Doted By The Regent King-Chapter 572: On the Thought Patterns of Ancient People
Chapter 572: Chapter 572: On the Thought Patterns of Ancient People
Just before the County Government Office sealed the properties, Liu Jin managed to settle the affairs of the grocery store and estate, and Wufu acquired two more land deeds for estates and two for stores. She brought them all to Madam Zhou, who couldn’t stop wiping away her tears, overcome with emotion.
One estate had been enough of a foundation for a home, but now with the addition of these properties, Madam Zhou would never have to worry about Wufu’s future. No matter what happened, her daughter now had the capital she needed to establish herself firmly in life, able to stand tall and confident.
On the twenty-first day of the twelfth lunar month, the government office sealed the deals, and both grocery stores had already been handed over. Though the original Suixin Restaurant was a place Wufu had considered keeping as a restaurant, she retained the previous staff, including the supervisor and the waiter. However, for the accounting, Wufu found a scholar for the job.
In her past life, Wufu had never conducted business; all she knew were theories that she had never put into practice. Besides, she needed to focus on carving the hairpins required by Ah Jiu and didn’t have the spare time to manage the business. She asked Purple Jade about it, and though not experienced, she had some understanding. So Wufu entrusted Liu Jin and Purple Jade with the two stores, instructing them to draft a detailed plan. Wufu would then finalize it with finishing touches, and that’s how the business would get up and running.
The plan’s specifics would take some time to shape up, so the first order of business was to renovate the restaurant and come up with a new name for it.
As for the other store, it was to be a grocery store, since West City was populated more by people of the middle and lower classes. After consulting with Madam Zhou, they decided to turn it into a grocery store selling various everyday items, which could also stock goods from their estates.
Ah Jiu had noticed Wufu’s movements of buying stores and estates and couldn’t conceal his displeasure upon hearing about the acquisition process of Suixin Restaurant, his face turning as sour as if he had swallowed a fly.
Just then, Wufu had come to seek him out for ideas for the new restaurant’s name, and Ah Jiu had prepared a roasting oven with food and tea to welcome her in the pavilion.
"You really know how to enjoy life, admiring the view while roasting meat," said Wufu comfortably as she sipped her tea, looking out at the snowy scene and heaving a sigh.
Ah Jiu’s laughter, however, seemed strained.
"What’s wrong? Not happy?" Wufu sharp sensed his lack of enthusiasm.
"I heard you bought two stores," said Ah Jiu.
Wufu nodded, "That’s right, and that’s why I came to see you. The store I bought was originally a restaurant, and I plan to keep it as one but under a new name. I’m stumped. Do you have any good ideas?"
"You should have come to me," Ah Jiu said with a frown. "Why did you ask Wen Lao Si for a favor? Now the rumor around town is that you belong to the County Magistrate."
Pfft!
Wufu spat out her tea in shock, "You’re joking, right?"
Ah Jiu looked at her with seriousness in his eyes, and his voice took on a deep tone, "Although it’s you who bought the store, after the affair with the deputy governor and his brother-in-law, that’s what people have come to believe."
"That’s a huge misunderstanding!" exclaimed Wufu indignantly. "All I did was ask Lord Wen to flex some official muscle and made a deal with him. How did that turn into me being his person? Who is spreading these rumors about me?"
"So why didn’t you come to me initially? It was just a minor store," he said, suggesting that it wasn’t worth damaging her reputation. To be known as a person belonging to Wen Lao Si?
Ah Jiu was visibly annoyed, his expression grew even darker.
"This is a beautiful misunderstanding indeed," Wufu said, half amused and half exasperated as she recounted the full details of what happened. "They really have some imagination. All I did was borrow a bit of power!"
How did ancient people’s thought processes work? She simply leveraged a bit of influence, and now she was being accused of having an unclear relationship with Lord Wen? This was seriously unfair!
