Chapter 1158: Silvers

Meanwhile...

[HEART GENERAL HOSPITAL]

"Dom, why don’t you go home?" Ivy joined Dominic on the bench right outside Old Madam Zhu’s private ward. "The doctor said Grandma Zhu will be fine."

She pursed her lips, not getting any reply from him. For a second, she simply stared at Dominic’s side profile. He was leaning forward with his arms on his legs, his head hung low. Although he still managed to do some of his work in the minister’s office today, he went straight to the hospital right after.

"I’ll look after her," she offered with a subtle smile. "You hadn’t had proper sleep since last night. At this point, I’m afraid you’d fall first."

"Go home, Ivy," said Dominic quietly. "Don’t worry about me."

"How can I not? Worrying about you is my job."

"It’s not."

"Then, making sure my boss is healthy is," she added, shrugging as he cast her a look. "I know things are complicated between you and Grandma Zhu, but I also knew you care for her."

"I do, and I wish I didn’t." Dominic sighed as he cast his eyes down. "What that Madam said... they’re true."

Ivy bit her inner bottom lip. "It’s not your fault."

"I know."

"Does she... Hera know?" she asked quietly and carefully. "Do they know?" — this time, she was including Tiger.

From what she could remember, Tiger mentioned this mother figure to her once or twice. Family was a sensitive topic to Tiger, but he shared that part of himself. From what she remembered, Hera’s mom was like Tiger’s mother, and he respected and valued her just as much as how he treasured his sister.

’Considering Hera Cruel was his world...’ Ivy shrugged off the idea because they already had a lot on their plate at the moment. "Dom, if they didn’t know about it, we can put it off —"

"It’s not that I’m afraid that she’d know about it, Ivy." Bitterness shone in Dominic’s eyes as he forced a smile. "It’s the fact that she would say the same just as what everybody is saying: that it’s not my fault."

"Because that’s the truth, Dom," Ivy stressed. "It’s not your fault."

"Then, what?" Dominic looked back at her as he added, "She had to forgive the person who lured her mother out, which caused her mother’s death. She had to force herself to not do anything to the person who had caused her so much pain all these years just because that person is my grandmother."

He ran his tongue across his inner cheek as he let out a scoff. "Hera Cruel... that woman suffered because of this family. And once she finds out about it, she has to swallow more pain than she had endured all these years... for this family."

"I’m... tired of it, Ivy," Dominic breathed out. "While I lived a life of luxury and comfort, achieving everything so easily, I was oblivious to the people out there who shed blood, sacrificed their future, and ruined their lives because of our Zhu Family."

"That’s what I’m most terrified of," he added under his breath. "To be reliant and complacent about the fact that she would understand and not blame me without knowing how much that would cost her."

No one could blame others if they deem Dominic as complicated or stubborn. After all, if he knew this piece of information wasn’t enough to break whatever relationship he had with Hera Cruel, he should be fine with it.

But alas, Ivy understood.

Although unsure of the real connection between Dominic and Hera, she knew Dominic. If this man owed Hera, then that explained this. Adding the fact that Dominic and Axel had suddenly gone estranged from their elders already gave her an idea that there were already cracks in the once perfectly bonded family. This could be just the last straw, the last push.

"I’m sorry," Ivy sighed. "This is something... I can’t help you."

"Many people would listen when I talk, but knowing I could trust the ears who were listening to me is rare; that’s good enough for me," he said, peeling his gaze from her. "Go home and rest."

Ivy nodded. "Just in case you forgot, I finished reviewing the clips."

"What did you find?"

"Nothing." Ivy sighed. "The person in custody wasn’t caught entering the Old Madam’s room."

"And so was the person who seized her?"

"Yes." Ivy nodded. "Bear and I were already on to it."

"Don’t bother."

"What?"

"I think I already knew who did it." His eyes softened at the thought, keeping his gaze on the floor. "It’s Hera."

"What?" Ivy furrowed her brows. "What if it’s not her?"

"Then I guess I have another problem."

Ivy opened her mouth to scold him for acting so cool about having another problem. However, she stopped before she could even act on the thought. Dominic already had a lot on his plate at the moment. All of these problems and things he had to do were enough work for the next five years. So, another problem sounded like it wasn’t as surprising anymore.

"As much as I hate the idea of going home while my boss hasn’t, I don’t want to look ten times older in a year." Ivy slowly stood and faced him, bowing politely. "I’ll see you tomorrow, Boss." freёweɓnovel.com

Dominic simply rocked his head, snapping his eyes up when she turned around. But his eyes didn’t linger on her figure as Butler Fu approached them at the same time. Ivy stopped for a moment to offer a polite bow and smile at Butler Fu before walking past him.

Butler Fu advanced into Dominic’s position, stopping several steps from him. He bowed deeply while Dominic looked away from him.

"Young Master, I have to tell you something," said Butler Fu. "Before the Old Madam collapsed, she sent me an errand."

"Who did she ask you to kill this time?"

Butler Fu frowned as he lowered his head. "She asked me to give you something she worked hard for many years."

"I don’t want anything that she worked hard for."

"Young Master."

"Butler Fu, I respect you, but I want to be left alone right now."

"But —"

"Enough." Dominic rose from his seat and faced Butler Fu. "I don’t judge you for valuing her more than your life. But please, I don’t want to hear a word regarding how I should feel about this situation. Grandma crossed many lines countless times and people suffered, including the people she claimed to protect."

Dominic wanted to say more, but he chose to keep the rest of his sentiments to himself. Instead, he turned around to walk away from Butler Fu. Seeing that Dominic was leaving, Butler Fu took a deep breath.

"When Felice died, Old Madam Zhu did everything in her power to make the people who made her kill her friend pay," Butler Fu spoke in one breath, using this time to get Dominic’s attention. "The Madam fought a patient fight, knowing the people she wanted were not people she could easily pick a fight on."

Dominic slowly looked back at Butler Fu. "Your point?"

"She might not be able to see her plans come to fruition, but you might," Butler Fu breathed out. "Before I left the Madam to her room last night, she told me to contact some people."

He paused as a glint flickered across his eyes. "Young Master, one of those people is here now. Please. Spare us a moment of your time. You might find them helpful."

"I’m pleased to finally meet you, Dominic Zhu." Standing several meters from Dominic inside another private ward was a man around the same age as him.

The man carried a pair of hazel eyes, shoulder-length brown hair, with defined facial features. But what stood out about him the most was his large physique; not as bulk as Bear or Tiger, though. His smile could charm anyone but the ice-cold Dominic.

"I heard a lot about you," the man added, approaching Dominic and then handing his hand out. "The name is Lukas Silvers, the current head of the Silvers Family, one of the Five Secret Families. I presumed you already heard about the secret society from the beautiful Madam Zhu?"
