Chapter 1226: It’s just Hera Cruel now
The day went by without anyone noticing it. For the first time in quite a long time, none of them thought of anything. Everyone suddenly didn’t have any sort of worry about tomorrow. It was as if they all understood that they had tomorrow to live.
Once morning came, Lukas went to see Hera to discuss important matters regarding the Secret Societies.
Florence already fell, but that didn’t mean they could just leave everything at that.
What happened affected the entirety of the Secret Society. Hence, it needed to be discussed, especially with the sudden change of head of the other families and the shift of power in the Secret Society.
Lukas gathered every head of each family in a room. Elliot Dunkell, Dominic, and a few members of the reapers were also present as witnesses. However, they stayed on the side of the room.
"First and foremost, I welcome the new members of this meeting." Lukas started the meeting with the usual pleasantries, welcoming the new head of the Capeti and Ashton’s family. They were both young men: one was in his late teens and the other was in his early twenties.
The young men nodded at Lukas, conducting themselves with nobility and an upright pose.
Lukas was pleased with how Hera chose the new heads of both families. They were perfect for the role. Not dwelling on his amazement, he shifted to the oldest member of this meeting.
"Mr. Ebonhart," he called, and the middle-aged man nodded. "Do you have anything to say before we start?"
"There is nothing I would like to say that isn’t about the meeting." The middle-aged man glossed his eyes over the table before his gaze landed on Hera. "If we’re going to start, then let me start the meeting with one question, Miss Cruel."
Hera raised a brow as she studied the man.
"What do you plan after this?" Mr. Ebonhart inquired solemnly without beating around the bush. "Currently, with the changes of heads in the three families, things are still unstable. However, that isn’t the most pressing matter. What you did... many in the secret society wonder about the capabilities of the other families."
Simply put, although the new heads of the Capeti and Ashton families were worthy candidates. The fact that they got the role through Hera incited something else. Not to mention, Hera was now the leader of the Oxley Family by default.
To summarize the situation, it appeared to others that Hera now controlled not just the Oxley Family, but also the other two families.
The corner of Hera’s lips curled up before she slowly leaned closer to the table. She propped her arms against the edge of the table and asked, "Mr. Ebonhart, are you saying because of me, the reputation of the secret families is being questioned?"
"I am saying sooner or later, the secret family structure will inevitably change."
"It already changed, Mr. Ebonhart." Hera dawdled. "At this moment, there are no more Secret Families."
Everyone’s expression was solemn despite hearing those. Not just the new heads of the other family, but even Lukas Silvers weren’t surprised to hear that. The only person who showed displeasure about this was Mr. Ebonhart.
"What people see is true, but they are wrong about one detail," she stressed, tapping her index on the surface at neither a slow nor fast pace. "I don’t only have three families on a leash, but four."
Four?
Mr. Ebonhart quickly shifted his eyes to Lukas, only to see the man smile amicably. "Mr. Silvers, did you pledge subservience to the Oxley Family?" his voice carried disbelief.
"No." Lukas’s answer was quick, without a second hesitation. "I, along with Mr. Capeti and Mr. Ashton, pledged subservience to Hera Cruel."
"It’s no longer the secret families, Mr. Ebonhart," the young Mr. Ashton spoke coldly. His aloof and fearless demeanor was hard not to notice. "It’s just Hera Cruel now."
The young Mr. Capeti nodded. His temperament was the stark contrast to the young Mr. Ashton’s despite being older. "We all accepted it when she managed to force the three families to their knees in a single night."
"Even if her strategy that night wouldn’t work again in the future, Hera Cruel already won. And we all agreed we do not want to fight her in the future as well," Lukas chimed in. "I would not go into depth with the reason, but I hope Mr. Zhu’s name is enough explanation."
Mr. Ebonhart frowned deeply, glancing in Dominic’s direction.
Dominic carried an undisturbed air around him. His expression was stiff and unchanging, as if nothing could ever faze him. He wasn’t at the table where the people in power were seated, but that didn’t make him seem any less. He was more like a god watching over the situation on Earth.
While Mr. Ebonhart assessed Dominic, Hera propped her hands on her cheeks. Her naturally intimidating look beamed brightly. It almost blinded the rest of the family leaders.
"Mr. Ebonhart," the young Mr. Ashton called, snapping everyone back to the current matters at hand. "We’re saying this not to ask for approval."
Mr. Ebonhart averted his eyes and huffed. "Do you think I do not understand what all of you are implying?"
Mr. Ebonhart was an old timer and had dealt with the troublesome former family leaders, including Florence Oxley. He might be older than all of these family leaders, but he wasn’t slow to pick up their hints.
What they were trying to say was that if he refused to accept this change, the entire Ebonhart would cease to exist. What a bunch of hot-blooded lads! However, Mr. Ebonhart was the type to adapt quickly to the changing tides.
"Then, onto my first question." Mr. Ebonhart calmed down and gazed at Hera. "Miss Hera Cruel, what are your plans now that you had the four families to serve you?"
Hera snapped back to her senses, gazing at them with a bit of confusion. All of them looked at her eagerly, as if they were all waiting for whatever orders she had for them.
"Ah." Hera rubbed her chin and casually said, "I want to abdicate whatever title I have at the moment and keep the five secret family structure as it is. Charlie will take charge of the Oxley Family." ƒгeewebnovёl.com
Everyone looked at her blankly, as if they didn’t hear her properly. When her words sank in, their faces contorted in dismay before the entire room shook with a loud,
"Eh?!"
