Lilith didn't hesitate.

The moment Vesper finished his taunt, she reared back, raising a hand.

In an instant, a giant axe made of soul energy appeared in her hands.

Then, she swung.

There was a faint tinkle as the axe sunk into the glass prison.

Then the sphere began to scream, screeching as dimensional energy began leaking out, reality folding in on itself around it.

But Lilith didn't stop. She snarled, her axe digging into it.

There was a loud crack as the sphere fractured. Then it shattered.

There was a rip in reality, and Ren fell out of it like a stone dropped from the sky. He hit the floor hard.

It had been barely more than a second out here, but he looked like he'd fought a war and come back.

His clothes were stained with dried blood, and his clothes had rips in them.

Lilith caught him by the shoulder. "You alright?" She asked, voice tight.

Ren glared at Vesper as he straightened. "No. Cause I've got a bone to pick."

Vesper chuckled from where he stood, wings curled behind him. "Did you miss me?" He asked.

"Where's Valen?" Lilith asked.

"I see." Vesper began pacing where he stood. "That idiot wasn't even strong enough to even make you look winded."

"I find myself making promises today, but this time, I don't mind." Ren said as he held Vesper's gaze.

"Vesper Rosefield. This is a promise. I'll kill you."

"Oooh. Scary." Vesper laughed, the sound high and loud. "You really think you can—"

Ren was already moving.

He hurled a Push forward with his palm, a blast of pure force slamming into Vesper.

The impact shattered the stone beneath their feet, sent debris flying, and pushed Vesper back a dozen feet.

But he didn't fall.

He skidded to a stop and laughed. "Oh, Ren. You've gotten stronger."

Ren blurred before Vesper, swinging Freedom.

Vesper's wing blurred forward, slapping the sword aside and sending Ren staggering back.

"But you're not the only one who's grown stronger!" From his wings, Vesper formed two jagged swords, bark-covered, barbed, and glistening with wet sap.

He exploded into movement as Lilith streaked towards him. With a snarl, he batted her into the walls with his wings.

"Come on!" He snarled as he surged towards Ren.

Ren met him with Freedom drawn, parrying the first blow. Vesper twisted, slamming a wing-blade at Ren's side. He stumbled as the blade stopped in the air.

His head snapped to the side, where Lilith stood, holding the soul thread that had caught the blade in mid-air.

And with a yank, she sent him stumbling backwards.

Ren didn't wait for him to recover. With a roar, he speared his hands into Vesper's chest and ripped out his heart. He pulled his hand back, and drove his fist into Vesper's chest with a Push.

Vesper shot back, embedding into the stone wall. With a snarl, he dropped to the floor, dodging Ren's fist that sent debris everywhere.

His wing-blades flashed, severing Ren at the hips, but before he could counter, Lilith was in front of him.

Her giant axe of soul energy descended, and Vesper grunted as he backhanded it away.

His eyes widened as spears of soul energy shot towards him, streaking to the side.

"What the—" He staggered as his wings caught in threads of soul energy.

Before he could pull himself free, Lilith whipped her threads around him, binding him tight.

With a dark grin, she placed a hand on his head and yanked his soul free.

"What the—" This time, it was her turn to be surprised.

Vesper chuckled at her reaction as he tore through the threads, his wings flaring. "Did you think I didn't prepare to fight you, Lilith?"

He stretched his hands wide. "I anchored my soul tightly to the Red Tree. It'll take more than that to—"

Ren blurred below Vesper, kicking upwards.

Vesper's head snapped backwards as Ren kicked him on the chin from below, launching him into the ceiling. There was a crack as he impacted it, but he didn't come back down.

He stared at them with a wide grin, his claws digging him into the stone and holding him in place. "Interesting."

All wounds, including the hole where his heart should be had already regenerated.

With a flare of his wings, he shot back down, sending the two diving away.

He swung his wing-blade at Ren, forcing him back. Then, Lilith's axe descended, cutting off a wing.

He roared as he seized Lilith and sent her flying into Ren.

The two of them tumbled to their feet, watching Vesper's wing grow back in a matter of seconds.

Lilith rose from a crouch, eyes glowing. "He's regenerating faster than before."

Ren nodded. "We need to end this now."

They both blurred forward, the floor cracking behind them.

Freedom flashed before Ren, pushing Vesper back. Vesper was fighting to not get hit by Freedom, parrying when he could and dodging when he couldn't. They could use that to their advantage.

Lilith's axe tore through a wing and she was forced to leap back as the other wing tore through where she had been standing.

As she was in the air, the axe morphed into a bow and arrow, and she fired several shots at Vesper as he dodged Freedom, piercing his wing, chest, and throat.

He laughed.

"You can tear me apart a thousand times." He snarled. "But I'll always come back."

He reached into the air, a spear made of red wood forming in his arms. He reached back and whipped them towards Lilith.

Lilith blurred to the side, rushing towards him. She lashed out with a soul-thread whip, wrapping it around Vesper's leg and yanking him off balance.

Ren was already there, Freedom pulled back.

Vesper's eyes widened, his wings flaring and pushing him out of the way. A split second later, Freedom sunk into the stone.

Vesper rose to his feet, but before he could do anything, Lilith already had him wrapped in soul threads.

Ren stamped on the ground, and vines speared out of it to wrap Vesper, restricting him even more.

He snarled, struggling to get out.

Lilith set her feet, and with a loud yell, she began pulling.

Vesper screamed in pain, struggling even more, but the bindings held.

Lilith pulled as hard as she could, her crimson eyes glowing. "You don't get to come back this time." She snarled.

And with a final pull, she yanked.

Vesper's body spasmed. Then, he went limp as his soul tore free.

A glowing blue orb streaked out of his chest, still attached to the soul thread. Lilith held it for a moment. Then, she crushed it.

The room fell silent.

They released Vesper's body and it collapsed like a puppet with its strings caught. A soul without a body.

"Fucking hell." Thorn swore from where he and Elias stood against the cell door of the Blood Chosen's cell, eyes wide.

"He should be—" Ren spoke, then the body twitched.

He immediately raised Freedom, Lilith materializing a giant axe.

That was when they noticed.

Vesper was regenerating.

Not a body. A soul.

He was growing a new soul.
