Freedom Jumper-Chapter 152: Spies
Chapter 152 - Spies
Different sized shoes splattered against the wet ground as the rain began to pour even harder onto the battlefield. From outside the boundary, chaos was occurring as the professors and assistants battled with their lives on the line to keep the children safe.
Not everyone survived, and not every enemy spy had been defeated – resulting in their wounded bodies trudging through the dark forest with cloth bandages actively being wrapped around their wounds.

One thing was for certain, they had a target.
A boy who would grow up to be a powerful and influential figure – halting the kingdom from achieving their dream of salvation.
...
"Elijah! I see people behind us!" Lith loudly whispered while staring at a brown stake with a pink triangle flag being hit with dense rain and powerful gusts of wind.
Something was certain, this storm had evolved into something unnatural. Elijah had assumed it was just part of this world now. After all, the integration of mana into the world had created the Crosstree jungle that outgrew their ability to stand proud and tall. Similarly, the mountain ranges that surrounded Astraea came about so dramatically. The impact hadn't made the steep mountain cliffs as tall as they were, but the exuberant amount of tectonic plate shifting.
Extreme was the new normal with this world Elijah had found himself in, and to be honest, parts of it were very enjoyable...
"What colors are they?"
"I-I don't know. I see two people dressed in all black clothing... And... It looks like they are limping while covering themselves in bandages." Lith said while using his hands as binoculars.
With both of them being within the high branches of a tall tree, Lith was able to see through the slightest cracks of visibility with his ocular eyes – whilst Elijah simply stared into the dark at a pink flag being drenched in rainfall.
This flag was in a similar looking area compared to their own, just without the creek and cliffside. However, the open area it sat in made up for it being much higher in elevation than the green flag. The dense amount of trees were just barely able to keep it hidden while the flat mound at the top was completely empty, a similar dirt mound.
"That doesn't make any sense. Are you sure?" Elijah asked, a worried expression grew on his face after turning his head to try and see into the distant darkness.
"Hold on, I have to wait for lightning to see them better again."
BANG!
A strike of lightning placed itself just 30 feet to the right of them, disintegrating all of the leaves of the tree into complete nothingness while scaring both Elijah and Lith into submission.
Lith's ability quickly deactivated after finally seeing the figure dressed in black.
Blood was evidently seeping from his right and left arm, a long and deep cut that likely went from the top of his body, to his ankles. Gripped in his hand was a white cloth bandage being desperately wrapped around his body in an attempt to stop the bleeding. Finally, tucked into his belt was a black curved and spiked blade with a red edge that was only seeable in light.
"Elijah... These people are here to kill us. We-we have to run! We have to get out of here!" Lith began to show emotions of fear and nervousness. The wet black hair on his head was now covering his hazel eyes, and made Elijah think the boy was right.
Despite the truth of what Lith had said, Elijah has someone here he cares about. "Stay here. There are tons of professors here and even the Vice-President. We still have a chance..."
Elijah slowly floated down onto the muddy ground, while wiping his face with his hands. Truly, he was having trouble processing this as he had not seen any of the two men Lith had seen. It would make sense if the different void beasts had sensed his presence.
But... These people dressed in all black could truly be spies!
So why?
Suddenly, another strike of lightning not too far away illuminated the close area to Elijah, giving him sight to a black figure that created a shadow against a large green bush. However, Lith had said there were two, which begged the question of where the likely intruder had run off to.
But... For now, Elijah did not care. If something truly terrible has happened, nobody would be keeping their eyes on him, which would give him freedom to use the full extent of his abilities. For now, Elijah would not reveal them, but most definitely within the Academy.
Elijah's feet picked off the ground, and began following the visual trail he had left for himself.
Then, within a second of illumination by a massive set of lightning bolts, Elijah flew almost instantly toward the black figure – grabbing his knife and forcing his neck against the trunk of the tree with his arm.
"Who are you!" Elijah began to interrogate the person who had revealed himself as a man only to hear a hoarse voice of a person on the brink of death.
"Your... Enemy..."
BANG!
A strike of lightning illuminated his gray and blue flesh, something not akin to a human whatsoever, but a completely different species.
From behind, light footsteps were heard against the moist and leaf-filled floor, which gave Elijah the idea that the second man Lith had seen was coming after him.
"BEHIND YOU!"
Bam!
The entire time since Elijah had heard the running footsteps, he had begun to gather mana within his arms and fists – concentrating it in an effort to dull the magnitude of what he had just seen with his deep blue eyes.
In a matter of seconds, Elijah saw a straight black blade with a very pointed and long tip be thrusted into the tree. All the while, his fist had entered the man's stomach, causing immediate and severe damage to his internal organs.
"H-how..."
Again, a lightning strike that he had seen with his very own eyes shook the ground not even ten feet away from him, while also revealing the gray and blue skin that surrounded his eyes.
After looking closer, the face structure seemed to be slightly different, as if adapted to a different part of the world. Instead of a square structured face, the zygomatic bones protruded far more than normal, which created a skull with a lot more forward growth than humanly possible. Also, when pulling back the hood the man wore, pointed ears were revealed.
"E-elf?" In Elijah's English language, he spoke the word elf as he did not know the name for elf in the Kotun language.
"Seems like there is far more to be revealed about this world..."
BANG!
Another lightning strike set Elijah in motion to return to Lith. Thankfully, the worried boy was still there, and didn't even bother asking him about what he had seen. Instead, he was worried about everyone's safety, the people who did not have the strength to go up against the spies coming into the battleground.
A plan began working itself out in his mind, and instead of playing the game he desperately wanted to win – really to just beat down Jonah's mood, he decided that they would quietly run through the woods while warning everyone possible of the danger, and even protecting the people if it came to that.
