Chapter 170: LOVERS’ SPAT

YUNO smiled when he saw Kwon Hojun eating a cup of ramen at the corner when he arrived at HoneyMoon Convenience Store.

It’s been a while since I saw him.

"Is that your friend?" Kang Dabin asked, patting Yuno’s shoulder. "Then go ahead and talk to him. I’ll just say ’hi’ to Sir Yang Dal-sik-nim."

Oh, right.

’Grandpa Maknae’ was an A-Class Esper working at HoneyMoon Convenience Store as a part-timer.

It’s Grandpa Maknae’s shift right now, huh?

Yuno bowed his head when he made eye contact with Yang Dal-sik, and the old gentleman smiled at him in response.

"Hyung, you’re acquianted with Grandpa Maknae?"

"Sir Yang Dal-sik-nim is a living legend. He’s just as legendary as the original Top 5 Espers," Kang Dabin said as if he was a fanboy talking about his idol. "If you’re an Esper who doesn’t respect your seniors, then you’re trash."

Oh.

"Dabin Hyung, I respect you even more now."

"Thank you," Kang Dabin said, laughing. And then he gently pushed him forward. "Don’t make your friend wait longer."

Yuno just nodded, then he looked at Yang Dal-sik again and bowed towards their legendary "maknae."

Sajangnim is also amazing for recruiting such a legend to work part-time here.

Yang Dal-sik smiled as if he was confused, but easily got distracted when Kang Dabin greeted him in a loud and respectful voice while giving a 90-degree bow.

Anyway, Kang Dabin was so loud that Kwon Hojun was startled.

The kid almost spilled his ramen.

Pfft.

"Hey, be careful," Yuno said, handing Kwon Hojun the wet wipes that he pulled out from his Inventory. "Here."

Kwon Hojun’s face lit up when he saw Yuno. "Hyung! I’ve missed you."

"Me, too, brat," Yuno said, taking the seat across from the kid. "Why are you eating ramen here? You should have waited for me. This hyung will treat you to a nice early dinner."

"I want to see where you work, Hyung."

"Huh?"

Kwon Hojun smirked teasingly. "Hyung, I was right. You’re working at an adult shop."

Aigoo.

Yuno’s face turned red from embarrassment, but he remained poker-faced. "We’re not an adult shop— we’re just a normal convenience store."

I already said I’d die on this hill, okay?

Kwon Hojun suddenly burst out laughing. "Hyung, I wasn’t allowed to step foot in this place when I was a minor. What kind of convenience store doesn’t allow minors inside?"

Aigoo.

To be fair, underaged Awakened People were welcomed at HoneyMoon Convenience Store since most of their items were for Guides and Espers.

But underaged Civilians weren’t allowed there.

Civilians aren’t allowed to buy items that are only for Awakened People, though. The HoneyMoon Condom and HoneyMoon Lube were only sold to Guides and Espers.

"Now that I’m twenty years old, I’m finally allowed here," Kwon Hojun said, still teasing Yuno. "Hyung, selling adult stuff is honest work." The brat even gave Yuno a thumbs up. "I respect you a lot."

Yuno covered his face with his hands, embarrassed to death.

This is why I don’t want to admit that HoneyMoon is an adult store!

"Hyung, are you embarrassed?"

"Shut up, kid."

Kwon Hojun laughed again, louder this time.

Tsk.

This brat, really...

Yuno removed his hands from his face after putting back his poker face on, and then he quickly changed the topic. "So, why did you want to see me?"

"Hyung, you’ve gotten famous since you became Esper Ki Gayoon-nim’s Guide."

"You mean infamous."

"It doesn’t matter. Being a Top 5 Esper’s Exclusive Guide means you’re earning more money now, right?"

Oh.

"Hyung, my parents were really thrilled when they saw the news about you officially becoming a member of the new Top 5 Guides," Kwon Hojun said, smiling bitterly. "They were so thrilled that they ended up borrowing money from sketchy people."

Yuno knitted his eyebrows. "But why would they need to borrow money? I’ve never failed sending money to your parents, Hojun-ah."

Yes, the reason Yuno never got rich was because he would send his money to four different families every month.

To Lee Taesan’s family.

To Im Sung’s family.

To Do Nana’s family.

To Kwon Jungho’s family.

Those were the four people who died after confessing their love to Yuno.

He felt responsible for those people’s deaths, so he asked Moon Noa to look for their families.

And when he found them, he started supporting them with the money that he earned.

Lee Taesan’s family actually refused at first, but they eventually accepted after Lee Taesan’s mother got sick, they finally agreed to take the money.

Im Sung’s parents accepted the money because they had other kids to support.

Do Nana’s only family member left was her sister, and so Yuno had been supporting Do Yuna all this time.

Sajangnim said I got lucky that those three families aren’t greedy.

However, his luck ended when he met Kwon Hojun’s parents.

Kwon Hojun is the younger brother of Kwon Jungho— a Civilian, and the last person who died after confessing to me.

"Hyung, the problem is you send too much money," Kwon Hojun said, sighing while shaking his head. "Of course, I’m grateful that you’ve been supporting us for the last four years. But my parents are greedy people. No matter how much money you send them, it’s never enough. And it will never be enough because they’re using it to fund their gambling addiction."

"What? Gambling?"

"Yes, so please stop sending them money."

"How can I do that—"

"Hyung, I’ve been telling you from the start— my brother’s death wasn’t your fault," Kwon Hojun said firmly. "You have to forgive yourself for something that happened out of your control, and you can start by cutting ties with my family."

"I can’t do that, Hojun-ah."

"I’m already an adult, Hyung. So, I’m thinking of quitting school and just work."

"Hey, you have to study."

"I’m not smart, Hyung. You’re just wasting money by paying for my expensive tuition fee."

"Hojun-ah, I’ll deal with your parents. Don’t drop out of school."

"No, I’m still dropping out of school," Kwon Hojun said firmly. "Hyung, you always preach about letting people exercise their free will. Why are you forcing me to stay in school when I don’t want to? I’m an adult already. I know what I want to do."

Aigoo.

Now Yuno couldn’t say anything back.

This is why kids these days are so freaking scary.

"Hyung, I have no evidence, but I think my parents mentioned your name when they borrowed money from the sketchy people I saw at our house," Kwon Hojun said worriedly. "What if those people come after you, Hyung?"

"Are those sketchy people ’loan sharks?’"

Yes, even after the apocalypse, loan sharks still survived in the new world.

In fact, loan sharks had been thriving since then because of how expensive it was to live in a world where monsters started appearing left and right.

If you’re unlucky, your livelihood would disappear with just one Dungeon Break.

"Those people were dressed neatly, and they didn’t act like the stereotypical gangsters, but I have a feeling that they might be loan sharks," Kwon Hojun said hesitantly. "And if they’re brave enough to go after Esper Ki Gayoon-nim’s Guide, then isn’t it safe to assume that they could be big shots in the underworld?" frёeωebɳovel.com

Yuno scoffed. "Even if they turn out to be big shots in the underworld, they’ll die if they lay a hand on me."

"Oh, right. Esper Ki Gayoon-nim is a gangster, too."

"Pfft!"

Yuno whipped his head in the counter’s direction.

Kang Dabin and Yang Dal-sik were holding back their laughter— so they clearly heard what Kwon Hojun said.

Crap.

I forgot that those two are high-ranking Espers with sharp hearing.

Oh, well.

Grandpa Maknae already knew about my situation, so I just have to stop Dabin Hyung from snitching.

"Hyung?"

Yuno turned to Kwon Hojun. "Let’s have dinner, Hojun-ah."

Kwon Hojun smiled and nodded. "Okay, Hyung."

***

"DID YOU have a nice date with a younger man?"

Aigoo.

Yuno already suspected that Ki Gayoon came to pick him up when Kang Dabin volunteered to drive Kwon Hojun home after their dinner.

So, Dabin Hyung is a snitch.

To be fair, Kang Dabin was Ki Gayoon’s friend and subordinate.

I shouldn’t be surprised that Dabin Hyung’s loyalty lies with Gayoon Hyung.

"Hello, Ahjuhyung," Yuno greeted Ki Gayoon because he had manners and shit. "Have you had dinner yet?"

Ki Gayoon, who was leaning against his car, crossed his arms over his chest. "Why are you upset? If I remember correctly, I should be the one getting upset here."

Right.

Hyung was shocked when he found out I was using my life force to guide them.

Ki Gayoon had the right to be upset.

But Yuno had the right to feel the same.

"Is it because I left the house without telling you?" Ki Gayoon asked sternly. "It couldn’t be helped. I didn’t want to wake you when you needed rest. And I had no intention of bringing you to a dangerous place."

Right.

While having dinner earlier, Yuno kept checking his phone to see what was going on.

Every time he refreshed, the articles kept showing bad news.

Gayoon Hyung must have been busy all day.

"Let’s go home," Ki Gayoon said, standing up properly before opening the door to the passenger side of the car. "Let’s continue our fight at home."

Aigoo.

I don’t have the energy to fight.

"Can’t we just make up now, Hyung?"

Ki Gayoon raised an eyebrow. "You’re not upset anymore?"

"Well, you’re right when you said you should be the one getting more upset."

"Damn right."

"But that doesn’t mean you’ll stop caring about me, right?"

Ki Gayoon paused for a moment, and then he sighed while shaking his head. "This is why they say you lose when you’re the one who fell harder."

"Yes, and Hyung said I can use you any way I want, right?"

Yep, Yuno was being so shameless.

But, thankfully, Ki Gayoon looked like he didn’t mind.

Hyung and I need to talk about the main issue again later, but I need to tell him about the loan sharks. Hopefully, Dabin Hyung hasn’t already told Gayoon Hyung about it yet.

"What do you need me for this time?"

"I haven’t verified it yet, but I think I’ve become a target of some big shots in the underworld," Yuno said. And, judging by Ki Gayoon’s surprised face, it seemed like Kang Dabin didn’t snitch about that part. "To be precise, there might be loan sharks after my throat."

"Who the fuck would dare to target my wife?" Ki Gayoon said, frowning. "Give me their names, Noh Yuno— I’ll get rid of those bastards."

So, I’m the wife...
