FLASH MARRIAGE; CHARMED BY THE RUTHLESS BILLIONAIRE CEO-Chapter 239: Sweet Aunt Vera
After Blaze received a call from his aunt, he briefly excused himself from the suffocating silence in the room and left for the airport.
An hour and thirty minutes later, he returned with his aunt and Eugene only to find Amelia nowhere in sight.
"Where is your wife? I thought you said she was here?" Vera spared her nephew a quick look before approaching her sister-in-law's bedside, her heart throbbing at Maria's depressing state.
"She was before I left or did she leave?" Blaze pondered, scratching his head. "I guess she must have gone to..."
Blaze didn't get to finish his statement, when the door was suddenly pushed open from outside, prompting all three of them to turn backwards.
"Aunt Vera..." Amelia's gloomy eyes lit up at the sight of Eugene's mom. She hurried inside and shut the door quietly behind her, before throwing herself in vera outstretched arm in a warm embrace. "I have missed you."
"Me too." Vera pulled away, pecking Amelia on either side of her cheek. "I was just asking your husband after you."
"Oh, I had to use the restroom," Amelia said while acknowledging Eugene, without sparing Blaze a glance.
"I'm sorry about Maria. Your husband told me everything including what happened to your father."
"Everything!" Amelia's eyes widened as she flashed Blaze an incredulous stare.
"Yes, dear." Vera turned Amelia's chin to face her. "And on behalf of that foolish young man standing over there and the entire Anderson family, please accept my deepest apology for your father. I can assure you that such irresponsible behaviour will never happen again."
Amelia didn't prepare herself for this level of apology. She didn't even know how to respond to it. All she could do was plaster a believing smile on her face and nod her head, while anger simmered under her skin.
"Concerning every other thing, we will talk about it later at home. In the meantime, let me be the first member of your husband's family to officially say, congratulations. I hear you are going to be a mother very soon. Maria would be so proud."
"Thanks, aunt Vera. You're so sweet." Amelia eyes glimmered as tears rolled down her cheek.
"Hey, no crying is allowed under my watch." Vera brought out her scented white handkerchief and dabbed Amelia's tears dry before embracing her tenderly. "I'm so proud of you. Thank you for this precious gift."
Blaze could only watch, guilt crippling his conscience as he recalled the way Vera lashed out furiously at him when he opened up to her. He smiled, seeing the way Amelia moulded into Vera's motherly embrace, wishing he could steal a moment with her.
"How are you holding up so far?"
"I'm trying to keep my head above water."
"That's the spirit. Why don't we sit down." Vera led Amelia to the seat by Maria's bedside and pulled another chair opposite her.
"Thanks, aunt."
Both women sat down while Blaze and Eugene remained standing.
"H-How was your flight?" Amelia managed to ask, pushing her suffocating thoughts to the pit of her stomach.
"Delayed and a bit frustrating. But thank goodness I'm finally here." Vera let out a deep sigh as her gaze shifted to Maria. She took Maria's hand into hers, stroking it tenderly. "She looks so peaceful, almost as if she's in a deep sleep."
"Yes," Amelia whispered, her voice laced with grief as she looked at Maria. "We're all praying for her to wake up soon."
"Oh, she will," Vera said reassuringly as if she had come with some sought of psychic healing power. "Is just a matter of hours or a few days. She won't be sleeping that long after she listens to all the juicy gist I have just for her."
Amelia chuckled knowing how much both women love chatting.
"I'm sure she will. By the way congratulations on Naomi's delivery. How is she and the baby."
"They are both doing great. You should come and visit them."
"I think I will." Amelia's eyes brightened as an idea popped into her head. All she needed right now was a getaway from all this chaos in her life.
Spending time with an amazing family blessed with adorable children sounded like the perfect place to be.
Vera's eagle-like eyes scanned Amelia from head to toe before she pointed out.
"You look so stressed, my darling just like your husband. I think you both should go home and rest. Eugene and I would take it from here."
"I'm fine. I don't..."
"I wasn't making a request," Vera said sternly, cutting Amelia off. "I will see you both in the morning."
Amelia sighed, feeling cornered. "Okay."
"Young man, what are you still doing there moping around?" Vera snapped at Blaze like a military officer. "Come here and help your wife stand up or do you think being pregnant is an easy job?"
"No ma'am!" Blaze moved briskly to where Amelia was seated while Eugene suppressed a chuckle.
"Don't worry, I can stand by myself." Amelia forced a smile on her face while refusing Blaze's outstretched hand.
"Let your husband assist you, my dear. He put you in that condition and it is his job to ensure that you are always comfortable. This is the best time to use him as your errand boy. Don't go easy on him."
Amelia could feel a setup at work. If she didn't know better, she would say Vera was trying to fix her relationship since Blaze had told her everything. She decided not to be headstrong and just play along as she slowly accepted Blaze's hand.
"Thanks," Blaze whispered, as she gently helped her up as if she was heavily pregnant and couldn't move.

"We will see you tomorrow morning Aunt." Blaze beamed in appreciation while Vera gave him a nonverbal signal behind Amelia's back.
As Blaze drove them home, he occasionally stole glances at his wife from the rearview mirror. Her arms were crossed and resting protectively over her stomach while her face was staring at the passing neon-lit buildings and trees.
The street lights casted fleeting shadow on her face and her gaze was completely blank.
Amelia hadn't said a single word to him since they left the hospital and the silence was becoming torturing by the second.
Halfway through the journey home, Blaze could not take the silent treatment anymore.
