Chapter 114 - Mage Crafting
From my time table Viree should be at the outpost now. Which left me sleep another night. This time though instead of entering Viree's dreamscape. I was in mine, everything was normal I had managed to unlock the skill tree needlework. It took me some effort, but I could see the skill tree's use already.
I could only invest one skill point, but that was fine. This was a skill I could power level with some work. One skill I set my sights on was Arcane Weaving. The ability to use enchanted fabrics to add new enchantments to something that has been enchanted before. I could see using it to interlock incompatible enchantments or adding an enchantment that would normally not be useful on the object.
I dismissed the future power level I would need to do and stared at the giant wall of spells. With all the spells I had picked up would be here for a while hopefully. Though I had no idea if my dream mana pool was increased along with my normal mana pool. I had absorbed a ton of magic using the Magnus items.
I rubbed my chin in some though and decided to start with creating some new passive effects. Alteration magic was the most suitable for this. I selected the obvious choices, Water breathing, Blood Rage, Dragonhide, and Resist Elements.
Water breathing was turned into exactly that. Blood rage was more interesting. The spell turned health lost into increase attack power. The resulted passive effect was called Bloodline. It gave a nebulous effect with number percent or base amount. The effect itself gave increased power based on influence on others, while increasing the sway you have over those you already have influence over.
I wondered how the effect changed so drastically, but looking at the next I suppose it made some sense. Dragonhide was turned into a passive effected called Fragment of Akatosh. The effect gave a 3% increase to my lifespan, physical durability and prowess. I guess it would be rather overpowered if I received the straight armor bonus like Flesh of Oak did. The last passive effect was the same as water-breathing, giving me a constant resistance rather than one I had to cast.
This made me think though and I selected a few more spells to convert. Shadowblend, Captivate, Vanish, Shed Scales, Psionic Ward, Splendor, Radiate Energy, Stendarr's Aura, Shield of Daybreak and finally Circle of Protection.
Selecting all these was to test how much more I could do. Sure enough every single one of them was converted. Shadowblend turned into Stealth in shadows, giving 15% reduced detection while in shadows. Captivate turned into Prince Charming. The name made me cringe a little, but it made people more charmed by me. Vanish turned into Out of Sight, giving a bonus to entering stealth after breaking stealth.
Shed Scales gave an interesting effect, it also gave me more insight into the spells true use. Every time I slept all negative effects would be shed. Which meant Shed Scales might be able to be used to cleanse the debuff Kyne's Imposter. As for the Psionic Ward, it gave me something I really wanted. It turned into Psionic Protection, which increased my mental resistance to all mind altering effects. I hoped this included things like the black books. If I wanted to read the Oghma Infinium I would need some mental resistance. Sadly the effect was only a 30% increase to whatever resistance I already naturally had.
Splendor was a master level restoration spell, which turned into Gifted. Which made me disappointed in what it gave me. A 1% increase to all skills except crafting skills sucked. It might be useful to power level the harder skill trees though. Radiate Energy was also disappointing. It turned into Energy Reluctance, the effect gave a 5% replenishment to mana after a spell was casted. With how much mana I had, that wasn't great.
Stendarr's Aura turned into Pure of Heart. The effect was a nebulous one, making trials that require good intentions passable at the bare minimum. I guess it might allow me to appear more altruistic or something. Shield of Daybreak turned into just Daybreak. This granted a 15% increase to all other defensive effects during the day. Which finally left Circle of protection.
This one was interesting as it turned into a passive effect called Divine Protection. Yet another nebulous effect, though thankfully more clear in what it did. The effect granted some kind of resistance to higher powers. This could be useful for reading the Oghma Infinium as well. I just didn't know if it meant directed action by a higher power or any higher power.
I looked around in the dreamscape and I didn't feel weak or out of mana. So I decided to test something else. I selected the debuff Kyne's Imposter and tried to convert it into a spell. Unsurprisingly it didn't work. So I tried to select Escalating Fete, since the passive effect came from a ring I wondered if it would work.
I blinked in surprise as I was given a new alteration spell. Escalating Vigor, it was pretty much the passive effect in spell form. With that turning into a spell I paused and selected Blessing of Nature. The passive effect made Spriggans friendly to me, so I wondered what the spell would be. The spell was unexpected, though ultimately it made sense. The spell was a destruction spell called Stinging Swarm. It was the spell spriggans used on you when attacking.
With that I was out of passive effects to convert. I could just start converting all my spells into passive effects, but after the failure of both Splendor and Radiate Energy I wasn't sure. I tapped my foot as I decided on what to do next.
I selected several spells in sequence. Selecting several alteration spells such Alter Weather, Petrify, Deep Storage, League Step, Dazzling Flash, Alter body, and finally Slow-fall. Within a second all the selected spells diverged into new spells. I paused and counted the spells and blinked in surprise.
I had received more spells than I had selected. Alter Weather seemed to have diverged into two spells. One was Alter Temperature and the other was Alter Humidity. These were actually way better than Alter Weather, since Alter Weather was a ritual spell and took an entire day to complete. The two new spells were instant though and effected a much smaller area.
The other spell that diverged into separate spells was Alter Body. The spell diverged into three different spells. The first was Alter Bone, I could see the use for this quickly. The second spell was Alter Flesh which was likely the magic the Face Sculptor of Riften used. The last spell I got though was rather odd. It was named Alter Function and it came with no description. This wasn't the worst part though, as the spell wasn't an Alteration spell. Alter Function was an Illusion spell, this made me all the more confused.
I shook my head and looked at the other new spells. Petrify gave me Mass Petrification, which casted in a cone of magic rather than a normal aoe like Mass Paralyze. Deep Storage created a destruction spell called Vacuum Strike. I could see the potential, I could use Vacuum Strike and follow it up with Libra. Vacuum Strike could also take out Dragons if I aim for the wings.
The last three new spells came from League Step, Dazzling Flash and Slow-Fall. Each were functional and provided a different version of the original spell. League-Step became Depth-Fin, which basically was the water version of League-Step. Dazzling Flash turned into Thundering Noise, the two spells were debuff spells that made light and noise blinding and deafening to the effected. Like a flashbang, but more lasting. Slow-Fall was the most direct change, it simply turned into Weighted-Fall.
The new spells were good, but I felt some slack. It seemed my mana in the dreamscape was finally on the lower end. This left me with some choices, do I diverge more spells in other schools? or do I start fusing some spells, since I could already see the potential in some. I decided on the fusing of spells.
I could fuse three spells together, so with some thought I decided to create a buffing spell. I selected the new Escalating Vigor, Frost-Flesh, and Splendor. Escalating Vigor gave increasing regen, power and stamina, while Frost-Flesh gave a Frost Cloak and a Ebonyflesh armor bonus, finally Splendor increased combat skills. With these three I hoped to create something powerful.
The fusion appeared to have failed, but a second later my eyes blurred. I felt heavy and I let myself collapse onto the invisible floor. The fusion was working? I blinked and my vision cleared and I looked at my spell list to find whatever was created.
My eyes locked onto the spell in three separate tabs. I still stared at though as it left me flabbergasted. The spell's name was unnamed. I clicked on the bracketed [Insert Name Here] and sure enough I could change the name. I briefly looked at the effects and decided on the name, Frost King's Cloak.
The name was fitting when looking at the effects of the spell. It gave an insane starting 435 armor rating, that scaled with two separate conditions. The colder it becomes the more armor I am granted and over the duration of the spell the armor would increase as well. That was just the armor rating though. The spell also gave a miniature frost cloak like Frost-flesh did, but the size increased over the duration of the spell.

Those two effects of the spell were just the upgraded version from Frost-Flesh. The spell gave an escalating chaos regen, increases a persons speed, and a slow increasing magic absorption. I assumed theses were taken from Escalating Vigor, as the spell still had one more effect. The last part I had to assume was taken from Splendor. It increased the potency of all passive effects while increasing skills at a 3:1 Ratio. With my jaw already on the floor, I looked over at the small notification that popped up as a result of naming the new spell.
I could likely fuse another spell or two. After the creation of Frost King's Cloak whatever else I create will likely be pretty average. I selected Tsaesci's Bite and Slay Living, the two were powerful restoration spells. Tsaesci's Bite was the highest tier poison damage spell while Slay Living could kill those which were weak. The spells fused and I vaguely recognized the name. Mantikora's Sting was the new spell.
I remembered Mantikoras were artificial creatures. Though I don't actually remember much about them, not too many lore books on them. There was some made by Dagon though, I knew that. I scratched my chin at the spell. 210 points of poison damage per second was wild though. The spell was labeled as a very corrosive toxin created to mimic the poison of a Mantikora using magic. The spell could be useful against tanky enemies, but if it was corrosive it might destroy smaller bodies too quickly removing loot.
I thought for a moment and selected Deep Storage and Necromantic Ritual. I had no real expectations when fusing these two. They were just two extremely high utility spells that I wanted to see fuse. The fusing took a second longer than the previous one, but a new spell appeared. Though I spotted it listed twice, an alteration and conjuration dual spell.
It was clearly another utility spell as it was named Corpse Storage. I read the description, the spell could store a corpse or undead thrall. The catch was it could either store 6 corpses or 2 thralls. Actually, thinking about it I could also store three corpses and 1 thrall. Which meant one could store the bodies they liked and create thralls if needed. I looked at my conjuration spells and frowned. I only had two real necromancy spells.
With some time left and seemingly some mana still left I went for another spell. I had to think about this carefully on how to create a better necromancy spell. Reanimate Corpse was the first obvious choice, as for the second and possible third option. I breathed out as I was a tad exhausted.
I looked at my list of spells, I wish I could select the spells that came from soul trapping people into the Star Prison. With some thought I selected Dragonhide, I paused again though. I unselected Dragonhide and went with Ebonyflesh instead. Finally I decided to select one more spell. Death Howl was an illusion spell that worked like a Banshee's scream. The three fused and I felt drained, almost all my mana was taken from me.
I looked at the new spell and smiled. The spell was a conjuration spell at the expert level. Create Death Knight was a decent spell that created a well, a death knight. The created undead was a thrall type undead that was semi-intelligent. I could use this with Corpse Storage, but I wondered why this was considered expert. Perhaps Undead Thrall was master level since it was a ritual spell and thus the undead created by it was reinforced by the magic placed into it.
I breathed out a long sigh, I felt exhausted. I could likely create one more spell, but it would force me awake. So I walked toward the exit, hopefully Viree would be back. I would like to get on the move before anything else happens.
