Chapter 217: AWAKENED WORLD ORGANIZATION

TSK.

Ki Gayoon knew that destroying the System’s Heart wouldn’t be easy, but he also didn’t expect it to be this hard.

But why did he suddenly try to destroy the System’s Heart?

Simple.

Instinct.

Gayoon could tell that the Awakened World Organization’s representatives were there to check South Korea’s System’s Heart.

Of course, there are other System’s Hearts in different parts of the world. The System’s Heart is called differently depending on where you are. But it functions the same— it serves as the guide for all Awakened People.

However, the rest of the world believed that the System’s Heart in South Korea was special.

After all, only South Korea has five natural S-Class Espers.

Moreover, their country also produced two S-Class Guides.

"Gayoon-ah, I know I said the System’s Heart will soon lose its purpose— but that doesn’t mean you can just destroy it, you know?" Kwak Hakja whispered, horrified. "Do you really want to be labeled as a traitor that badly?"

Gayoon would have answered sarcastically, but he had to conjure a concrete wall to block Ryu Sungbin’s fire attack.

"Aigoo," Kwak Hakjae complained. "You kids are fighting again."

Gayoon scoffed. "Ryu Sungbin has to learn how to be patient."

"I don’t think Ryu Sungbin would like to hear that from you of all people, Gayoon-ah."

Gayoon just shrugged, and then he hissed when he felt something "touch" him.

It was like a breeze, but that fucking breeze nullified his ability.

The concrete wall that he created collapsed on its own at the same time Ryu Sungbin’s fireballs vanished in thin air.

And then...

"Gayoon, you’re still as reckless as I remember."

White hair, red eyes, baby face.

17, the official #1 Esper in the world, literally stood between Gayoon and Ryu Sungbin.

When did this baby face bastard get this close?

Tsk.

"Are you upset that your fight with Sungbin was interrupted again?" 17 asked in English, smiling while putting his hands behind his back. This bastard had a baby face, but he would often act like an old man. "As much as I love to watch South Korea’s strongest Espers fighting, I’m afraid we don’t have time for that."

"Whatever."

Gayoon didn’t bother speaking in English because he knew 17 could understand him anyway.

The bastard couldn’t speak Korean, but he could understand the language.

"It’s been a while, Mr. Ki."

Tsk.

The one who greeted Gayoon in perfect Korean was Hayoung Cheon (a Korean born and raised in Australia).

She’s an executive in the Awakened World Organization.

And the short, middle-aged man with a fox-looking face standing next to Hayoung Cheon would be ’Professor J.’

That’s the younger brother of the Awakened World Organization. He doesn’t have an official title in the organization, but only ignorant people would get offended that they sent a "nobody."

Gayoon wasn’t ignorant, though.

He didn’t care about politics, but that didn’t mean he was clueless.

There are rumors that Professor J is actually the true leader of the Awakened World Organization.

"Mr. Ki, it’s an honor to meet you again," Professor J said, speaking in fluent Korean. It was rumored that Professor J had the ability that allowed him to learn different languages quickly— even "monster languages," apparently. "The last time we saw each other was when you punched my brother in the face."

Gayoon avoided Professor J’s gaze. "I don’t remember."

That was a lie.

Back when Gayoon destroyed the Facility, the Awakened World Organization President personally went to South Korea to "help" the country recover.

He was young and rebellious back then, so he pretty much pissed off the AWO representatives back then, and he almost got their country kicked out from the list of countries that were under the protection of the organization.

"Miss Cheon, Professor J, Esper 17, welcome to South Korea," Kwak Hakjae said cheerfully, patting Gayoon’s back before standing in front of him. "I apologize for Esper Ki Gayoon and Esper Ryu Sungbin’s childish behavior."

"It’s alright since it’s fun to see kids fight," 17 said, smiling. "But I can’t stay here for long, so can we start the meeting already?"

"Of course, sir," Kwak Hakjae said cheerfully. "Please follow me."

"Not you," Gayoon said, pointing at Ryu Sungbin. "Just wait here. We will only cooperate with the representatives of the Awakened World Organization. If you insist on coming, then the meeting won’t happen."

Ryu Sungbin shot Gayoon a cold look.

But when 17, Hayoung Cheon, and Professor J all turned to Ryu Sungbin with an expectant look on their faces, Ryu Sungbin pressed his lips together into a thin line.

Heh.

"Alright, I’ll wait here," Ryu Sungbin said, and then he glared at Gayoon. "No funny business, Ki Gayoon."

Gayoon shrugged unapologetically. "I do what I want."

"SO, WHY did you try to destroy the System’s Heart, Gayoon?"

Tsk.

The grand conference room in the Esper Association building was big, and the long table was enough for at least 20 people.

So, Ki Gayoon couldn’t understand why 17 was sitting close to him.

And this chatterbox keeps talking to me.

"I know that you weren’t playing a prank," 17 said, smiling, while scooting his chair closer to Gayoon. "You were serious about destroying the System’s Heart. Tell me why. I’m really, really curious."

Gayoon scooted his chair away from 17. "No English please," he lied with a straight face. He could understand and speak English, but 17 didn’t need to know that. "Korean only."

17 burst out laughing.

And, then...

"Will you answer my questions properly if I speak in Korean?"

What the...?

17’s fluent Korean shocked Gayoon.

I thought this baby-faced bastard only speaks English!

"It’s thanks to me," Hayoung Cheon said proudly. "I taught Hangul to 17. And I did well, didn’t I?"

"Miss Cheon is a good teacher," 17 said, smiling while nodding. Then he closed the gap between him and Gayoon again. "Look, Gayoon. I’m talking to you in Korean now. So, please answer my questions properly."

That sounded lightheartedly.

But Gayoon could feel it.

The air around 17 suddenly changed.

If I don’t give him a proper answer, this baby-faced bastard will sucker punch me— and my instinct tells me I won’t be able to avoid it.

Oh, well.

Hakjae Hyung-nim and I prepared for this moment anyway.

"The System’s Heart will be a thing of the past soon," Gayoon said, smirking to pique 17’s interest even more. "The age of personal Status Windows is here."

ARE YOU being for real right now?

Yuno was annoyed with what greeted him as soon as he opened his eyes: a familiar white room.

No, it wasn’t just "familiar."

This looks exactly like my old room in the Lab.

Even his old sketchbook and drawing materials were there.

I almost thought I went back to the past.

Only if the person standing in front of him didn’t look as old as he remembered.

"Feeling nostalgic, Noh Yihun?"

Yuno clicked his tongue. "You’re still alive, Ni-ki?"

It was his "sibling" who was obsessed with ’Father.’

And this bastard wants me dead— then and now.
