Forced to Marry the Sickly Billionaire-Chapter 288: Some Lines Should Not Be Crossed
Chapter 288: Chapter 288: Some Lines Should Not Be Crossed
He was repeatedly rejected by Serena Summers back then, feeling that he had lost face, so he hid in his room and refused to come out.
It had nothing to do with Serena Summers.
What he didn’t expect was that his most respected aunt, without his knowledge, had actually gone to see Serena Summers and even threw a check at her.
How could she humiliate the girl he liked?
Nathan Fletcher felt as though his heart was about to collapse, anxiously looking towards Serena Summers, afraid that she would misunderstand him.
But to his disappointment, Serena Summers’ expression was calm and unrippled, as if she had not taken the matter to heart.
Lucas Shaw extended his arm and pulled Serena Summers tightly into his embrace; his icy and sharp gaze fell upon Nathan Fletcher, declaring his sovereignty.
"People who pursue my wife could line up all the way to the airport; Young Master Fletcher is just one of them. What you treasure in your hands is nothing to others. Moreover, my wife is not obligated to treat Youngest Master Fletcher, and if you are ungrateful and want to slander my wife, then don’t blame me for being impolite."
He grabbed Serena Summers’ hand and strode out of the hospital room.
Looking at the man’s broad and upright back, a warm feeling inevitably rose in Serena Summers’ chest.
She quickened her pace, hugged the man’s arm and slightly lifted the corner of her lips, "Do we really want to leave like this?"
"Yes."
"Inside are all our elders, and the power of both the Lane Family and Fletcher Family. I’m afraid we can’t afford to offend them."
Lucas Shaw paused his steps, his hands holding her delicate and frail shoulders, a carnivorous cold flashing through his dark eyes.
"As long as Grandpa Lane is around, he won’t let Sophia Fletcher call the shots. As for the Fletcher Family... although the commercial map of the Fletcher Family can’t be shaken in the short term, it has shown a downward trend in recent years."
Though bringing down the Fletcher Family might take some effort, it’s not impossible.
The arrogant and flamboyant tone of Lucas Shaw made people inexplicably want to believe him; since he could say so assertively, it proved he was confident he could accomplish it.
It also sufficiently proved that he was willing to risk everything for Serena Summers, even betting the entire Shaw Group.
A warm current swept through Serena Summers’ heart; she hugged his arm, cheek gently rubbing against it.
"Serena Summers."
Suddenly, a rush of hurried footsteps came from behind, and Serena Summers slowly turned back to look at the newcomer, "Claire Lane?"
Claire Lane stood in front of them panting, a trace of guilt flickering in her eyes, "Sorry, my mother is just temperamental, she really didn’t mean any harm."
"Miss Lane, do you perhaps have a misunderstanding about being ’temperamental’? No matter how much family support she has behind her, that’s no excuse to slander and humiliate my wife."
The man’s eyes narrowed slightly, his thin lips curling into a mocking arc, his powerful aura making one’s heart tremble.
Claire Lane was startled by his icy demeanor, her heart skipping a beat, subconsciously trying to defend, "No, that’s not it, my mother she..."
"Claire Lane, Mrs. Lane is my elder, there are some things I shouldn’t say, but there are some lines that cannot be crossed. Please relay to her, to put off treating Youngest Master Fletchers’ illness, I have other matters to attend to." Serena Summers said sternly, pulling Lucas Shaw’s hand ready to leave.
Who doesn’t have a temper?
People already said they don’t trust her medical skills, thinking she has ulterior motives, why should she embarrass herself?
Seeing them about to leave, Claire Lane instantly panicked, quickly running in front to stop them.
"I’m sorry, I apologize on behalf of my mother. She really didn’t mean it, Serena Summers, please forgive her." Claire Lane pleaded earnestly and sincerely, truly frightened.
The Fletcher Family had previously consulted numerous doctors, but none were able to cure Lucas’s illness.
Only Serena Summers, whether it was through acupuncture or those medicines, all proved effective.
At this moment, she had only one thought, and that was to keep Serena, otherwise, Lucas would truly be beyond help.
Lucas was indeed the lifeline of the Fletcher Family, and they couldn’t afford an irreparable situation due to his mother’s impulsive actions.
For the first time, Serena seriously scrutinized the person in front of her; in her mind, Claire Lane had always been a spoiled and arrogant young lady.
No matter when, or who she faced, she always bore an arrogant and ostentatious demeanor.
She had never seen her bow her head to anyone before; this was a first.
Ultimately, Serena was not a cold-hearted person, besides, the poison affecting Lucas was somewhat related to her; she couldn’t possibly just stand by and watch.
She looked up at Lucas Shaw.
Lucas Shaw cast his gaze downward to meet hers, his warm palm gently caressed her hair, "Do whatever you want to do."
He supported her unconditionally and respected Serena’s choices.
Serena pursed her lips and chuckled softly; no matter what, he always understood what she was thinking at the first moment.
But she did not immediately agree to Claire Lane, instead, she said softly, "I can agree to continue treating Lucas, but I hope Mrs. Lane will not interfere with me anymore. That’s my only request."
"Okay, I promise you!" Claire Lane agreed without a second thought.
Serena’s request was not at all excessive, it could even be considered perfectly reasonable.
She sighed silently in her heart; many people said she had a bad temper, spoiled and willful, but only she knew, compared to her, her mom was much more so.
Her mom was accustomed to being dominant, never having been defaced by anyone in her life.
Moreover, considering Serena was such a young junior, it was certainly uncomfortable for her, but to say there was malice, that definitely was not the case.
In the sickroom, Grandpa Lane’s expression suddenly turned grim, his face looked a bit unsightly.
"Sophia Fletcher, are you satisfied now? I only have this one granddaughter, and you actually humiliate her with a cheque?"
Sophia Fletcher’s face flushed red, feeling incredibly wronged, "Dad, she was the one humiliating me with a cheque!"
Sophia Fletcher had never felt so frustrated before.
Who could have thought that Serena was not some poor girl unfit for high society, but the very granddaughter of Grandpa Lane?
Grandpa Lane knew his daughter-in-law’s nature well; furious, he didn’t want to deal with her, instead turning to Nathan, who stood nearby.
"Nathan, tell me, what exactly happened before? What’s going on between you and Serena?"
Nathan’s eyes flickered slightly, his lips pursed, a hint of abnormal blush on his cheeks, "Grandpa Lane, I pursued Serena before, but she didn’t agree."
The young man, his heart newly awakened to love, encountered the girl he liked, wanting to pour out all his feelings of love.
Yet, he never received a response in return.
He indeed wished Serena would seduce him, but she wouldn’t even spare him a second glance.
"Serena, I formally apologize on behalf of my aunt here, sorry." Nathan Fletcher bowed deeply towards Serena, his words sincere.
