Chapter 1200: Word had spread

BOOM!

The explosion made the ground shake, taking everyone off guard except Hera. As the dust and rubbles descended on the great hall, Hera slid forward to the nearest soldier within her reach. Taking advantage of their shock, she pulled the rifle strapped around his body.

"Heh." A maniacal grin plastered across her face. "Too late to switch sides now."

The second those words rolled out of her lips, she quickly slipped her finger into the trigger. With the man’s finger still on the trigger, she pulled it and shot him straight to his chin. Hera quickly jumped from the floor, holding the rifle, and let it slide off the soldier’s body.

"She’s armed!" a soldier yelled, snapping back to the current lapse upon hearing the deafening gunfire. But alas, because of the sudden explosion, everything in their surrounding was now fogged by dust. Before they knew it, all they saw was sparks from a direction, taking them down in one shot.

The sound of gunfire continuously rang in the great hall. Along with it were shouts from all directions, knowing there was only one way for them to communicate.

"Protect the madam!"

"Take her away!"

"Don’t let them get away!"

"Your bandanas!"

"Hera Cruel..." Florence shuddered in both anger and shock before a hand suddenly grabbed her shoulder. When she looked back, she nearly twisted his hand, but then saw it was one of her soldiers.

"Madam, we have to —"

Florence’s breath hitched as the soldier standing beside her suddenly collapsed on his side. Looking down at him, the first thing she saw was the hole in his temple and the blood crawling underneath his head. She looked around once, catching a silhouette and sparks through the building fog around.

"Team Delta, take down Unit 6th with you. Change of plans."

"Unit 9th, the first unit had turned their back against the Madam. Take them down."

"Unit 4th, retreat. It’s a coup."

’This is not good,’ she told herself, hearing the faint radio transmission.

Earlier today, their signal was interrupted and wasn’t working, but now, it seems to be functioning well. This was definitely Hera’s doing.

’I have to get out of here.’

Without wasting a breath in inhaling the suffocating smell of dust and gunpowder, Florence quickly took off the rifle from the soldier next to her. As she did so, she also took off her heels. If only she knew Hera would be this bold, she would’ve put on more comfortable clothes.

There was no time for regret now, though.

Once Florence armed herself, she squinted her eyes and waited for a spark to catch her line of sight. It didn’t take long when a few caught her eyes. She aimed in that direction, shooting even though she wasn’t sure if the person she was shooting was Hera.

"Florence!"

Florence flinched as she took several steps back, shooting in the direction where she assumed Hera would be. By the sound of Hera’s voice, Florence simply calculated her location.

PHEW!

Her breath stopped when a bullet almost grazed her leg. Despite the rounds of fire being fired, Florence heard this particular bullet hit the pillar behind her. She also felt the heat of the bullet when it went past her.

Florence gulped, knowing their formation was ruined. She sent out her people because they were expecting Hera Cruel to march her men into the island. But since Hera was the only person who came to the island, she still ordered her men to keep on standby. Who knows? Her men were probably just waiting for their chance to sneak in.

’This brat...’ She clenched her teeth, opening fire as she jumped away from the great hall.

Who would have thought Hera would be bold enough to come in here all alone with the mere thought of changing Florence’s soldiers’ minds? No one in their sound mind would make that gamble.

"Madam!"

As Florence managed to escape the great hall, some soldiers rushing to the scene caught her. The soldier waved in a direction, raising his rifle to take down one of the soldiers that seemed to come to the madam. Florence looked back, only to see a soldier fall.

"That bitch...!" she grumbled through gritted teeth, running to the soldier who came to her rescue.

"Madam, are you alright? We rushed here the moment we heard the explosion."

"Nigel turned his back on me," Florence breathed out. "Take me to the control room. We need to tell everyone to return."

"Yes, madam!"

Florence and the soldier ran toward the control room which was in the other wing of the huge palace-like mansion. The sound of gunfire and explosions echoed. Turning her head to the side, her eyes caught some of her people fighting each other. Small explosions were also seen, assuming they were akin to those little insects that caused the explosion in the great hall.

"Madam, we need to take this way!" the soldier yelled as he pointed in a different direction. "I heard some units had turned their backs on you as well and were waiting to ambush you!"

Florence glanced at the soldier and nodded. They didn’t slow down, coming closer and closer to the eerily quiet turn at the end. For some reason, Florence felt this strange sensation in her heart. Casting the soldier another look, she noticed the black handkerchief tied around the strap of his rifle.

Her teeth clenched as she looked ahead. A glint flickered across her eyes, skidding in her tracks when they were about to reach the end of the long hallway.

"Madam —"

BANG!

Without a second hesitation, Florence shot the man straight in his chest. The man fell with a violent thud, watching him clasped his chest to stop the bleeding.

"How dare you...?" she grumbled angrily as she approached the man. Standing next to him, her face twitched. "Blame yourself for taking an outsider’s side instead of the person who trained and fed all of you."

Florence aimed at the dying man and riddled his chest with holes. Once she vented her anger, she squatted down and looted him. She didn’t have to loot, since she had a huge armory for herself. However, to reach that place, she needed to be armed. freewēbnoveℓ.com

"Hera Cruel," she hissed as she straightened her back, glaring daggers at the end turn. "You’ll regret doing this to me."

With that being said, Florence marched with a rifle strapped around her body and another one in her possession. She also held a grenade with the other, knowing she couldn’t blindly trust anyone right now.

Word had spread, and she didn’t know anymore how many had turned on her.

In that case, she might as well destroy the entire island herself along with all the traitors and Hera Cruel in it.
