Horrific Shorts: Zombie Edition-Chapter 599: Story : The Black Tide
The storm raged over the valley of the dead, lightning clawing through the sickly green sky. Below, an ocean of rotting bodies moved as one—a relentless horde of the undead, thousands upon thousands, their twisted faces etched with endless hunger.
Atop a crumbling watchtower, Captain Marcus "Iron Will" Kane scanned the grotesque army through his binoculars. His stomach turned at the sheer scale of the horror before them. This was no ordinary horde. These creatures wielded weapons—rusted blades, broken spears, splintered clubs—as if some ancient force had commanded them to war.
"Jesus…" murmured Officer Riley 'Quick Shot' Bennett, lowering her sniper rifle. "They're... evolving?"
"No," corrected Detective Lila 'Huntress' Navarro, her voice low. "They're remembering."
The ground trembled beneath them as the undead began their charge.
"Hold your positions!" Marcus barked into his comms. "We make our last stand here!"
On the fortified bridge below, Sergeant Jenna 'Blaze' Hart slammed two incendiary charges onto the concrete. "We blow this damn thing when they're halfway across!"
Beside her, Officer Derek 'Shield' Coleman braced his riot shield as the first wave clashed against their defenses. The undead swung their crude weapons, forcing Derek back as he crushed skulls with brutal counterattacks.
From a rooftop, Riley picked them off one by one, each bullet a headshot, but for every corpse that fell, dozens more surged forward.
"There's too many!" Ethan "Brain" O'Connor yelled over the comms. "We need an escape route—now!"
A chilling howl split the air.
Atop a jagged hill, a monstrous figure loomed—a towering undead warlord clad in rusted armor, its hollow eyes burning with unnatural light. It raised a massive war axe, and the horde roared in unison, charging with renewed fury.
Jenna cursed. "That thing's leading them!"
Marcus gritted his teeth. "Then we cut off the head."
Lila was already moving, weaving through the chaos. She scaled a ruined wall, drawing her dual pistols, her shots ripping through the warlord's rotting guards.
As she closed in, the warlord turned—far too fast. A massive, bony hand lashed out, hurling her through the air. She crashed onto the bridge, blood dripping from her mouth.
"Lila!" Marcus roared, unloading his shotgun into the warlord's chest.
It barely staggered.
The creature raised its axe, ready to cleave Lila in half—
BOOM!
An explosion ripped through the bridge, flames swallowing the warlord and its army. The ground collapsed, dragging hundreds of undead into the abyss.
For a moment, silence.
Then—a deep, guttural growl.
From the fire, the warlord rose, charred but unbroken. It lifted its axe, pointing at Marcus.
"You cannot stop the Black Tide..."
