Chapter 103: Chapter 103: Regret divorcing her

Xu Meng went straight to his office instead of returning home after talking with Qin Zhuzhu. He was shocked by the evidence his ex-wife had sent him.

He was very reluctant, but he finally forced himself to give the order to his assistant to investigate further. He had never bothered to investigate this matter because, no matter what, he always believed Bai Qianhua and his family.

Bai Qianhua was innocent in his eyes, but what his ex-wife said shattered his beliefs. They had been husband and wife for a few years. At the very least, he could tell that she wasn’t lying.

The assistant came back and confirmed it. The bank records of his sisters hiring and paying criminals to do dirty work could be seen clearly. The assistant even went to the security company and retrieved the tape after going through many procedures. Qin Zhuzhu wasn’t lying. A splitting headache made its way to Xu Meng’s forehead.

The sky was dark outside. Bai Qianhua sent him some messages. He felt like he had lost all of his energy, so he didn’t open them. He read them from the notifications.

"When are you coming back?"

"Brother Xu, I miss you."

"I cooked your favorite for dinner."

"Brother Xu...."

He didn’t read the rest. Xu Meng switched off his network and shut his phone down. Then he leaned back in his chair and exhaled. He looked up at the high ceiling.

As much as he didn’t want to pay back those five billion, he had no choice. Shentu Jing wasn’t going to let him go. Even if he gave up on his sisters, Shentu Jing would still find ways to make him pay back.

Xu Meng was starting to regret his decision to divorce Qin Zhuzhu back then. He fell asleep in his office.

Xu Meng started counting the properties he could sell without alerting his father. He thought of asking his father for help, but he knew that his cowardly father would rather sell off his daughters than offend the Shentu family.

Even though his sisters were a nuisance and annoying at times, they were still his family. Some part of him knew that he couldn’t let them go. His mother would never forgive him.

"Mr. Xu, it’s twenty million in total," the assistant spoke on the phone.

"See how much my private villa and the car my father gave me will cost," he said with a sigh. He was going to become broke in no time.

"Mr. Xu, I’ve found a buyer for all your properties and even the car. But the buyer wants it cheaper. He wants it at 100 million! Those properties of yours are worth more than 500 million!" The assistant was utterly shocked at the low amount.

Moreover, Xu Meng’s properties were all in good condition, like brand new. Selling them at this price was like a slap to his face. It showed how much value was lost because they were under his name.

If it were the Shentu family, Qiao family, or even the Lu family, no one would dare to bargain with them.

But Xu Meng was in a desperate situation. If he didn’t return the money, Shentu Jing might really crash and destroy his business. Shentu Jing was friends with the King of the Underworld. So it was easy for him to bring him down through false charges or even manipulate the stock market.

"Tell him 200 million."

"Mr. Xu, the buyer only wants it at 100 million. More than that, he says he will leave. How about we try other buyers?"

He had already tried, but no one wanted to buy. Everyone knew that Xu Meng had offended Shentu Jing, so they dared not help.

"Seal the deal," Xu Meng said dejectedly.

"Mr. Xu, it’s a huge loss!"

"Just do it," Xu Meng hung up.

Bai Qianhua sent him a few messages and even a voice note, but he was in no mood to reply.

Xu Meng took out a box from his second drawer. He slowly opened the box to reveal two wedding rings, one large and one small.

He could still remember how happy his grandfather was when she married into the family. These rings were personally chosen and crafted by his grandfather. When Qin Zhuzhu left, she took off the ring and threw it away.

Somehow, Xu Meng managed to find it and kept it away. His old man was full of praises for her. Everyone liked Qin Zhuzhu very much, but when she lost her fortune, they treated her like trash. The old man knew nothing of these because the news was kept away from him.

Xu Meng only obeyed his grandfather to marry Qin Zhuzhu because the old man didn’t want to go overseas for treatment. After a few days of the wedding, the old man finally left for his treatment. But five years later, the doctors told him that his grandfather had no cure and was really sick. So he took the chance to break off the marriage with Qin Zhuzhu.

His grandfather could no longer control him as long as the old man didn’t know a thing. He had been keeping their divorce a secret from Xu Lijiang, his grandfather.

Xu Meng didn’t know why his grandfather liked Qin Zhuzhu so much. He thought that Qin Zhuzhu had said or done something malicious to trick the old man. Until now, he still believed his thoughts. But he always felt like there was something more to it, something he didn’t know.

He stared at the ring. If he pawned the rings, he would definitely receive a large sum of money. His grandfather’s work was exquisite. The rings were made of rare materials. That showed how much love and care his grandfather had put into them.

Xu Meng was reluctant to sell them. After all, they reminded him of his grandfather whenever he looked at them.

Nevertheless, he made a decision to sell them. He would just buy them back after he got enough money.

He walked into the nearest pawnshop and showed the rings to the shopkeeper.

"Sir, I can give you only five million for these rings," the shopkeeper said after examining them.

The actual price of the rings was not even close to five million. But the shopkeeper saw that Xu Meng looked desperate, hence he offered a cheap price. Such rare materials! These rings should be worth one billion! The rare gems were what made them worth even more.
