Chapter 213: Chapter 213: Will It Really Not Happen Again?

Xu Jinzhi furrowed her brows slightly, feeling somewhat dazed, "Do I have a fever?"

"Um," Xie Yanchuan responded softly and then propped Xu Jinzhi up so she could lean against him. He touched his forehead to hers, feeling that her temperature was indeed higher than his own.

"Are you hungry? Do you want to eat something first?" Xie Yanchuan asked again.

Xu Jinzhi heard him, but it took her a moment to come back to herself. Her mind was flashing through some blurry fragments that made her already pale face look even worse.

Xu Jinzhi subconsciously raised her head to look at the man in front of her, her eyes filled with sheer panic.

Seeing the fear in her eyes, Xie Yanchuan felt an uncomfortable pang, "Jinzhi, don’t be scared, it was just a nightmare, and I’ll be right here with you."

At this moment, Xie Yanchuan was feeling some regret. Xu Jinzhi had a nightmare in the middle of the night, and she was dazed then, but he hadn’t realized how badly the nightmare had frightened her.

Otherwise, she wouldn’t have started to run a mild fever in the latter part of the night.

Considering she had asked him not to leave her, the nightmare must have involved something happening to him.

Xie Yanchuan once again assured Xu Jinzhi, "I definitely won’t go on any business trips recently; I will stay with you, alright?"

Xu Jinzhi was already extremely panicked, and upon hearing Xie Yanchuan’s assurance, tears unexpectedly fell from her eyes.

Seeing her silently shedding tears, Xie Yanchuan felt a heaviness in his heart. He leaned in and kissed away the tear streaks on Xu Jinzhi’s face, "Jinzhi, don’t be afraid."

Xu Jinzhi reached back to hug Xie Yanchuan, her voice hoarse and tinged with cries, "Xie Yanchuan, I love you, you can’t leave me."

"I love you too, I won’t leave, I’ll be with you for a lifetime," Xie Yanchuan replied, echoing Xu Jinzhi’s words.

Xu Jinzhi was still in a daze. Xie Yanchuan washed her face for her, then propped her up in bed and began to feed her congee.

Xu Jinzhi didn’t refuse, but she really had no appetite, and after just a few bites, she couldn’t help but shake her head to decline Xie Yanchuan, "I don’t want to eat anymore."

Xie Yanchuan knew how uncomfortable Xu Jinzhi must be feeling at the moment. After all, she was pregnant and couldn’t take injections or medications, so she just had to tough it out. It was certain she was feeling unwell.

"Then don’t eat, do you want to rest some more?" Xie Yanchuan asked gently.

Xu Jinzhi nodded and then lay back down in bed, but her head ached, and even lying down with her eyes closed, she still felt uncomfortable.

Xu Jinzhi knew herself that she had to fight through it.

She finally fell into a deep sleep after some time had passed.

Xie Yanchuan breathed a sigh of relief but was still filled with concern. He reached out carefully to touch Xu Jinzhi’s cheek, wishing she could recover soon.

Not long after, Tuantuan also came to the bedroom to see Xu Jinzhi. Knowing that Mom was sick, Tuantuan said in his milky voice, "I want to stay here with Mom."

Xie Yanchuan disagreed, "Mom has a fever; if Tuantuan stays here, you might get sick too, and if Tuantuan gets a fever, Mom will be very worried."

"I’m not sick," Tuantuan stated earnestly.

"Dad knows, but if Tuantuan goes over there now, you might get sick. So, it’s better for Tuantuan to go out and play for now, okay?" Xie Yanchuan patiently explained.

Knowing the resilience of children was not strong, Xie Yanchuan didn’t dare take the risk with Tuantuan; otherwise, Jinzhi would surely get upset if she found out.

Tuantuan pouted, somewhat unhappy, but Xie Yanchuan had no choice.

Having Auntie take Tuantuan out to play, Xie Yanchuan returned to the bedroom to keep a vigilant eye on Xu Jinzhi’s condition.

After confirming that Xu Jinzhi hadn’t developed a fever, Xie Yanchuan finally allowed himself to thoroughly relax.

By the time Xu Jinzhi woke up again, it was already noon. Although she still felt tired, at least the headache was no longer unbearable.

Xie Yanchuan had stayed in the bedroom, and as soon as Xu Jinzhi awoke, he was by her side at once.

"Do you feel better?" Xie Yanchuan asked.

Xu Jinzhi paused, then nodded, "Much better; the headache’s gone."

"That’s good."

Xu Jinzhi continued to look at Xie Yanchuan, the events from before surfacing once again in her mind—this time not like when she was woken up in fright in the middle of the night, nor like when she had just woken up in the morning.

Xu Jinzhi had calmed down a great deal.

But that didn’t mean the worry at the bottom of her heart had vanished.

Xu Jinzhi wondered if such an incident would truly never happen again?

Xie Yanchuan checked the time; it was precisely mealtime, and the servant had already prepared lunch. He was uneasy leaving Xu Jinzhi alone in the bedroom, so he hadn’t gone to eat.

But since Jinzhi had already woken up, Xie Yanchuan still asked her, "Would you like to eat something first?"

Xu Jinzhi nodded, and Xie Yanchuan immediately said, "Then I’ll go down and bring it up."

"No need!" Xu Jinzhi quickly grabbed Xie Yanchuan’s arm and explained when he looked at her, "I’m much better. I’ll wash up, and we can go downstairs to eat."

Xie Yanchuan hesitated for a moment, then agreed; after all, staying in the bedroom without moving was definitely not okay.

By the time the two of them reached the downstairs, Tuantuan was nearly full. However, upon seeing Mom, little Tuantuan became excited and immediately put down his children’s chopsticks, intent on climbing out of the child’s high chair.

"Mom, Mom!" Tuantuan called out, frantic, but unable to get down by himself, he could only seek help from the Auntie beside him.

The Auntie quickly lifted him out and just as he steadied himself, Tuantuan ran towards Xu Jinzhi, looking like he wanted her to pick him up.

Yet, he stopped at a distance from Xu Jinzhi—a simple reason: Tuantuan remembered he mustn’t bump into his sister.

So there he stood, looking up at Xu Jinzhi, "Mom, are you feeling better?"

Xu Jinzhi smiled, "Thank you for your concern, Tuantuan. Mom is already better."

Tuantuan smiled happily, "Mom’s not in pain, sister’s not in pain either."

"All right, Tuantuan, finish eating. Mom’s going to eat as well," Xie Yanchuan said from the side.

The group then settled in the dining room to have their meal. In the middle of it, Xie Yanchuan received a call from his father-in-law.

Xu Jinzhi was off work today, something Xie Yanchuan had informed Assistant Chen about in advance, so Xu Zhen was also aware of the situation.

The call was naturally a concern about how Xu Jinzhi was doing.

"She’s much better now, please be assured," Xie Yanchuan said respectfully and then, looking at Xu Jinzhi sitting next to him, he passed the phone, "Dad wants to speak with you."
