Chapter 353: Chapter 353 Being Hunted

Grace Summers limped her way back to the rented house, feeling utterly vexed.

The place she now lived in was a dilapidated residential building, where even the hallway had no lights.

The house was run-down, a stark contrast to her life back home.

She had thought that following Henry Summers abroad would lead to a better life, only to end up in such dire straits.

The more she thought about it, the angrier she became, and Grace threw anything she could find on the floor to vent her emotions.

Just then, the door was suddenly pushed open from outside, and a disheveled, gaunt, and hunched man walked in.

Seeing the mess scattered all over the floor, Henry Summers burst into rage: "Grace, why did you make such a mess at home? Clean it up now!"

Grace was reluctant, but remembering Henry’s explosive temper, she obediently stood up from the sofa.

She felt extremely wronged, as cleaning the room was always done by a maid before, but now they were so poor they couldn’t even afford one.

After cleaning up, Henry asked, "Where’s the money? Give me some more money."

Grace was about to put some clothes in the washing machine when she heard this, and she couldn’t help but widen her eyes, "Didn’t I just give you two thousand yesterday?"

"Just two thousand? That’s far less than I need even for the petty cash."

"Did you gamble again?" Grace ran over, angrily confronting him.

Henry lowered his head, not looking at her, and said impatiently: "Stop the nonsense. Just give me the money!"

"Where would I get more money? I gave you all I had yesterday!"

Disbelieving, Henry spat rudely and dragged Grace over to search her.

"Ah!"

Grace, frail, felt dizzy from his pulling and fell into the sofa.

She always knew how to leverage her strengths, so nearly all her clothes were white or light-colored.

At that moment, Henry’s dirty hands groped her, and she couldn’t suppress her nausea.

Ever since Henry picked up gambling, all the painstakingly transferred funds from Summers Group were lost.

In the end, having no other choice, he forced her to use her beauty to deceive wealthy men.

The money she tricked out of them wasn’t even hers to spend before he would snatch it away.

She had lived this kind of life for two full years.

Eventually, Henry found a stack of cash in her bag, which just happened to be the severance pay Theodore had given her.

Seeing Henry ogling the money, Grace hastily reached out to snatch it back, "Dad, we need to pay rent and utilities, you can’t take all the money."

But Henry shoved her away, scoffing, "I raised you for over twenty years, and you can’t spare this bit of money for me?"

"Dad..."

"Just this little money? How poorly you manage! Didn’t I tell you to get on their good side more often? Those rich folks would naturally give more if they’re happy. Don’t think you’re still the Miss of Summers Family; without me, you’re nothing."

After saying that, he took the money and left without looking back.

Grace collapsed into the sofa, weakly clutching her chest, a cold sweat breaking on her forehead.

As she stared at the peeling ceiling, her heart was filled with despair, and tears rolled down her cheeks.

The next evening, Henry Summers came back battered and hobbled, looking panicked.

Grace looked at him perplexedly, "What happened?"

"Grace, save me. Someone is after my life," Henry locked the door anxiously and grabbed her hand.

"After your life? Who did you offend?" Grace had a bad feeling, and soon, footsteps were heard in the hallway.

She subconsciously held her breath and peered through the peephole, seeing several men clad in black t-shirts who looked fierce and menacing approaching.

She turned her head, only to find Henry Summers had disappeared.

She didn’t have time to think further as a knock came from the door.

Grace Summers’ heart pounded hard, and she slowly squatted down, hoping the person would leave.

However, the visitor persisted, knocking harder each time.

Eventually, she had no choice but to open the door.

"Gentlemen, may I ask whom you are looking for?" Grace had previously learned the language of Country C, so she could communicate with them without much hindrance.

The tall men scanned her once over and looked inside, "Have you seen a middle-aged man who is injured?"

A sudden tightness gripped Grace’s heart, "No, I’ve been home all the time and haven’t seen anyone coming in."

The leader waved his hand to his men, and they pushed past Grace, barging inside.

The rental’s space was small, with nowhere to hide. They searched everywhere but found nothing.

The men returned to the doorway and shook their heads at their leader.

The person glanced coldly at Grace, who was pale with fright, said "Sorry for the disturbance," and then left.

Watching their retreating figures, Grace breathed a huge sigh of relief, as if she had survived a great calamity.

Once the door was closed, her legs gave out, and she slumped to the floor against the wall, gasping for air.

Those people... were terrifying.

Suddenly, there was a noise from the room, and Henry Summers came out.

He calmed his expression and helped Grace off the ground, "Grace, you did a good job this time."

"What exactly did you do? How did you offend these people?" Grace asked with a stern face.

Originally when she followed Henry Summers abroad, she expected to live a good life, but now, everyday was filled with dread.

She was fed up with this kind of life!

Henry Summers guiltily looked away, not answering her question.

He had taken money to the gambling tables yesterday, winning quite a few rounds at first, but then began to lose continuously.

Unable to bear it anymore, he was about to leave when he overheard someone discussing in the restroom about cheating, otherwise known as sleight of hand.

He calculated all possibilities but did not expect that he simply lacked the skill to pull it off flawlessly.

Moreover, being his first attempt, he panicked and soon the people inside figured out something was odd.

They took all his money and a group of men violently beat him up.

He managed to escape, but those people relentlessly pursued him.

He wouldn’t say it, but Grace guessed roughly and felt as if someone poured cold water over her, chilling her through.

"Dad, can we not go to places like that anymore? Can’t we just live a good life, just the two of us?" She knelt down, tightly clutching Henry Summers’ hand.

Henry Summers forcefully pushed her away, his expression fierce: "I am not content! If fate is unfair to me, I have to fight for myself! I believe that someday, everything I lost will come back!"

"I’ve come to this point today, all thanks to Serena Summers and Lucas Shaw! Once I become strong enough, I will definitely settle this score with them!"

Grace clenched her fists in silence, her eyes filled with resentment.

Yes, her current misery, it was all Serena’s fault!

If she had the chance to return to her country, she definitely wouldn’t let Serena off easily!
