Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe-Chapter 859: Old Friend
Chapter 859: Old Friend
"It seems the title of ’King’ is handed out far too freely these days," said the aged woman, the leader of the delegation from Greenfield Ridge.
Beside Soner Pitt stood her student, a young man with tousled blond hair that brushed against his cheeks and deep blue eyes that seemed to pierce through the unseen.
His name was Chris Cloud, a Mana Liquefaction Magus from Greenfield Ridge, renowned for his mastery in the School of Divination.
The moment those words left her mentor’s lips, he couldn’t help but grimace ever so slightly.
Damn it, Professor! He cursed inwardly.
Why must you speak ill of the Dark King now of all times?!
Throughout their entire journey to this city, Soner Pitt had consistently ridiculed the Dark King, claiming that Ravenfell had romanticized and placed him on a pedastal, especially since the Grand Magus Tournament was approaching.
No matter how much they romanticize him, Chris thought to himself.
That fact remains that he is the youngest Mana Vortex Magus in the history of this continent—no, of this world!
Oh, Professor... one of these days that tongue is going to get you killed!
How did you even manage to survive to this old age?
While Chris was inwardly cursing the aged lady, the person in question was directing a taunting look at Sabrina Benton.
"Tell me," she said with a smirk. "How many strings did you have to pull to convince the Royal Family to grant this... Contantine the title of King?"
Sabrina shook her head ever so slightly, softly sighing, "Oh, Soner, you’re still as sharp-tongued as ever."
She paused for a moment, swirling the wine in her goblet. Her lips curled into a smirk as she looked straight into Soner’s eyes. "We did not have to pull any strings."
Soner frowned. "What does that mean?"
Sabrina chuckled softly, her eyes gleaming with amusement.
"You see, when people first started calling Adam the Dark King, we honestly expected quite a bit of backlash from the Royal Family. After all, in this glorious Empire, no one could claim the title of King without the Emperor’s approval, right?"
Soner’s frown deepened, her voice dripping with skepticism. "You’re telling me His Majesty did not express any dissatisfaction with Adam suddenly being given the title of King?"
"Huhu, quite the contrary." Sabrina’s eyes flickered with pride.
No matter how much trouble Adam caused her, at the end of the day, he was still a resident of Ravenfell, he was still a student of Saratoga.
That meant he was one of her people!
"When word started to spread about Adam’s new title, the Royal Family sent a delegation to Ravenfell," Sabrina continued.
"We were all bracing for their disapproval, but when they arrived, they came with congratulations instead. They claimed that the title was fitting, as it was clear Adam had earned it through his actions and influence."
All the heads of delegation from the Four Pillars were taken aback by that revelation.
"The Royal Family was so lenient about it?" Edwin asked, his tone filled with surprise.
"Indeed." Sabrina Benton revealed a confident smile. "Things proceeded quite smoothly."
As the Professors from the Four Pillars digested this information, a calm and soothing voice drifted into their ears. "Hoho, would you look at that? It would appear that the Dark King has some admirers in Acryon as well."
The people in the group turned to look at the source of the voice. It was a middle-aged man with silver hair and ocean-blue eyes.
He was a Mana Vortex Magus and the one to lead the delegation from the Baja High Forest. Despite being the same arcane rank as the representatives from the Four Pillars, he looked very much younger.
He was an elf, after all.
Edwin turned to the elf and couldn’t help but ask, "Elrod, do you know something?"
It was none other than Elrod Firvele, the Warden from the Twilight Brotherhood!
He was also Daneli and Atiel’s mentor and an old friend of Berger.
Elrod glanced at Edwin, whom he had just recently met in Ravenfell, and let out a light chuckle, "Maybe, maybe not."
"You..." Edwin grumbled. He found the elf’s carefree disposition quite annoying.
Elrod then turned to Soner Pitt and spoke with a faint smile, but there was a peculiar glint flashing in his eyes.
"I assure you, Lady Pitt, Adam is fully deserving of the title of King. In fact, in a one-on-one battle, he might defeat you before you even have the chance to cast a spell."
The moment Chris Cloud heard those words from the elf, he cursed inwardly.
Damn you, elf!
Why did you have to say that last line? That was completely unnecessary! I just hope...
He turned to his mentor, hoping she wouldn’t take those words seriously. But it was the complete opposite of what he was expecting.
Fuck me... Please, Professor! Please, don’t create a scene here!
Soner Pitt’s eyes narrowed, and she spoke coldly, "Oh? So you think this newly advanced brat can take me down, eh?"
She paused, her words turning colder, "I’ve always known the pointy-eared swines of Baja to be arrogant, but this is the first time I’ve seen one of them praise a human. Tell me, Lord Firvele... are you looking down on me?"
Elrod wasn’t intimidated in the least. Instead, he calmly smiled, "Lady Pitt, you misunderstand me. I’m not underestimating you."
He then scanned all the representatives of the Four Pillars before adding, "Or any of you for that matter."
The elf paused, letting the suspense hang in the air, before speaking words that sent a chill through the other Mana Vortex Magi.
"He’d defeat each and every one of you in a single fight. His battle prowess... is just that tyrannical."
Elrod’s words had the potential to ignite a fierce quarrel among the Magi in the group. Sensing the tension, Sabrina Benton quickly changed the conversation in a different direction.
"Lord Firvele, do you share some history with Adam?" She asked, a curious glint in her eyes. "From the way you speak of him, it almost sounds like you’ve known him for quite some time."
Elrod let out a light chuckle. "Yes, indeed, Lady Benton. I’ve known Adam for quite some time now... long before the world started calling him the Dark King."
He paused for a moment to ponder. "Hmm, let’s see... it must be around twenty years now? Yes, I first met him when he was just a Mana Foundation Magus, still green, still learning the basics of Herbalism from an old friend in the Southern Federation."
Elrod’s lips curled into a proud smile as he added, "He has certainly come a long way, hasn’t he?"
