Guide Me If You Dare-Chapter 146: NOH YIHUN (2)
Chapter 146: NOH YIHUN (2)
WHEN THE apocalypse happened half a decade ago, South Korea was one of the few countries that didn’t fall completely. Most people all over the world thought it was thanks to the five natural S-Class Espers who awakened on the first day of the apocalypse.
While that was true, Yosef Lee thought differently.
Our country got back on its feet quicker than other countries because we have Kwak Hakjae.
Aka the ’System’s Representative.’
Kwak Hakjae got that title as the first Esper to enter and raid the first ever Gate that appeared in the world.
Yes, he did it alone.
As a reward, Kwak Hakjae received an Appraisal Skill— a skill that gave him the ability to see other people’s class and level.
Aside from that, the lucky man also received an Inventory full of useful things.
One of them was the ’System’s Heart.’
Apparently, the System’s Heart was damaged before it reached their world.
Hence, the Espers who awakened didn’t get the chance to have their own Status Window. It was supposed to help them navigate their newly awakened power.
Fortunately, the System’s Heart could still function as a ’motherboard.’
The government, led by President Moon Nam-il, established the Esper Association and made Kwak Hakjae the president of the new government branch.
Kwak Hakjae then put the System’s Heart in the Esper Association.
The System’s Heart took the form of a giant television monitor.
All Espers who awakened were required by the government to register their awakening to the System’s Heart.
Then, for the first and last time in their lives, the Espers would see a Status Window explaining their ability and additional skills (if there was any). Of course, the government would have a copy of that information.
You can only hide your new skills after the registration, and the government won’t mind as long as you have already registered your main ability. After all, the government understands that it’s necessary for an Esper to hide their skills for their survival.
Anyway, that was the role of the System’s Heart.
After that, Espers would have access to their Inventory— a spatial space where they could hide Items or other stuff that they might need when stuck in a dungeon.
It was a convenient skill.
Hence, many newly awakened Espers would often flock to the Esper Association.
However, the government soon realized that it was inconvenient and risky to gather all the newly awakened Espers in Seoul.
Hence, a year later, Kwak Hakjae managed to invent the ’System Fragments.’
They’re smaller versions of the System’s Heart, aka smaller TV monitors.
Those Fragments had a piece of the System’s Heart, so it worked the same. But, of course, it could only handle a small number of Espers at a time.
That was how branches of the Esper Association were established.
Only Espers who awakened as A-Class and S-Class were required to register in the main branch in Seoul.
And how would one know that they awakened?
Simple.
Red eyes.
Newly awakened people would wake up with red eyes, and they would feel a strong pull towards the System’s Heart of the Fragments— whichever is closer.
A-Class and S-Class Espers would be more drawn to the System’s Heart, though.
But what most people didn’t know was the fact that the System’s Heart didn’t only recognize Espers— it also recognized a class known to a select few as the ’Guides.’
A class that has been kept hidden from the public all this time.
The first S-Class Guide in South Korea awakened a little after the First Generation of Espers— Moon Noa, the grandson of President Moon Nam-il.
A full-blooded chaebol.
Hence, no matter how much Yosef Lee and the others tried to convince Moon Noa to help the Lab, they couldn’t touch him.
Not even President Moon could change his grandson’s mind.
Luckily, there was another Guide who was just as special as Moon Noa.
"That boy is special."
Red hair.
Red lips.
Red clothes.
Red dress.
Song Heejin’s glowing red eyes were glued at the monitor, her long and sharp red nail pointing at the young man who was currently taking the "entrance exam."
Today was the day the new batch of "baby chicks" would enter the Lab.
Yosef Lee and his team worked hard to find more Guides in the country.
Unlike Espers, awakened Guides wouldn’t awaken with red eyes— there would just be changes in their bodies and Mana.
Hence, the new device that Kwak Hakjae and Moon Noa invented was useful.
It was simply called the ’Guiding Scale.’
The new baby chicks would just have to put their hands on a machine that looked like a scanner, and then the machine would read their Mana.
It would then determine their rank.
So far, South Korea only had one S-Class Guide— and that would be Moon Noa.
But there were already a few A-Class, B-Class, C-Class, D-Class, and F-Class Guides. freewёbnoνel.com
It’s the same ranks as the Espers have.
"That’s the boy that was rescued after Esper Ki Gayoon-ssi’s Rampage," Yosef Lee said while looking at the boy that Song Heejin was watching. "I only realized that he awakened as a Guide because the System Fragment that I was carrying with me reacted to him."
That day, he was in the hospital because Ki Gayoon almost killed him when he destroyed the Facility.
And that was how he found Noh Yihun.
The System Fragment that Yosef Lee was carrying— a device that looked similar to an old smartphone— reacted to the child’s Mana.
I remember Noh Yihun-ssi because of his cheeky attitude.
"That child has a strong personality. He reminds me of Noa-ssi a bit," Yosef Lee said, smiling. "I wonder if he’ll be the second S-Class Guide in the country."
Song Heejin chuckled while shaking her head. "That child will fail the exam."
"Whatever do you mean by that?"
"For some reason, the System doesn’t recognize our class."
Yosef Lee’s eyes widened a bit. "That child is an E-Class Guide?"
S-Class.
A-Class.
B-Class.
C-Class.
D-Class.
F-Class.
Those were the ranks that the System had acknowledged so far for both Espers and Guides.
But there wasn’t an E-Class Esper or Guide recorded in the system.
However, that didn’t mean the E-Class didn’t exist.
"We still have a lot of things we need to learn about the E-Class, so I’ll leave the Lab in your capable hands for now, Yosef," Song Heejin said while patting Yosef Lee’s shoulder. "I still need to hide from Ki Gayoon."
Right.
"Your failed little experiment will kill you as soon as he sees you, so you better hide well," Yosef Lee said, chuckling while shaking his head. "As long as I’m here, Ki Gayoon won’t be able to touch me— so don’t worry about the Lab, and just worry about yourself for now, Heejin Noona."

26 STUDENTS.
There were 26 out of 93 new Guides that somehow flunked the test.
And Yihun was one of them.
As expected, his peers looked devastated while they were waiting for the instructor in a small auditorium hall. It looked decent, but it also looked old compared to the other facilities in the Lab.
It’s clear that we have the worst amenities because we’re at the bottom.
Yihun didn’t care about those things, of course.
"Hi," the good-looking and older boy next to Yihun greeted him cheerfully. "My name is Jacob. And you are?"
"Noh Yihun," Yihun answered politely. "You look Korean, but are you perhaps, mixed?"
Jacob blinked as if he was surprised. "They told us we can use English names here if we don’t want to reveal our real name. You didn’t take that option?"
Hmm?
Ah, right.
Yihun barely remembered that part when he registered. "I’m not attached to my name, but I’m not fond of English, so I decided to just use my real name."
Jacob suddenly burst out laughing. "You seem to be a fun person, Yihun-ssi."
"I’m fifteen years old, sir. You may talk informally to me if you’re older."
Maybe it was a Korean culture thing.
But we somehow can tell almost immediately if the other person is older than us.
"Ah, is that so? I’m eighteen years old," Jacob said, immediately switching to informal speech. "You can call me ’hyung,’ then."
"I got it, Jacob Hyung-nim."
Jacob looked like he was about to say something again, but the door suddenly opened.
A familiar ahjussi entered the room.
Ah, it’s the sketchy old man.
"Hello, everyone," Yosef Lee greeted the "class" enthusiastically as soon as he got on the podium. "As you already know, all of you here awakened not as Espers, but as Guides. But since we brought you here abruptly, we didn’t get the chance to explain what Guides are. Not until now, that is."
The ahjussi then started working on the laptop on the table.
A few moments later, all eyes were glued to the projector behind the "teacher."
"First of all, you have to know that Guides are the only people who could stop Espers from their Rampage," Yosef Lee said. "And Guides can do that by having physical contact with the Espers."
"Bullshit."
Yihun only realized that he said that out loud when Yosef Lee turned to him, as well as everyone in the room.
But he was unfazed.
He still shared his opinion since everyone was already looking at him.
"Does it have to be skinship?" Yihun asked bluntly. "Most of us are minors here, sir."
