Chapter 300: Chapter 300: The Hu Family’s Cunning Plan and Mo Wu’s Family’s Request (2)_1
With no spectacle left to witness, the onlookers who had gathered dispersed amidst a whirl of discussion, still not forgetting to gossip about the feuds between the Li and Zhang families.
Zhang Ming, being not very capable, dared to cause trouble over and over again simply because he believed that Lixiu would not be so heartless towards him. He thought that by allowing her, a hen that did not lay eggs, to return and providing her a place to settle, she should be grateful and return to the Zhang family. Refusing to go back with him yesterday was just a pretense of modesty expected from a woman; if he persisted, with her weak character, she would surely obediently follow him back.
Thus, as soon as he got home, he couldn’t wait to secretly tell Hu family about the encounter with Lixiu.
The Hu family thought that the shop sold off had been given to Lizhong by Mo Yan, and so they harbored crooked thoughts. They wanted to bring Lixiu back to toil like an ox or horse and, through her, manipulate Lizhong to get their hands on the shop. That’s why they came over today, to convince Lixiu, their former daughter-in-law.
In their view, as long as Lixiu agreed to return to the Zhang family, whatever Lizhong did to stop it would be in vain. However, they came back empty-handed, as Lixiu was not in the shop at all; they only saw Liyan. Thus, the mother and son duo joined forces to bully a young girl, pressuring her to reveal Lixiu’s whereabouts.
Liyan hated the Zhangs to death and naturally refused to disclose her aunt’s location, which led to a conflict between the two sides. Had it not been for Mo Yan and another’s timely arrival, the situation might have escalated if Liyan had struck with the pole she held.
Throughout the entire incident, Mo Yan watched coldly as Lizhong dealt with the Zhang family’s people. There was no point in reasoning with such shameless scoundrels; a direct and harsh beating was far more effective than any other methods.
If it weren’t in the middle of the street, she would have wanted to rush forward and give those Zhang scoundrels a good beating, thrashing them so badly they’d be ashamed to show their faces in public again!
Lizhong, picking up the broom and stick from the ground, guiltily said, "Yan girl, we’ve caused you trouble again."
The commotion caused by the Zhang family would surely affect the shop’s business, and if such disturbances continued a few more times, they could forget about maintaining their business.
"Grandfather Li, how could you blame yourselves for this!" Mo Yan’s gaze was stern as she watched the two scoundrels leave, "They’re determined to dig their own graves; no one can stop them."
Lizhong’s heart tightened, and he quickly said, "Yan girl, you mustn’t act impulsively! I will take care of this, please don’t get involved."
"Pfft! Grandfather Li, don’t be so tense. I won’t do anything that breaks the law. I just want to teach them a lesson, to stop them from troubling us again!"
Knowing that Lizhong had misunderstood, Mo Yan couldn’t help but laugh. Naturally, she wouldn’t get her hands dirty over such scoundrels.
"That’s good, that’s good! After all, it’s a feud between our two families and shouldn’t involve you," Lizhong said with a look of self-reproach.
Seeing this, Mo Yan felt a headache coming on, "Grandfather Li, it’s not just a feud between your two families! Even without you, the Zhangs would not be content to let the shop just fall into my hands, and they would find some other excuse to cause trouble sooner or later."
She had once tricked the Zhangs, and they might still suspect her. She thought that with Zhang Fugui in jail, they would settle down, but they dared to create disturbance again—she had underestimated the shamelessness of the Zhang family. If she had gotten the whole family thrown in jail to reunite them earlier, today’s situation wouldn’t have arisen.
Lizhong merely thought Mo Yan was trying to console him, his guilt intensifying.
With business practically dead after the Zhang family’s disruption, Mo Yan spoke briefly to Lizhong and his grandson before heading to Huixian Residence.
"Little Brother Zhu, still busy, huh!"
Upon entering, she saw Xiao Zhu hurriedly running down from upstairs, and Mo Yan greeted him.
As soon as Xiao Zhu saw her, thinking she was there to see the Punishing Shopkeeper, he quickly said, "The Punishing Shopkeeper is upstairs entertaining important guests. If Miss Mo has an urgent matter, I’ll go call him right away."
