Chapter 150: The comfort

The soft amber glow of the streetlamps spilled across the quiet park path as Elize and Ravene strolled leisurely.

The distant chirping of insects mixed with the occasional rustle of leaves in the wind.

In their hands, they had half-finished cans of beer as they walked toward the bench where Brandon lay.

Ravene took a slow sip of her beer and tilted her head looking at him softly "He looks cute, doesn’t he?"

Elize, standing beside her nodded her head "He indeed looks cute."

They stood in silence for a while, drinking the beer.

Then Elize lifted her can again, took a drink, and let the carbonation slide down her throat before exhaling slowly, "By the way, I told Kael about everything."

Ravene blinked in confusion "Everything?"

Elize gave a small nod, "Yeah... about Marzella. The experiments. How she died. The truth behind how he got his powers."

"Huh?" Ravene turned sharply and grabbed Elize’s wrist, forcing her to look her in the eye.

"What the hell? Why would you tell him that?"

Ravene’s voice rose in anger "Now he’s going to think he’s just some... experiment! A damn test subject! You- are you an idiot?"

Elize glanced down at Brandon again, "He’s a grown-up now, Ravene. Maybe still young, but old enough to face truths. He deserved to know who he is. Where he come from. About his mother. About everything."

Ravene’s eyes narrowed and her jaw clenched in frustration "No. He doesn’t need to know. Do you even realize what you’ve done?"

Elize frowned slightly "He’s stronger than you think."

"That’s not the point!" Ravene snapped, stepping back and running a hand through her hair.

"You know how long I’ve worked to protect him from this very pain. The doubt. The identity crisis. The self-loathing that comes when you think you were made... not born."

Elize looked away "He isn’t a mistake. Neither was Marzella’s choice. What she did... it was out of desperation, yes. Out of obsession. But also out of love."

"You think he’ll see it that way?" Ravene’s voice dripped with disbelief.

"You think he’ll hear ’Your mother was trying to create a male who can use ether and you are the test subject for her human trials’ and think, ’Wow, I feel so loved?’"

She pointed toward Brandon’s sleeping body "That boy already has the weight of the world on his shoulders, Elize. Now you’ve given him even more worries."

Elize’s shoulders drooped slightly. "I couldn’t keep lying anymore. He’s surrounded by people who know more about him than he does. You think that secret could’ve lasted forever?"

Ravene was silent for a moment "I would’ve rather he hated us for hiding it... later, than him breaking now."

The gentle breeze returned, rustling through the trees and Elize stayed silent.

Ravene finally looked down, shaking her head slowly "If he starts to spiral because of this, I swear-"

"He won’t," Elize interrupted gently. "He won’t spiral. And if he did, I will there to comfort him."

Ravene took a deep breath to steady her thoughts and looked at Brandon.

After a long moment, she took a slow sip of her beer and sighed.

"Come on, let’s go back to home."

Throwing the beer bottles in the trash can, they walked to Brandon.

Ravene slowly crouched beside him and thought of taking him in her arms like a princess.

As she moved her hands over his shoulders and tried to pick him up, the motion caused his eyelashes to tremble.

He slowly blinked and looked up at Ravene’s face which was silhoutted by the lamp’s light "Aunt Rave..."

She smiled dryly "Kael."

Elize leaned down and patted his head gently "Let’s go home."

Rubbing his eyes, he slowly stood up "Mm... okay."

They walked side by side through the night.

Brandon walked in the middle, still half leaning into Ravene, who kept her arm securely around him.

Elize kept a gentle pace beside them, occasionally glancing up at the moon.

The breeze was cool, brushing past them, stirring Brandon’s shirt.

"Did I sleep long?" Brandon asked with a low yawn.

"Long enough to make us drink without you," Ravene replied with a chuckle.

Brandon raised an eyebrow sleepily. "You guys drank?"

"A bit, Just beer. Nothing heavy. It’s been a long day."

"Did something happen?" he asked, blinking up at her Elize.

Ravene and Elize exchanged a glance over his head.

With a smile, Elize replied "Not really. Just... had a little chat."

They reached the gate, and Elize opened it quietly. The three of them stepped into the small yard and quickly entered the house.

Elize stepped out of her shoes and placed them neatly beside the shoe rack before glancing back at Brandon.

Her fingers reached for his hand "Are you going to sleep now, dear?" she asked softly, brushing her thumb over his palm.

Brandon gave a sleepy nod, eyes half-lidded and his body is still heavy from the nap at the park.

"Then let’s sleep together..." Elize said gently, pulling his hand as she guided him down the hallway.

He reached out with his free arm, looping it around Ravene’s waist and pulling her closer, "Yeah... let’s all sleep together."

Ravene looked down at him, a fond smile spreading over her lips and her eyes softened "Hmm..." she replied, reaching up to ruffle his hair before letting her arm slide around his back.

Together, the three of them entered Elize’s bedroom.

Brandon let go of them and sat on the edge of the bed for a moment, rubbing his face as he yawned.

Then, slowly, he crawled up onto the bed, turning and sinking into the softness with a content exhale.

Ravene followed next, slipping in beside him on the left, her long legs brushing gently against his.

Elize circled to the other side and lay down behind him, the bed shifting slightly with her weight.

They moved closer, their bodies instinctively gravitating toward him.

Elize pulled the quilt up, tucking them all beneath it.

Brandon shifted slightly, lying on his side with his back to Elize.

From behind, Elize wrapped her arms gently around him and her chin came to rest lightly against his shoulder "Is it comfortable, Kael?"

Brandon nodded faintly, his body relaxing more with every second.

"Mm, It’s nice..."

From the front, Ravene reached out and cradled his face with one hand, her thumb brushing lightly against his cheek.

She leaned in, her breath brushing against his lips, and whispered, "Good night, Kael."

Then, without hesitation, she pressed a soft kiss to his lips.

Elize, still holding him from behind, gave an amused hum. "Stealing kisses while I’m right here, Ravene?"

Ravene however, didn’t mind her words and continued sucking on his lips and he quietly reciprocated the kiss.

Elize’s eyes quivered as she saw Brandon moving even closer to Ravene, hugging her in his arms.

Her hand curled under the quilt as she saw them making out and she realized that he is still gravitating towards Ravene.

She just sighed and closed her eyes to sleep.
