Forced to Marry the Sickly Billionaire-Chapter 333: Achieving Cooperation
Chapter 333: Chapter 333: Achieving Cooperation
On the other side, Serena Summers followed Minister Ray to his office.
Minister Ray handed over the information his people had gathered to Serena, "This must be the real reason you came to see me."
Serena took the documents and glanced at them. As she had guessed, Minister Ray had already had the Shaw Family investigated.
Although the Shaw Family has offended many in the business world, those people have always been wary of the family’s influence and would not target them so blatantly.
The only possibility was the "G" organization.
Serena’s eyes curved, and her long, curled eyelashes fluttered as she asked, "So, are you going to help, or not?"
"Give me a reason to help you." Minister Ray sat opposite Serena, tapping his fingers absently on the desk, seemingly lost in thought.
"Isn’t the information you’ve gathered enough? Many people think that organization was destroyed nineteen years ago, but as you know, they made a comeback two years ago, and many children are still missing."
"This matter is not only related to the Shaw Family, but also to many people’s lives, and now it even involves Corland."
Minister Ray had a grave expression on his face, but he still did not relent.
He pressed on, "Then why do you think they would target Leonard Kee?"
Serena did not answer his question directly but muttered, "Isn’t this supposed to be Leonard Kee’s last year in office?"
Her words exploded in Minister Ray’s mind like a clap of thunder.
A look of astonishment appeared on his usually composed face, "What do you mean by that?"
"I didn’t say anything; we will have to wait for Leonard Kee to wake up to know the specifics."
It’s a critical time for elections and change of power in Corland, so who would want Leonard Kee dead the most?
Moreover, according to his investigations, Mason Parker is now in Corland.
Minister Ray quickly regained his composure and advised in a low voice, "This matter is of great consequence, do not reveal anything for now."
"Of course. But since you’ve pried some information from me, shouldn’t we reciprocate?" Serena lazily leaned back in her chair, leisurely looking at Minister Ray.
Upon hearing this, Minister Ray couldn’t help but laugh out loud, "You cunning girl, have you already planned everything out in advance?"
Serena looked back at him calmly and indifferently, "I don’t have that much ability; if I did, I wouldn’t be here."
What she’s always wanted is for her family to be safe, but there’s always someone causing trouble.
Then they shouldn’t blame her for being impolite.
"If that organization truly has connections with the powers in Corland, even the Shaw Family, Horizon Group, and the Lane Family combined might not be a match for them. That’s why I need your help."
This was the real purpose of Serena’s conversation with Minister Ray.
Both the Shaw Family and the Lane Family primarily engage in business.
In contrast, their adversary has been able to make a comeback after seventeen years, indicating a deeply entrenched power structure behind them.
She dares not gamble with her family members’ lives.
Minister Ray pondered for a long while before speaking, "You go back first. I need to think this over."
Serena was not surprised by his answer and stood up to leave.
But before she had taken two steps, she heard the person behind her ask, "I remember, Mr. Lucas Shaw fell into the sea two years ago? Where has he been these two years?"
Serena paused her step, and slowly, a faint smile spread across her lips, "I know what you want to ask. Yes, indeed he spent two years with that organization, but he wouldn’t do anything to harm me or the Shaw Family."
"Oh? How can you be sure? I’ve heard he was hypnotized; what if he can’t control himself..."
"There are no ifs!"
Serena Summers’ voice suddenly turned cold, assuming a resolute posture in defense of Adrian Holt.
"He will not pose any threat to you, nor has he ever done anything to harm others. From beginning to end, he has been the victim," she declared.
Minister Ray was caught off guard by how intense Serena’s emotions became at the mention of Adrian Holt, and couldn’t help but be stunned for a moment.
He softened his tone and explained, "Don’t get me wrong, I just want to understand the situation better, given that it’s of great importance."
Serena took a deep breath to calm herself, "I’m here for cooperation, not to beg you. He’s my bottom line. If you wish our cooperation to continue, you should not touch upon it."
"Okay, I will be careful in the future," Minister Ray’s voice softened, as if he was coaxing a child.
In his eyes, Serena was just like a child.
Seemingly cold and aloof on the surface, but actually a mischievous child at heart, especially when interrogating those people.
After a few more words, they left the office.
When Serena returned to the entrance of the interrogation room, she saw Adrian Holt standing with his arms crossed, leaning against the wall.
His eyes were lowered, as if lost in thought.
Hearing footsteps, he slowly raised his head.
The ice in his eyes melted instantly when they met Serena’s.
"Have you been waiting long? Let’s go home," Serena walked up to Adrian Holt, took his hand proactively, and led him outside.
After the two left, Zachary Parker curiously asked, "Minister, what do you think of Serena Summers?"
"She’s perceptive and bold; a very nice young lady," Minister Ray praised, watching Serena’s departing figure.
Zachary nodded in agreement, "That’s what I think, too."
Minister Ray raised an eyebrow: "Fancy the girl, do you? It’s no use; she’s already spoken for."
Teased in such a way, Zachary’s face flushed with embarrassment, "Minister, you know that’s not what I meant. I just think it’s a pity. Such a promising young talent would surely be a great asset if cultivated properly."
Seeing his typically cold subordinate show a bashful expression, Minister Ray couldn’t help but burst into hearty laughter.
After the laughter, Minister Ray reflected, "Indeed, she’s a promising talent, such a pity..."
He could tell that Serena was not interested in this field, and moreover, she had a high aptitude for medicine. If she devoted herself to research, she would definitely create new peaks for Corland’s medical career.
If Dean Carter knew he was trying to recruit her, wouldn’t he explode in anger?
Elsewhere, Serena took Adrian Holt away from the National Security Department and to a restaurant for a meal.
They ordered dishes they both loved.
Adrian Holt wasn’t hungry and only nibbled a little before feeling full, while Serena ate heartily, looking utterly carefree.
He was amused yet helpless, taking a plate of shrimps and skilfully starting to peel them.
Seeing Serena’s evident enjoyment, the corners of his lips couldn’t help but curve upward.
"Eat slowly, no one’s competing with you."
"I’ve decided, I’ll cut down on interactions with National Security Department folks in the future. It’s too draining," she mumbled, her cheeks puffed up with food, resembling a little hamster hoarding its meal.
She spoke while she ate, her words muffled and unclear.
Adrian Holt watched silently, feeling his hands getting itchy again.
