya Buddha’s heart grew more troubled.

Since he was killed and had his memories wiped clean by the waters of the Soul-Cleansing Pool, Maitreya Buddha could hardly remember anything.

Although he gained much enlightenment in the Void Realm from a Sage Sect Master, his past memories were completely lost and could never be retrieved.

The Calamity Book!

It is naturally very important for the Calamity of the Journey to the West.

After all, the 81 tribulations along the journey are fixed, much like the importance of the Investiture of the Gods in the previous great calamity.

However, after his resurrection, Maitreya Buddha searched everywhere but could not find the whereabouts of the Calamity Book.

“Did I hide it myself and now can’t remember where, or was it taken by someone else when I was killed?” Maitreya Buddha mused privately.

It could be either?

If he had hidden it and then forgot where, that would be easier. It might eventually resurface by chance?

After all, things stored away often come to light under fortuitous circumstances, right?

But if it was taken by someone when he was killed, that would be a real problem!

Without the Calamity Book, coordinating the Journey to the West would be impossible, as he wouldn’t know how many of the 81 tribulations had been passed.

“What a bother…” Thinking about the Calamity Book, Maitreya Buddha felt deeply troubled.

He immediately ordered the disciples of Eastern Temple to search carefully and ensure they find the Calamity Book.

At this point, all he could do was pray that the Calamity Book was not taken by the killer.

Peacock Valley, thanks to Jiang Liu’s intervention and the Golden Hoop controlling the Scorpion Demon’s actions, the battle between the Scorpion Demon and the Peacock Princess ended.

Though grudgingly, the Scorpion Demon had to admit the strength the Peacock Princess showed was formidable.

“Princess…”

With the Golden Hoop controlling the Scorpion Demon, Jiang Liu turned his gaze to the Peacock Princess. “I apologize for the recent disturbances. The journey west for scriptures cannot be delayed, and with the three demons of Lion Camel Ridge subdued, I must continue the journey west!”

“Holy Monk, must you leave now?” The Peacock Princess, reluctant to part, looked at Jiang Liu and said.

“Yes, all good things must come to an end,” Jiang Liu said with a nod.

Beside them, the Scorpion Demon, controlled by the Golden Hoop, stopped struggling when she heard Jiang Liu’s intention to leave Peacock Valley.

Would the Sect Master leave? If so, that’s good!

It seems the Sect Master still cares for her?

She thought her disturbance prompted the Sect Master to consider her feelings and not stay longer?

Thus, she might still have a chance.

Of course, on the journey west, she must be vigilant to ensure no one else takes advantage of the Sect Master under her watch!

She regretted deeply that the King of the Women’s Kingdom had once taken advantage; she rued it to this day!

Worse, the king bore the Sect Master’s child! This made it hard for her to exact revenge!

To the Peacock Princess, Jiang Liu’s departure was saddening.

However, the situation at Lion Camel Ridge was resolved, and there was no reason for Jiang Liu to stay. No point in lingering.

Determined to leave, the Peacock Princess couldn’t force him to stay.

Unfulfilled love and reluctant departure!

One reluctant, one resolute to leave.

After a brief conversation and seeing Jiang Liu’s determination, the Peacock Princess bid farewell.

“Alright then, let’s go!”

After bidding a formal farewell to the Peacock Princess, Jiang Liu spoke, calling Sun Wukong and the team to set off.

With the Journey to the West team packed up, they left Peacock Valley.

Jiang Liu rode atop the White Dragon Horse, with Sun Wukong and the three disciples by his side.

Under the Golden Hoop’s control, the Scorpion Demon also left Peacock Valley with the team.

“Sigh…”

At the valley’s entrance, the Peacock Princess watched Jiang Liu and the others depart, her gaze as wistful as a wife watching her husband leave for distant lands.

As Jiang Liu and the others left, she turned her gaze to the Scorpion Demon by Jiang Liu’s side, her eyes growing cold.

“Hmph, if not for her, the Holy Monk wouldn’t leave!” She thought bitterly, blaming the Scorpion Demon for Jiang Liu’s departure.

After all, before the Scorpion Demon appeared, the Holy Monk had not mentioned leaving.

Thinking the Scorpion Demon caused Jiang Liu’s departure, the Peacock Princess harbored ill feelings towards her.

But she was also puzzled.

What was the relationship between the Scorpion Demon and the Holy Monk!?

The Holy Monk’s use of a Dharma Treasure to control her suggested it was a subduing relationship.

But why subordinate a female demon at the Great Luo Golden Immortal level!?

More puzzling, the Holy Monk left Peacock Valley for her!? The Scorpion Demon’s attitude suggested she saw herself as the Holy Monk’s woman.

Could it be? Is it not baseless?

Unconvinced, the Peacock Princess was troubled!

Due to Princess Gaoyang, the Holy Monk rejected her. She could understand.

After all, his feelings for Princess Gaoyang were known across the three realms.

But if the Scorpion Demon’s claims were true, why accept the Scorpion Demon and reject her?

Was a Peacock Princess inferior to a Scorpion Demon!?

Peacocks are proud by nature.

Such thoughts were unacceptable to the Peacock Princess!

Unaware of the Peacock Princess’s thoughts, the team continued west after leaving Peacock Valley.

Releasing the Scorpion Demon from control, she stayed close to Jiang Liu.

“Sect Master! Clearly, you still care for me! I’m very happy!” The Scorpion Demon exclaimed, beaming at Jiang Liu.

“Huh?” Jiang Liu looked at her, puzzled, face full of confusion.

“Isn’t it so? I can tell!”

Walking alongside the White Dragon Horse, the Scorpion Demon lifted her head to gaze at Jiang Liu, her beautiful face beamed up at him. “Sect Master, you say you don’t like me!”

“What? What are you talking about!?” Jiang Liu, puzzled by her assertion, looked more bewildered.

He was considering sending her back to Flame Cloud Entertainment City so he could visit the Netherworld Blood Sea and consult Ancestor Minghe about destiny.

Drip, drip, drip!

Before the Scorpion Demon could speak, a message alert from his contact list rang.

Opening the list, Jiang Liu saw a message from Yuanling, who hadn’t sent one in a long time.

Jiang Liu glanced at the message, which immediately appeared.

“Holy Monk, Maitreya Buddha has ordered everyone at Eastern Temple to search for the Calamity Book as it’s missing. Is this news valuable?”

“Eh?” Jiang Liu’s eyes brightened.

Maitreya Buddha lost the Calamity Book!?

Given the chance, retrieving the Calamity Book for himself would be extremely beneficial!
