Divine Luck: SSS-Rank Battle Maid Harem-Chapter 591: Go Around
Darkwing had brought them through the tunnels, which had been adapted for it and the Millipede's expedient travels, all the way to the big tunnel at the bottom that had been made during Ugor's time.
Zach hopped off and looked at the tunnel. It was a lot more lively than last time. It was filled with traps and defensive measures, all of them pointing in the opposite direction. They weren't joking about an invasion.
Zach's eyes narrowed as he felt a chill from deeper inside the tunnel.
"Violina…?" He said questioningly before walking into the tunnel. Anerias and Nessa looked at each other with grave expressions before following him and his maids.
It didn't take long for Zach to arrive in front of the great wall of ice dividing the tunnel. He frowned as his gaze sharpened when looking at the center of the ice wall. There was a silhouette in there—a familiar silhouette.
He turned to Nessa.
Nessa sighed and hung her head.
"I mentioned how we met someone that not even Zoe could deal with, right?"
Zach gave a curt nod. If Zoe could have handled it, they wouldn't have needed to ask for his weak and sickly self's help.
"Violina stopped them. She…We don't know exactly what she did, but she used herself and her familiars to squeeze out as much ice and frost as possible before condensing it into this wall. Without it, we would have already been overrun by the enemy's troops," Nessa explained.
"But she's alive, right?"
"As far as we can tell, yes," Anerias answered, unable to look away from Violina.
Zach nodded with relief. As long as she was alive.
Right then, he heard thumps and thuds from the other side of the wall. The invaders were trying to break down the ice wall. He raised an eyebrow and looked at the other two.
"Violina's wall has been up for a couple of weeks, and we have yet to notice them making any progress."
Zach pursed his lips and turned back to the wall. He glanced to the sides.
"Is there a need for them to break through the wall, though?" He asked. The other two tilted their heads.
"Can't they just go around it?" He clarified. The Puppeteer had dug the tunnel. It had taken a while, but that was because it was long. The Puppeteer also hadn't seemed like the strongest.
If someone strong enough to defeat Zoe, however, were to join the excavation efforts, wouldn't the solid bedrock crumble and make way, opening up a path around the ice wall?
The two stared blankly at Zach. It had been the right idea to bring him in. He realized at once what had taken them a day to realize.
"There's no need to worry," Someone said from behind them.
Zach turned around with a wide smile and grabbed the man.
It was Dukiel.
Dukiel returned it happily. The situation and circumstances were dire, but it was a joyful reunion nonetheless.
"I Enhanced it with my contract skill," He explained after Zach let him go. It was the mysterious contract skill he got from the contract with his third familiar, the S-rank Symbiotic Slime.
Zach's eyes lit up.
A lot of days had passed since they last met. He was curious about all the things that Dukiel had used his once-a-day contract skill on.
"Regardless of what happens, this tunnel is going to take a beating. It's just as well that I strengthen it, at least in the areas under our control."
Zach nodded at Dukiel's words.
The Underworld had already fought against the mysterious invaders in the tunnel, but the fight and invasion had just begun. It would most likely only escalate from here. If things really went to shit and a destructive fight with no holds barred broke out, the tunnel might just end up crumbling. Neither side would like that.
A tunnel this big collapsing could also destabilize the ground in a wide area. The surface might sink in, but, more importantly, the collapse might spread to the rest of the Underworld. That was why they couldn't bring the tunnel down to seal off the invaders and keep them away.
"And Julius…?" Zach asked, looking around. Since Violina was just next to them, the only one missing from their little friend group was Julius.
"He's staying by Zoe's side on the sixth layer most of the time."
It seemed Zoe was in pretty bad shape.
Zach turned back to the ice wall.
"So, what do we think?"
"About…?" Nessa asked for some clarification on the sudden question.
"This whole thing. The Puppeteer. The invasion. The invaders. The connections. Their relation to Ugor. Can we handle it? If they're from another continent, what are the odds that their highest power is on the same level as ours? I mean, what if they have someone like the principal?"
Zach's words sent shivers down their spine.
Since they were dealing with the invasion, they thought they had prepared themselves for the worst since that was better than not being prepared enough.
But Zach's mind was apparently a little more pessimistic than theirs.
The idea of someone like the principal being on the invaders' side scared them. If that was the case, they could just give up right now.
"That's…reasonable. Even if they have a rule like ours that the past generations shouldn't get involved, there's no guarantee that a rule like that doesn't apply to other continents." Dukiel crossed his arms. His expression was as dark as the others', but he was still trying to think rationally.
"Are you guys suggesting that we talk to people like Violina's great-grandfather or the principal or something?" Anerias asked.
"The principal will probably tell us to deal with it ourselves with his 'nothing's impossible' philosophy." Nessa snorted.
"And we'll try. It's not like we can walk away, right? But we should inform people on the surface so that if we fail, they can have our backs."
The other three stared at Zach in surprise.
He had changed.
