Since there had been quite a lot of Zombie Lord Kills and it had been quite some time since the raid against the Lord Territories had started, killing new Zombie Lords no longer attracted too much attention.

At this point, with multiple Clans working together, it was already quite normal to win against the Zombie Lords. Though it may not happen weekly, they would surely see a Zombie Lord Kill every month.

After all, they had already learned their lesson. They were aware of what happened to the area where the Zombie Lord roamed outside its chamber.

No one wanted to have a Zombie Lord becoming a field boss ever again, so everyone was making sure that they got to kill it if they ever entered their chamber.

[ Ava: Congratulations, Raze… Keep it up… By the way, do you think those nasty Vampires still exist? I have bought several silver weapons but I have never seen them just yet…. I'm really curious about them. Are they handsome? ]

[ Hall: Not really. They've been around since the Wild Shelters or Necromancers appeared. Just rare. And deadly. ]

[ Ryan: Well, if anyone's got spare medkits, my group's running low. Trading fresh meat or ammo. They're in the Marketplace under my alias, Cold Stone. ]

[ Hall: What kind of meat do you want? ]

[ Ryan: What? Do you have different types? Can you give me a clean boar? No mutations, no zombie virus. Just good old pork!

The conversations continued, and Shane was no longer bothered to read all of them. These Survivors seemed to really have plenty of time staying in the chat which was probably the reason why many of them weren't leveling up fast.

At this time, Shane finally received the message that he was waiting for…

However, before that, he immediately ordered everyone else to help the group outside to deal with the remaining Zombies.

"I'll take care of it, Shane." Raze said as she soon left the Zombie Lord's Chamber with Shenlong and the others.

Shane wasn't mad after seeing that he could only receive 3 out of 5 possible rewards he could get. Well, he understood this assessment because he didn't solo the Zombie Lords and required the assistance of the others to kill it.

Nonetheless, he still completed the mission.

As for the rewards he could get, it must be remembered that the rewards listed were Void-Forged Ascension, Unique Skill: Void Hunter's Prowess, Legendary Weapon: Abyssal Fang, Voidwalker's Title, and finally, Resource Cache.

The moment he finalized his choices, the air around him distorted, as if reality itself was broken as he entered some sort of strange phenomenon.

However, the confusion only lasted for a moment as he suddenly started feeling pain!

It started in his bones.

A deep, resonating ache spread through his skeleton!

"Aah!"

It felt as if there was a molten metal being poured into his marrow.

Needless to say, the Void-Forged Ascension had started, and nothing could have eased his pain!

His muscles twisted and reforged themselves, his fibers started snapping and regenerating in rapid succession.

'This... is too… painful!' Even if he had experienced other ascensions before, he didn't remember them being this painful!

At this point, Shane's veins darkened as he felt some mysterious force, perhaps the void energy beneath his skin.

'That's just 12%?! Why is it so low?!' Shane was shocked as he felt that it should've been more than 50% already.

Shane gritted his teeth as there was nothing he could do but endure this…

He couldn't even connect to Cloud as if he had entered a different dimension.

Soon, his vision started flickering between normal sight and an eerie voidscape like the night sky.

His heartbeat then slowed as he felt that the surroundings started feeling incorporeal.

Then, it was followed by a burning in his lungs.

It felt as if he was flushing out any toxins in his body!

Indeed, his breath fastened as his respiratory system adapted, filtering toxins effortlessly and his cells felt as if it was now capable of extracting oxygen from even the thinnest air.

Of course, it might just be due to the current transformation but he would have to confirm this later with Cloud's help.

Soon, a cold, alien sensation crawled up his throat…

'It this the Voidwalker thing? Can I really breathe in a vacuum if needed?' Shane was unsure but he was definitely excited despite the pain.

His skin hardened, not like armor, but he felt that it was now resistant to heat, cold, and corrosion.

Then—his mind expanded. It was a strange sensation.

'So there's an integration for this skill too.' Shane thought since other skills didn't need any integration to process.

Just like that, a wave of awareness crashed into him.

Suddenly, he could sense spatial distortions due to his transformation… He also started feeling the fabric of reality like a second skin.

His reflexes sharpened to a higher level and he knew that his instincts had also improved.

'I'm almost there… Just a few more.' Shane thought as he saw the notification from the system. He wasn't sure how much time had already passed but seeing that only 11% was left, he knew that it would be very long before he could finally escape this painful transformation.

However, he didn't know that the final wave of pain was the worst.

"Aahh!"

It felt as if his DNA itself was being rewritten!

However, his system started notifying him about his lifespan stretching beyond human limits!

Shane's eyes lit up after seeing this. He was certainly in pain but seeing such notifications would surely lift his mood! Even if it was painful, if this could allow him to live longer, then he would endure it!

'I can do this...' Shane told himself as he gritted his teeth.
