In This Life, I Will Extremely Pamper My Short-Lived Husband-Chapter 215 Fetal Movement
Chapter 215: Chapter 215 Fetal Movement
"My body doesn’t have any issues, so I thought I might as well go back to work to stop myself from having all these wild thoughts," Xu Jinzhi used this excuse to explain her decision.
Actually, it wasn’t entirely an excuse. Keeping herself busy indeed helped her to worry less.
She was just too afraid of losing Xie Yanchuan again, which is why, even though she knew she had been reborn and had changed many things, she still couldn’t help but think of her past life.
It was partly because of her pregnancy hormones acting up, but more so because in her past life, Xie Yanchuan had died while she was pregnant with Sui Sui.
Now that she was pregnant with Sui Sui again, she found it hard to control her thoughts.
Keeping busy meant less time for such thoughts, and therefore, less unnecessary worry.
Xie Yanchuan hesitated slightly before finally nodding in agreement, "Don’t overdo it, and if you feel tired, rest first."
"Okay," Xu Jinzhi didn’t argue at all, agreeing with what Xie Yanchuan said.
The next day, Xu Jinzhi went back to the company.
Xu Zhen, upon learning that Xu Jinzhi was back at work, made a special trip to see her.
Seeing Xu Jinzhi’s frail appearance, he couldn’t help but frown, "What’s the rush coming back to work? I’m here at the company, what do you have to worry about?"
In fact, Xu Zhen also wanted Xu Jinzhi to rest. It couldn’t be helped; Xu Jinzhi was naturally thin, and she didn’t put on much weight during her pregnancy, especially after her recent fever, she looked even thinner.
"I’m fine now, don’t worry about me. Staying at home and doing nothing really makes me restless," Xu Jinzhi patiently explained.
Xu Zhen displayed a face full of disdain as if he disapproved of Xu Jinzhi not knowing how to enjoy her good fortune.
Finally, he echoed Xie Yanchuan’s earlier instructions to Xu Jinzhi, "Anyway, you decide for yourself, just remember what’s most important right now."
Xu Jinzhi smiled and couldn’t resist teasing Xu Zhen, "In your heart, haven’t I always been the most important?"
Xu Zhen glared at Xu Jinzhi, said nothing in reply, and turned to leave the office.
Watching Xu Zhen’s retreating figure, the smile on Xu Jinzhi’s face widened. She didn’t smile for long before diving back into her work.
~
Days passed by, and before they knew it, February arrived.
Xie Yanchuan’s school had already started the winter holiday, and even though he was still busy in the lab, the new year was approaching and he didn’t have any new projects, so he found himself with much more free time.
The baby in Xu Jinzhi’s belly was nearly five months along. Before the new year, Xie Yanchuan and Xu Jinzhi went for a prenatal checkup.
The baby was fine, and the doctor had no special instructions, so Xu Jinzhi and Xie Yanchuan left the hospital quickly.
On the way home, Xu Jinzhi felt the baby moving and immediately told Xie Yanchuan, "The baby’s moving, quick, feel it!"
Upon hearing this, Xie Yanchuan hurriedly reached out his hand to feel the baby’s kicks.
The baby had only recently started kicking, and the occurrences were rare. Today was the second time Xie Yanchuan felt the baby’s kicks.
"Baby, I’m your dad," Xie Yanchuan said tenderly.
As he placed his hand on Xu Jinzhi’s belly and felt something bump against his palm again, Xie Yanchuan looked up at Xu Jinzhi, his eyes filled with surprise and joy.
Xu Jinzhi was also looking at Xie Yanchuan, her eyes brimming with happiness.
"She knows I’m Dad," Xie Yanchuan said, his lips unwittingly curving upward.
"Of course, she knows you’re Dad," Xu Jinzhi remarked.
Upon returning home, Tuantuan immediately approached them, asking in a milky voice, "Is baby sister doing well? Is she growing up nicely?"
"Yes, baby sister is very well-behaved," Xu Jinzhi responded. Tuantuan didn’t understand what prenatal checkup meant, so when they explained it to Tuantuan, they’d simply say they were checking if baby sister was growing up nicely.
Knowing that her sister was alright, Tuantuan smiled happily.
After lunch ended at noon and Tuantuan was whisked away for a nap by the nanny, Xu Jinzhi also retreated to the bedroom to prepare for a nap.
Xie Yanchuan joined Xu Jinzhi, but woke up after just an hour. Xu Jinzhi was still asleep, and Xie Yanchuan didn’t wake her, quietly leaving the bedroom first.
Upon leaving the bedroom, Xie Yanchuan headed to the study to work on his thesis, but he’d barely started when Xie Suian’s call came through.
"The New Year is just a couple of days away, why don’t you come back now instead of waiting for New Year’s Eve?" Xie Suian suggested.
"Your grandfather is getting on in years. Usually, you visit just once a week sometimes not for half a month. Your grandfather misses you both."
"Take advantage of the New Year holidays and spend more time at home with your grandfather."
Xie Yanchuan didn’t immediately agree but found it hard to refuse considering his grandfather’s age.
"I’ll ask Jinzhi in a bit," Xie Yanchuan said.
If it were up to Xie Yanchuan himself, he would return, but now that he wasn’t alone, he couldn’t just think for himself in everything he did.
"Alright," Xie Suian did not press further. After all this time, he well knew who held the reins in their couple’s relationship.
Initially, Xie Suian wasn’t keen on Xu Jinzhi marrying Xie Yanchuan.
Firstly, because the heir of the Xie family was not Xie Yanchuan, and secondly, because he had frequent contact with Xu Jinzhi and understood her character well.
Within their family, he looked after Xie Linchuan, and He Shuying looked after Xie Xingchuan, leaving Xie Yanchuan somewhat neglected since childhood.
He thought, since the Xie family hadn’t provided for Xie Yanchuan, the Xie family had no need to demand Xie Yanchuan’s marriage in return.
He always acted according to his own wishes, and so could Xie Yanchuan in choosing a girl to marry.
Yet, Xu Jinzhi took an interest in Xie Yanchuan, and when he brought it up with Xie Yanchuan, intending it as a casual mention, expecting that once he refused, it would never be mentioned again.
But Xie Yanchuan astonishingly agreed!
Now, the matter became somewhat beyond control. The subsequent courtship, marriage, and childbirth were all up to the young couple, and the family could no longer dictate their decisions.
Thankfully, they had been living well over the years, giving Xie Suian some reassurance.
"Alright, you two discuss it and decide," Xie Suian pulled back his thoughts.
"Mhm."
After hanging up the phone, Xie Yanchuan glanced at the time, thinking Xu Jinzhi probably hadn’t awoken yet, so he put down the phone and resumed working on his thesis.
An hour later, Xie Yanchuan finally made a move, tidying up the desk simply before leaving the study and returning to the bedroom.
Rather coincidentally, just as Xie Yanchuan reached the bedroom, Xu Jinzhi stirred, seemingly about to wake up. In just a few seconds, Xu Jinzhi slowly opened her eyes.
