Forced to Marry the Sickly Billionaire-Chapter 320: Be Fair to Talents, No Need for Other Things
Chapter 320: Chapter 320: Be Fair to Talents, No Need for Other Things
Serena Summers darkened her face and retorted coldly, "What I do is none of your business. Instead of meddling in my affairs, you should mind your own!"
Although she knew that Elena had been mentally controlled by Nathaniel Hamilton for over a decade, the insults still inevitably infuriated Serena.
The Ryan Family was, after all, a noble household in Imperial Capital City, and yet it raised a woman like Elena who was both overbearing and arrogant.
The disdain in Serena’s eyes deeply provoked Elena.
It would have been better if Serena hadn’t spoken at all, for her words ignited Elena’s rage immediately.
Had it not been for Serena, how could Lucas Shaw possibly have driven his own mother out of the house?
Only Heaven knows what kind of days she has been enduring in the Ryan family.
Ignoring the restraint of several wealthy ladies, she charged forward, raising her arm to slap Serena’s face.
Serena felt a gust of wind blow by and her eyes narrowed sharply as she took a silver needle from her bag, ready to strike.
At this moment, a fair and slender hand reached out from behind, firmly grasped Elena’s wrist, and flung it forcefully.
Teetering on her high heels, Elena lost her balance and fell to the ground.
Elena only felt a pain throughout her body, and she screamed from the intense pain.
Angry, she looked up and then suddenly froze.
The next second, her pupils constricted sharply, her eyes gradually filled with fear as she looked at Adrian Holt, and she kept shifting back.
"You, you are... Lucas Shaw?"
"No, how can this be? Lucas Shaw is already dead! Who are you really?"
"A ghost? Are you a ghost, right? Don’t come for me, don’t..."
Adrian Holt frowned slightly, his heart also sank.
He had heard before that Elena had mental problems, but he did not expect them to be this severe.
However, he felt no sympathy for her, because she didn’t deserve it.
Serena pulled on the hem of his clothes and tiptoed to whisper in his ear, "She’s been hypnotized for a long time and is still in the adjustment phase, don’t stoop to argue with a mentally ill person."
Serena didn’t intend to let Elena off the hook, she just felt it unnecessary to argue with a mentally ill patient, as it would be a mere waste of time.
She walked slowly to Elena, looking down at her, "Mrs. Ryan, has anyone ever told you not to meddle in other people’s business? You say I disgrace the Shaw Family, but what does the Shaw Family have to do with you?"
Vincent Shaw had divorce Elena Ryan long ago, and the Shaw Family had no connection with Elena Ryan whatsoever.
What Serena does, whether or not it disgraces the Shaw Family, should be judged by the true members of the Shaw Family.
And not by someone who is an outsider.
"You!"
Elena was infuriated by these words, looking coldly at Adrian Holt, "I am your mother! How dare you let Serena bully me, don’t you have a conscience?"
"Conscience? Conscience is for dealing with people, for other things... it’s not required," Adrian Holt’s lips curved slightly, his tone calm yet tinged with an indescribable coldness.
Things?
He actually said she wasn’t even comparable to a person, just an object?
A hint of hatred flashed in Elena’s eyes.
The wealthy ladies nearby were frightened by Adrian’s sudden appearance, each of their faces pale, eyes full of disbelief.
Wasn’t it said that Mr. Lucas Shaw had already died?
Then who is this man standing here now?
Just now, when they heard Elena say that the Shaw Family’s daughter-in-law was having an affair, they thought they might witness some high-society scandal today.
But instead of witnessing any scandal... they saw a man who was supposedly dead standing right before them.
Adrian Holt stood confidently letting everyone scrutinize him, completely unafraid of being seen through.
Even Serena Summers and the Shaw family couldn’t spot any flaws, let alone these outsiders?
He stepped forward to Elena Ryan and said coldly, "If I ever hear you bullying Serena again, don’t blame me for being rude."
Elena Ryan shuddered violently, and suddenly the image of being driven out of her home flashed in her mind, leaving her speechless.
Meeting Adrian Holt’s icy gaze, Elena Ryan shrank her neck in fear.
Adrian Holt sneered coldly and left holding Serena’s hand.
As soon as he left, the oppressive atmosphere that had pervaded the area instantly dissipated completely.
Everyone slowly let out a sigh of relief.
Too ... terrifying.
Mr. Lucas Shaw’s eyes were like icy blades, cold and sharp, making people involuntarily terrified.
Elena Ryan stared intently at the retreating figures of Adrian Holt and Serena, a hint of hatred flashing in her eyes.
Adrian Holt hadn’t gone far when he sensed a malicious gaze behind him. He paused his steps and slowly turned around.
Those hawk-like eyes precisely locked onto Elena Ryan, frightening her into a start, and she hurriedly withdrew her gaze.
Adrian Holt chuckled coldly in his heart, realizing that indeed there are mothers in this world who do not love their own children.
Upon exiting the mall, Brandon Reese had already driven the car to the entrance, ready to come in and find them.
"My lord, madam, you are finally out."
"Yes, we got a bit held up," Serena explained softly, pulling Adrian’s hand as they sat in the car.
"Brandon, to the airport."
Brandon showed a hint of surprise in his eyes, looking through the rear-view mirror towards the back seat, and asked, "Madam, where are you and the lord planning to go?"
"Imperial Capital," Serena said succinctly.
Adrian Holt looked at Serena surprisingly, but he didn’t say anything.
Brandon, however, anxiously asked, "Madam, the incident happened in Imperial Capital last time, do we need me to call a few more bodyguards to follow?"
"No need, the oldest senior brother and the master are in the Imperial Capital, they’ll arrange protection for me and Adrian," Serena replied.
Hearing this, Brandon nodded hesitantly, no longer saying anything.
Before leaving, Serena specifically instructed, "There might be people troubling the Shaw family in the coming days, tell older brother to be more cautious."
"Who dares to be so bold as to mess with the Shaw family in S city?" Brandon asked incredulously.
S city is the Shaw family’s territory, who dares to challenge the Shaw family on their own turf? Have they grown tired of living?
Serena pursed her lips and said, "People from the organization might be lurking in the dark at any time, it’s always good to be cautious. I don’t want a repeat of the tragedy from two years ago."
Having said that, she exited the car, closing the car door behind her, and walked towards the airport with Adrian Holt.
All the way, Adrian Holt cooperatively followed Serena, without asking an extra question or showing any impatience.
The two took a private plane to Imperial Capital. On the plane, Serena, tired, leaned against Lucas Shaw’s shoulder and fell asleep.
Serena has a small habit of sleeping after every energy-draining surgery or acupuncture session to replenish her energy.
However, she hadn’t had time to rest after the surgery.
Now, on the plane, she couldn’t help but feel sleepy.
At first, her eyelids began to feel heavy, struggling to stay open, her little head nodding off like a pecking chicken.
The sleepy appearance was irresistibly amusing.
Adrian Holt had no choice but to wrap his arms around her, gently stroking her hair with his warm palm, and whispered softly, "Sleep for a while, I’ll wake you up when we arrive."
