After saying goodbye to Anna and Nolan, Brain left for his next destination. freeωebnovēl.c૦m

He was going east of the empire this time, near the outskirts and one of the less frequented areas of the empire.

While he wasn't carrying anything special on him, his clothes were all artifacts that Eon had enchanted himself.

He wanted him to have them when he went out by himself. Along with these enchanted clothes, the Storage artifacts that he carried with him were all top of their class as well.

Nolan's brother, Sir Elkan, his brother-in-law had gifted him a special storage device with many other functions as well so he was carrying that with him.

His familiar, Taika, was also going with him this time. Anna wasn't going to see both of them but she knew work was important as well.

She parted ways with the two of them with a smile on her face and even told them she would be much stronger by the time they were back so the two of them were looking forward to that.

To not attract much attention, Brain was once again wearing the unique mask artifact that he used to wear in his older days.

He was not wearing any disguise artifacts. His face was attractive but despite being a noble of the empire, he wasn't as well known as he was as an adventurer.

And since he was going to be just an adventurer till he reached his destination, he was going to have this mask on.

"Hmm… seems like this is the place." going all the way to the eastern end on foot was not logical so he had decided to join a caravan.

Nolan had arranged for it as well so a caravan was going from the capital to the eastern end of the empire, to a certain trade city where the goods would be distributed.

He was standing in the city's southern gate from where the caravan was going to depart. As soon as he had arrived in his location, the ever-crowded square, he was greeted by the many merchants who wanted the protection of strong adventurers.

"Are you looking for a job, sir?"

"Hey! You! Will you join us?!"

"There! Seems like you're a swordsman! Ha! Just what we needed!"

There were many adventurers in the area. There were many merchants departing from the capital as well. And many of them did not want to pay the association any fees so they were recruiting the people who were willing to join them without an official contract.

These kinds of unofficial requests were also more profitable for the adventurers as well so they looked for these kinds of requests more.

There was no shortage of merchants looking for strong individuals either so as long as one looked strong enough or was a high enough ranking adventurer, they would recruit them with the promise of a lucrative reward.

'Seems like they are the ones.' The ones that Brain was going to join today were also a group affiliated with her trading company.

They did not know about Brain though, so he was going there undercover.

The merchant that was leading one of the largest caravans in the area was also unaware of him, so Brain simply approached them silently.

"Send the two at the back. There should be three on each side…" The merchant leading them was a young woman in her early twenties.

She seemed like a young associate who had been learning the tricks and secrets of the trade from a young age.

There was a fire in her eyes that Brain recognized very well. Nolan also used to have that kind of fire, a more ambitious one, in their younger days.

"Hmm? You?" She noticed him quickly and Brain also took out his official letter to show her.

Nolan had prepared this for him as well. He did not have to reveal anything about him as long as he had this letter.

They were directly issued by the guild the lady was working for, so as soon as she saw this, she knew this person was hired by the guild directly.

"Oh, you're here. I got the word someone from the guild would be joining us as well. Good. What are you? A swordsman? Shield wielder?" She did not suspect him. There weren't many who would forge a joining letter from a guild like theirs in the first place.

-Ooooooooong!

Brian did not answer her question verbally. Since he had a good build that was visible even with his clothes and cloke, he simply conjured some winds and revealed that he was a mage.

"Hmm? Wow… that's unexpected."

The lady was surprised to see that someone as well-built as him would be a mage. But, that also reassured her.

"People hired by the guild surely are useful. Nice." She asked him what level of magic he could use, but instead of telling the truth, this time, Brian raised four fingers, surprising her even more.

"Wow. A (tier-4) mage? Isn't that great?" The lady believed that Brain would have good enough physical capabilities along with (tier-4) wind magic.

He did not reveal the fact that he was a tri-attribute mage either but he knew revealing too much would simply be disadvantageous for him.

If the word gets out that he was a tri-attribute (tier-8) mage, everyone in the area would make it difficult for them to get out of there, delaying his arrival at the destination.

"You can stay at the front with the frontline teams. Please inform me directly if you sense any dangers as well. Since you're a mage, you should have a good sense for the monsters, right?"

He nodded at her words and joined the people that were at the front of the caravan.

The Lady incharge informed the people directly so no one messed with him. Besides, most of them were people who were hired on the spot like the rest of the adventurers.

Some were experienced, while some didn't have much experience with things like these.

Many of them were much younger compared to him as well so he knew he would have to look after them.

"WE WILL DEPART THEN!"

She was a simple merchant with good intuition. She was neither a mage nor someone who wielded weapons.

Still, she was at the very front of the caravan. There were weapon wielders to the sides of her. There were mages and healers in the middle, and then there were shield wielders at the back.

The caravan was strong. Not the strongest around but strong enough to be attractive among the many that were present there.

When they departed the city, they were envied by many who did not get to join them. The competition was fierce so there was only a limited position.

They hoped for better luck next time as they saw them from the city gates and continued their search for the job…

They still needed money to fill their stomachs and to feed their families so a job was needed.

On the other hand, after departing the city, only half a day had passed when the caravan entered the first hunting ground that Brian knew very well.

"Miss, beast-type creatures will start appearing from this point on." they weren't in sight, however he knew this was their territory. He had eradicated them many times, but the reason this place was called a 'hunting ground' was exactly because of their periodic respawn.

Brian wanted to warn the caravan leader beforehand, but when he spoke up for the first time, a surprised expression appeared on the caravan leader's face.

"Oh, you have a deep voice. I did think you were older, but it seems like you are much older than I thought." She found his voice to be somewhat charming as well.

Brian, on the other hand, wasn't affected by her words. She was still young and he was a father of two already. He knew he was getting old as he approached his late forties. But that wasn't important right now.

"They're here. They'll attack from the left." He was already detecting the movements of the creatures through his Mana senses.

The caravan leader did not understand what he was talking about since no other mage had said anything but she still believed him.

"If that's the case, inform the others to prepare for battle. And if you want to move by yourself, that's fine as well.

You're responsible for your own share of haul after all."

The guild did not recruit just anyone to be the guard so she wanted to see the skills of this interesting person.

He was wearing a mask so it made him seem pretty unique as well, attracting the senses of a merchant.

"It will be faster to take care of them by myself then."

Brian asked the merchant leader to stop the Caravan and requested that no one from their group move for the time being.

They were quick on their feet so they were approaching quickly.

The area was famous for their (Orange) and (Yellow) rank beast type creatures, beings that hunted in groups and were pretty strong.

A normal <C> rank adventurer could deal with them pretty easily but they still needed a group to take care of their packs.

However, when a group of creatures were present before the Bloodthirsty crazy mage, there was only one outcome that awaited them.

And, in no circumstances this outcome contained their survival.

"What do they mean we have to stop?"

"Just who is he that we have to wait and just watch?! Is this a joke or something?"

"If we don't do anything we don't get anything! This has to be a joke!"

The others at the party were stunned to hear the instructions.

However, as much as they were upset at that moment, the moment Brian conjured his spells and aimed at the pack of beasts, every single one of them including the merchant leader fell silent…

They ended up witnessing a scene that they had only ever heard stories of.

Something that simply seemed unbelievable even though they were seeing it live in front of their eyes.
