Extra's POV: My Obsessive Villainous Fiancee Is The Game's Final Boss-Chapter 157: Tithecraft
The sound of crickets filled the night as the fire burned in the small hole they'd dug into the ground.
Ren and Thorn were three days into their journey to the Underwood territory. If they'd be picking Lilith up to join them, it had to be done right. Not that anyone could stop Lilith from coming with them but it was the thought that counted.
There was also the fact that Lord Underwood had to give his blessings before Lilith could come with them. After all, they weren't married yet. That was still two years away.
Ren sat outside his small tent, on a log in front of the fire. Thorn sat opposite him, on the other side of the fire, his own back to his small tent.
They hadn't taken a lot of belongings, as they'd be roaming a lot, so the small tent had been a practical choice.
Thorn was sitting on his log, skinning the fish he'd caught from a nearby stream, the two of them alternating who would provide the food. They'd decided against taking food with them as it would just be unnecessary weight.
Ren, for his own part, was staring hard at the flames but he wasn't seeing it. Instead, his attention was on the system message in front of him. It was something he'd planned for and he was glad to see that it had worked.

He'd been confused at the name of the new type of magic, wondering what Druidic magic had turned into, until he finally figured out how to use it.
Just like how soul had been replaced with blood to create Soulbinding, berry powder had been replaced with money to create Tithecraft.
Ren dipped his hand inside his spatial pouch, his fingers closing around a gold coin. He activated his Tithecraft, his magic taking the tithe that was the gold, dissolving it into embers of energy that flowed into him, creating a buzz akin to getting slightly high.
Now, he could understand why the barbarians were so… wild during battle. A lot of them were mentally in the fourth dimension, high as a kite.
The intoxicating power filled his body, and his attention flicked to the three switches that were still in his body.
The one for plants was practically untouched. Ren wasn't interested in being able to manipulate vines. Not yet. Maybe if he wanted to create his own version of the Blood Tree or Green Tree or something like that.
There were no laws that said it couldn't be made. The only drawback was that it required a unique set of skills that he still didn't possess, and it would take at least a hundred years for the tree to mature and begin granting powers.
Fortunately for him, he was essentially immortal. As long as he kept Lilith happy.
The second switch, the one for animals, had been filled with some energy, when he'd been experimenting. He was still unsure if he'd get an animal familiar. It would probably just be his horse. He smiled at the idea of a horse that had been enhanced to the point that it could run twice as fast as other horses.
He dumped most of the energy in his body into the final switch, the switch that signified himself.
Energy flooded into his body through the switch, but it was different from the energy from paying the tithe. This time, there was no intoxicating buzz. Instead, it was like a heat. A heat that spread through him, suffusing his bones, muscles, cartilage, even his brain.
He could feel himself grow infinitesimally stronger and faster. The increase was negligible but over time, he would one day become the fastest person on earth, even faster than Lilith. The day that he'd be able to stand beside her Soul Dominion as an equal was not as far as it would otherwise be.

Ren dismissed the system message, smiling down at the fire as Thorn speared the fishes, preparing to roast them over the fire.
He'd tested his Tithecraft on silver and bronze coins, finding out that the energy he got from them is related to the value of the currency.
Since twenty bronze coins equaled one silver coin, he'd need to absorb the power of twenty bronze coins to obtain the same amount of energy he'd get from one silver coin. And following the same rule, he'd need ten silver coins to obtain the same amount of energy he'd get from one gold coin.
"Thinking about Lilith?" thorn asked as he set the stick over the fire, raising a brow at the expression on Ren's face.
"Surprisingly, no." Ren chuckled.
"So, you do spend most of your time thinking about Lilith." Thorn smirked. "Noted."
"As much as I'd love to encourage your delusions, also no." Ren chuckled.
"Then, why are you smiling like you're in love?"
"Because I'm in love." Ren crossed his arms, hunching lower and closer to the fire. "I get to practice Druidic magic without having to steal a limited supply of berry powder from barbarians or something like that."
"Honestly? That Divine Gift of yours is very scary." Thorn said. "If given enough time, whoever the wielder is can become the strongest person in the world. As long as they don't get themselves killed like I'm sure you would."
Ren flipped him off.
"That's all well and good but I'm much more interested in something else." Thorn nodded his head towards the sword laying beside Ren's feet. "Freedom."
Ren's gaze went down to it and he picked it up. He unsheathed it slightly, the blade reflecting the light of the fire like an almost perfect mirror.
"How are you going to integrate it into your build?" Thorn asked.
"At this point, I'm not even sure I need to maintain a build. With Unfettered Enhancement, I can just imbue whatever the fuck I want and it'll be okay." Ren grinned.
"True." Thorn nodded. "But you can't just keep a whole bucket load of imbued items around. It'll slow down your advancement. After all, all imbued items advance with you and the more you have, the slower you advance."
Ren exhaled, sheathing Freedom. "So, I have to pick which imbuement to release and which to keep."
"Exactly."
