House of The Dragon-A God Amongst Men-Chapter 149: Impending Devastation II
Chapter 149 - Impending Devastation II
(Third Person POV)
Duskguard Soldiers marched through the gates of the City, pushing back anyone that got in the way. Targaryen Soldiers tried to stop them but were brutally taken down by them.
The plan was to perform a hostile takeover on a portion of the city, to display the Duskguard's standinf in this conflict. And while Drakken only ordered to kill the resisting soldiers, any innocent bystander who thought to provoke them would be caught in the crossfire.
There was not much the guards could do; the Duskguard led by Jon Rivers were pushing through and spreading through the city, forcing the civilians inside and keeping them in.
In the Red Keep, the Crown were skeptical about their next move. Jaehaerys was still shaken up about the entire ordeal with Drakken and the news of his sister and grandson's death hit him surprisingly hard.
However, upon taking a moment to compose himself, he steeled his resolve and ordered his men to lock the Red Keep down and create a formation in the city to keep the Duskguard from advancing.
While the Duskguard are superior to any army, the mere fact that the King won't back down is enough to show the people that they are not helpless.
Drakken rejoined The Duskguard and while wielding his draconic wings on his back, he ripped through any opposing soldier with a wicked smirk.
The sight was that of a nightmare, anyone that saw Drakken impaling men with his wings were deeply scarred. Drakken would pierce men through their armor and combust them with flames.
As he did this, Saera and Maegelle watched from behind, seeing the power of Drakken.
While Saera watched in awe, Maegelle did so in pure horror. However, this was something that did not surprise her. She was used to the brutality that was Drakken, but she could not help but feel pity for the lives lost.
But there was something that bothered her the most about it; she was okay with it. She was okay with the fact that soldiers die all the time in battle. She was okay with the fact that these men fought hard to stop the injustice from happening.
What bothered her the most about it was that she was standing next to the one who is causing this injustice. She was with Drakken, the walking Disaster that he is.
And she could not do anything about it.
Drakken walked towards Jon as they rejoined in the street, a group of soldiers following the commander.
"My Lord." He said, "I've heard conflicting reports that you were in the Stormlands."
"Ah yes." Drakken said as he had two soldiders impaled in his wings, "That was a little trick I played. Hard to explain but the Targaryens performed an improvised and half-assed plan to kill me using The Sword."
"The Sword??" Jon asked with a surprised expression, "It actually works against you??"
"No." Drakken smirked, "All that was a ploy to fuck with them."
"Oh." Jon said, "Well...I can see why you weren't concerned. Well, we are here now. What is the next step? Do we take the whole city? That would be hard if we are not to harm civilians directly."
"No." Drakken said, "We won't need to do that. This is part of the plan. Besides, my dear beloved Maegelle will not appreciate the bloodshed. Right, My Sweet?"
He flicked his wings, flinging the bodies of the soldiers to the side, causing Maegelle to grimace. He then turned around and walked towards her, caressing her cheek with the back of his hand. Maegelle showed no reaction to this; her eyes only showed a hint of concern, not for herself but for Drakken.
"Hey!" Saera exclaimed, "She doesn't want you, why do you call her that?!"
"Oh, you're still here." Drakken said, "You should go back."
"No." She said
"Listen." Drakken said seriously as he furled his wings, "You want no part of what's about to come. Go back to the Red Keep and stay there."
"But I belong to you." She said
Drakken walked up to her, "In time, I will retrieve you. And well....I know that you're keeping your promise." He said with a slight smirk, "And as a reward for going through all the way, I will...."
He leaned in and whispered something in her ear. Saera widened her eyes and blushed fiercely at what Drakken told her.
He then straightened up as Saera covered her face.
"Ohh...." She said, "That is a promise?"
"That's why I won't kill your Father." Drakken chuckled, "But for now, get out of my sight. Jon, escort her to the Red Keep. Make sure nobody touched her. If they do, kill them. And send a message to the Crown; Any more provocations and this city burns."
Jon nodded, "And your plan?" He said, "Forgive my impudence but I am desiring to know in order to properly act upon it."
"Worry not...." Drakken grabbed Maegelle by the waist, "It's about to.....hm.....that's st-"
He was cut off by the deafening roar of Balerion. The entire city fell silent upon hearing the call of the legendary dragon. No matter who stood in the streets, they froze to look up into the sky as the deafening sound was heard again.
Saera looked up, "That roar....."
"Just in time." Drakken smirked
"H-He sounds healthier than usual...." Maegelle said, "Balerion...."
"Oh yeah." Drakken said, "I healed him fully."
"W-What?" Maegelle looked at him, "Why?"
"You'll see." Drakken said, "Anyways.....Jon, get it done. We'll be back."
Suddenly, both Drakken and Maegelle disappeared.
**************
Outside the Dragonpit, Alyssa was standing in front of her dragon Meleys. She was looking before her, Balerion towering over both of them as he roared.
Alyssa was too shocked to react to the deafening roar. She merely stood there wide-eyed and took in the sight of The Black Dread standing before her. The dragonkeepers stood at the edge, amazed by this sight. They didn't foresee this happening and were overwhelmed with excitement at what had just happened.
Atop Balerion, Baelon Targaryen sat on the saddle, covered in bruises and blood.
One thing was for sure; Balerion was claimed, albeit it was very difficult to do so.
Baelon was panting, "I cannot believe it...." He said, "In a fit of desperation, Drakken aided us....inadvertently....but he restored the Targaryen's greatest power...!"
Alyssa smiled, "Nice!"
Baelon nodded, "With him.....the Duskguard will-"
He was cut off by loud clapping and everyone turned to see Drakken walking up to them with Maegelle behind him. His bony wing-like limbs were furled on his back, an unusual and unsettling sight even for Maegelle.
"I congratulate you, Baelon!" Drakken said with a smirk, "You did what nobody in your Family's history was capable of!"
"Balerion...." Maegelle could only stare in awe
Baelon widened his eyes, "D-Drakken?!"
"Oh. Right." Drakken chuckled, "You weren't there for the twist. Yea, so The Sword was fake, it didn't work. Was a trick by yours truly. Your aunt and nephew are dead....kinda weird that your aunt is your nephew's mother.....but whatever, Targaryen Incest. I won't think too hard on it. Corlys is dead. Uhm what else...?"
"What?!" Baelon scowled, "Y-You fucking bastard!!! Did you-"
"Oh no." Drakken cut him off, "I didn't. But I sure as hell was not going to bring them back even if your father and brother begged me. Hell, even if your Mother gave herself to me, I was not going to help them. That was the punishment, Baelon. Anyways.....Balerion, huh? You must think highly of yourself right now....being the only one to claim two dragons. Congrats. For a mere Targaryen, this must be a huge ordeal.....but to me? Its nothing ...."
"You made this possible." Baelon said with a glare
"Oh, I know." Drakken smirked, "But everything is done for a reason. You see....you can have the fun you can have for Balerion. He's restored to his glory days.....but....I am a Scholar....and I love to experiment....you can blame my brothers for that. Anyways, I wanted to see what the whole deal with Balerion was....but I had to wait until my big boy was ready to take flight."
Baelon scowled, "What are you talking about?!"
"Hehe...." Drakken said as his wings slowly dissipated into his back, "Balerion is big and powerful.....but....."
"What can he do against Grayle?"
