Chapter 154: NOH YIHUN (10)

<"GUIDES are not sex slaves! If the government, the Esper Association, and the National Guide Bureau continue turning a blind eye to the abuse that Guides go through, then we will stop lending our power to Espers! You, Espers, can all go insane for all we care!">

Yihun smiled after watching Im Sung’s live broadcast.

Of course, it wasn’t easy getting to that point.

Lee Hansol, Nam Sori, and the rebel group called the ’Rogue Clan’ suppressed the bad Espers in the Death Camp.

Hansol Hyung and Sori-ya’s group is impressive.

So impressive that Yihun wondered how those Espers managed to hide their existence from the Esper Association.

But Espers’ business isn’t my business, so I didn’t ask.

The only important thing was they were able to take over the Death Camp two months.

Yes, it took that long because the bad Espers from other Danger Zones attacked them. Obviously, those bastards wanted to stop them from exposing the truth to the public.

But the Rogue Clan was amazing.

The group managed to suppress the attackers and deal with the Dungeon Breaks.

And, now, the revolt finally ended in their favor.

It was the Guides’ turn to fight.

Thanks to Nam Sori’s hacking ability, they managed to use major broadcasting stations and online channels for their live protest.

The Guides— from all the Danger Zones that they rescued— joined the rally.

And it was a success.

Yihun was satisfied with the result of their hard work.

***

AFTER ANOTHER month, majority of all the Guides in the country— from different classes— joined the protest.

A street protest, to be precise.

The Guides who joined the rally filled the major streets in Seoul.

And then they protested in front of the National Guide Bureau.

It happened for two weeks.

Then, at the third week of the protest, thousands of Civilians had finally joined the rally.

That was when the government and all the branches involved finally responded.

Moon Noa?

Yihun was surprised when the National Guide Bureau appointed Moon Noa— the sole S-Class Guide in South Korea— as the new chief.

As far as he remembered, Moon Noa was a chaebol.

The Moonsung Group had dominated their country’s economy— before and after the apocalypse.

In short, Moon Noa was filthy rich.

I’m not sure about Moon Noa-nim’s character, but I hope he’s empathetic enough to fight for Guide rights.

"Yihun-ah!"

Hmm?

Yihun was resting in his room.

To be honest, he was mostly bedridden during the entire rebellion.

After all, his blood was the key to snap the Guides from being brainwashed.

I’m fine, though— I just became lethargic as a result.

"Hello, Sung Hyung," Yihun greeted the Esper. He tried to get up and bow, but Im Sung gently pushed him down the bed. "I’m sorry I can’t greet you properly, Hyung."

"No, it’s alright. You need to rest," Im Sung said while sitting on the chair next to Yihun’s bed. "How are you feeling, Yihun-ah?"

"I’m fine, Hyung. Thanks for asking."

"No, it’s not something you should thank me for. It’s only natural for me to care about the person I like."

Aigoo.

So, Hyung was serious about his confession last time.

"Yihun-ah, I don’t want you to misunderstand. When I said I like you, I meant it in a romantic way," Im Sung said. He looked determined, but his entire face was red. "So, please don’t ignore my confession."

Confession, huh?

Yihun was reminded by Lee Taesan’s confession.

It didn’t fail to break his heart again.

I didn’t even get the chance to attend Taesan Hyung’s funeral.

"Yihun-ah?"

"I didn’t ignore your confession, Hyung," Yihun said in a serious and solemn voice. "I just don’t know how to reject you gently."

Im Sung looked shocked at first, and then he let out a sad laugh. "You just did, Yihun-ah."

"I’m sorry, Hyung. I appreciate your feelings for me, but I can’t reciprocate it."

Maybe it was because Yihun was still young, but he hadn’t felt any attraction towards other people.

He didn’t know if he was attracted to girls or boys.

Nobody had gotten his interest yet.

Or maybe I’m aromantic or something?

"Thank you for your sincere response, Yihun-ah," Im Sung said. It was obvious that he was just forcing himself to smile. "Can I still like you?"

"I can’t control your feelings, Hyung. But I hope you know that even if you continue to like me, I will still only see you as a reliable older brother," Yihun said gently. He knew that he was hurting Im Sung’s feelings, but he wanted to be honest with him. "Even so, please know that I will always appreciate you, Hyung."

"YOU’RE LEAVING?" Yihun asked, surprised by the news that Lee Hansol and Nam Sori delivered. "Already?"

"What do you mean by ’already,’ brat?" Lee Hansol asked, laughing while shaking his head. "We’ve worked together for months, Noh Yihun. But since the Esper Association and the National Guide Bureau are sending new officials to run the Death Camp, Sori and I need to leave."

"We just stole other people’s identities, remember? And we’re not registered as Espers," Nam Sori reminded him. "Hansol Hyung and I belong to the Rogue Clan. We need to leave in order to protect our family there."

Right.

The Rogue Clan is an amazing group of unregistered Espers. They might be breaking the law by hiding their power from the government. But they’re doing it in order to keep an eye on people in power.

If it was the Rogue Clan...

"Hyung, Sori-ya, can I commission you if I need to?"

Lee Hansol and Nam Sori looked at each other, and then they turned to Yihun with a smile.

Now Yihun felt a bit awkward.

"We were just waiting for you to ask, Yihun-ah," Lee Hansol said kindly. "We can tell that you’re in a tough position, but we’re not going to force you to share things you’re not yet ready to share with us."

Aww.

"However, please don’t forget that we’re always here for you," Nam Sori said, holding Yihun’s hand. "Yihun-ah, I’ll leave you a small device that you can use to contact me— but you can only use it once, so please use it wisely. If you use it, we’ll assume that you’re in a dangerous situation. So, we’ll come to rescue you with the entire Rogue Clan."

That was a relief to hear, but...

"Sori-ya, Hyung, you might die if you help me, though."

"So what?" Lee Hansol asked casually, and then he patted Yihun’s head. "You risked your life to rescue the Guides here— Guides that Sori and I consider as family. So, if we need to risk our life to rescue this time, we will."

Okay, Yihun almost cried.

I wanted to hear those words the most.

"Don’t hesitate to call us if you need help, Yihun-ah," Nam Sori said, smiling while squeezing Yihun’s hand. "We are your ride and die."

Yihun swallowed the lump in his throat, and then he nodded. "See you later, Hansol Hyung and Sori-ya."

***

JUST THREE days after Lee Hansol and Nam Sori left the Death Camp, Yihun got "kidnapped."

But it wasn’t like he didn’t know who his kidnappers were.

"Welcome back, Yihun-ah."

Yihun frowned when he woke up in the same boring White Room that had served as the "punishment room" for the E-Class Guides.

Yes, I’m back in the Lab.

It was just a plain white room, but it could drive one insane after getting stuck there for days since only daydreaming could ease your boredom there.

Luckily, Yihun was an introvert with a vivid imagination.

Hence, the White Room had never been associated to punishment for Yihun...

... until the moment he woke up there with Yosef Lee and Charles Kang.

I’m really back in this hell, huh?

"We heard all about the good deeds you’ve done while you were in the Death Camp, Yihun-ah," Charles Kang said as if he was proud of Yihun. "You used Crystallization to create blood crystals that were filled with your Mana. And then you fed it to your fellow Guides— purifying the toxins in their bodies."

Tsk.

Was there a spy in the Death Camp?

I didn’t think of that.

"That was amazing, Yihun-ah," Yosef Lee said, and then he pushed Yihun until he was lying down on the bed again. "Now lend us your blood— for research purposes, of course."

Yihun wanted to fight back, but Charles Kang suddenly stabbed his arm with a syringe.

Fuck...

***

"YIHUN-AH, my condolences."

What?

Yihun knitted his eyebrows because of what Jacob had just said.

The two of them were waiting in the Observation Room, the glass walls were still covered with blinds.

Jacob said he had something to show Yihun.

But then the older E-Class Guide said something absurb.

"Condolence for what?"

"Im Sung."

Yihun flinched. "What about Im Sung?" ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

"He’s dead."

Who?

Im Sung?

Yihun clearly understood what Jacob said, but he couldn’t accept it.

How could Im Sung die when the Death Camp was no longer a Death Camp after their rebellion?

It didn’t make sense.

"You’re lying," Yihun said through gritted teeth. "Why are you doing this to me, Hyung?"

Jacob turned around and faced Yihun with a stoic expression. "Im Sung died in a stampede while trying to evacuate Civilians during a Dungeon Break. But he died a hero. Isn’t that a noble death for a Guide like us?"

Yihun clenched his hands, anger rising in his chest.

He was about to curse at Jacob, but the blinds that covered the glass walls in the Observation Room were suddenly lifted.

Now he could see that the arena below them was filled with people.

Familiar people, to be precise.

No— those people are Guides!

To be precise, those were the Guides that Yihun and his group rescued from the different Death Camps that they raided during their rebellion.

"What are they doing here..."

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Yihun wasn’t able to finish his sentence when he heard those gunshots...

... and then the Guides below fell down one by one, the others screaming in horror as they watched their peers get shot.

Yihun’s blood-curdling scream echoed in the Observation Room while he was banging his hands on the glass wall.

"NOOO! STOP IT!"

That was the day Yihun’s mind finally broke.
