Forced to Marry the Sickly Billionaire-Chapter 303: Sorry to Have Worried You
Chapter 303: Chapter 303: Sorry to Have Worried You
Watching Adrian Holt’s gloomy expression, Serena Summers couldn’t help but snicker inside.
After two years, it was her first time coming home, and to be mistaken for a ghost by her own little brother, she wondered how big his mental trauma was at this moment.
Serena pressed her lips together, trying to hold back her laughter.
Adrian Holt’s gaze drifted over and seeing her laughing so joyfully, he felt even more stifled.
Who was he doing this all for?
Sensing someone’s deadly glare, Serena quickly straightened her face and explained to Adrian Shaw, "He’s not a ghost; try again if you don’t believe it. Ghosts don’t have a temperature."
Adrian Shaw looked at Adrian Holt, swallowed nervously, and then tremblingly stretched out a finger towards him.
However, before his finger could touch Adrian Holt’s face, it was grasped by a warm hand.
He instinctively looked up to see Adrian Holt looking at him with disgust, "Did you wash your hands? Do you know how many germs are on a person’s hands?"
Feeling the warmth from his wrist, Adrian Shaw’s tears, which had just ceased, started to flow again.
It was warm.
So, his second brother really did come back!
Adrian Shaw ignored Adrian Holt’s objections and lunged forward, hugging him tightly.
"Second brother, I knew you weren’t dead!"
"It’s been two years, why did you only come back now? Do you know how much I’ve missed you?"
A vein on Adrian Holt’s forehead throbbed as he struggled to restrain himself from pushing Adrian Shaw away.
Adrian Shaw cried messily, even burying his face on Adrian Holt’s shoulder, smearing his snot and tears all over it.
Adrian Holt: "..."
He couldn’t help but twitch the corner of his eye and quickly pushed Adrian Shaw’s head away, "Alright, stop crying. You’re so grown up, and you’re still crying."
Adrian Shaw stepped back, hiccupping, and stared unblinkingly at the second brother in front of him.
Fearing that if he’s not careful, his brother would disappear again.
At that moment, footsteps suddenly came from upstairs.
Adrian Holt followed the sound and saw an old man, who bore a resemblance to him, being helped down the stairs by another older man with graying hair.
"That’s Grandpa and the housekeeper," Serena whispered as a reminder from beside them.
Adrian Holt’s lips pressed into a thin line, and as if his feet were moving on their own, he walked towards Master Shaw.
"Grandpa."
Master Shaw nearly broke into tears when he heard that "Grandpa."
He walked down the stairs with his walking stick, his eyes red with emotion, but quickly he put on a stern face.
Adrian Holt braced himself for an embrace from Master Shaw, but what greeted him was Master Shaw’s walking stick instead.
"You rascal, you still know to come back?"
The solid wooden stick hit his leg solidly, and Adrian Holt felt a dull pain.
Seeing Master Shaw about to strike with his walking stick again, Serena quickly stepped in front of Adrian Holt, blocking him, "Grandpa, one hit is enough, if you really hurt him, you’ll be distressed."
"I’ll be distressed for him? Who is going to be distressed for me, an old wreck?" Master Shaw said, though he put his stick away.
But the anger in his heart had not yet subsided, and he sternly reprimanded, "Get over here, what kind of skill is hiding behind a woman? Our whole family has been anxious for you, and you still have the face to hide?"
Adrian Holt sheepishly touched his nose, stepping out from behind Serena.
He sneaked a glance at Serena, and seeing her nod, he took a step forward, stretched out his long arm, and hugged Master Shaw tightly.
"Grandpa, I’m sorry for making you worry."
Master Shaw’s eyes instantly reddened, and he embraced Adrian Holt excitedly.
He spoke awkwardly, "Who was worried about you? I have plenty of grandsons, I’m not lacking you! Serena has been the most worried about you, do you know what she has gone through these past few years?"
Adrian Holt released Master Shaw and firmly took hold of Serena Summers’s hand, his deep eyes brimming with tenderness and heartache.
"You’ve had a hard time these past two years."
Even though Serena knew that Adrian Holt hadn’t regained his memory and this was all an act, she still couldn’t help but have her eyes turn red.
She smiled and shook her head, pursing her lips without saying a word.
Master Shaw nodded with a contented look, asking, "Where have you been these past two years? Two years ago, I searched the sea for you for several days, but ultimately to no avail."
Mentioning the events of two years ago, Master Shaw not only sighed deeply.
Back then, on hearing about Lucas Shaw’s death, he nearly suffocated with shock and fainted.
By the time he came around, the family had already begun arranging the funeral.
Even the police had concluded that his body was blown to pieces, probably eaten by the fish in the sea as food.
Adrian Holt’s gaze flickered slightly, his response vague, "I was saved by someone. I’ve been recuperating for the past two years, and only recently have I started to recover."
Master Shaw nodded and did not press further.
No matter what had happened before, it was good enough that he was back.
Adrian Holt quietly breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that after all these years in the business world, if Master Shaw continued to ask questions, he really wouldn’t know how to answer.
Fortunately, this topic passed quickly.
At this moment, Adrian Holt’s gaze suddenly landed on a figure hiding in the crowd.
His lips curved into a cold arc as he strode towards that direction.
Clara Shaw, when she first caught sight of Adrian Holt, was quite frightened, and though she initially wanted to run to her room to hide, she was pulled back by her mother.
Even though she had braced herself, she couldn’t help but feel fear.
After Lucas Shaw’s death, Clara Shaw had always used this as a reason to provoke Serena, hoping to see her go crazy like her great-aunt Elena Ryan.
Then she would have an excuse to completely throw her out of the house.
But who could have imagined that before Serena could be driven away, Lucas Shaw would come back to life.
Given Lucas Shaw’s character, if he knew what she had done to Serena, he certainly wouldn’t let her off easily.
Sure enough, Lucas Shaw quickly took notice of her.
Watching the towering figure draw closer, Clara Shaw’s heart sank dramatically.
She tightly grasped her mother’s arm, trying to hide behind her.
But Lucas Shaw did not intend to let her off easily; with a stern face and not a word, he stepped closer to Clara Shaw.
Already feeling guilty, Clara Shaw involuntarily stepped back under Lucas Shaw’s grim and icy gaze.
She took a step back and Lucas Shaw moved forward.
Finally, her foot was unexpectedly tripped by the stair’s step, and she tumbled back, sitting abruptly on the step with her back right against the banister.
The coldness of the metal material made Clara Shaw shiver violently.
With nowhere to retreat, she looked up at Lucas Shaw, horror filling her eyes, "Don’t, don’t come any closer!"
Adrian Holt set foot on the stair, leaning closer slowly, "What did you just say, who did she doom to death? Hmm?"
The man’s face was deep and handsome, with sharp, defined features, and his lips bearing a faint curve.
His voice was low and gentle as he spoke, and with the last word, the tone rose slightly, sending a shiver down Clara Shaw’s spine, causing all the hairs on her body to stand on end.
"It wasn’t... it wasn’t me!"
