Chapter 145: Chapter 145 Time Fog_1

Drudgeon leaped up, and the stele behind him vanished simultaneously, as several magic circles of different colors and sizes appeared around him. A sturdy, rainbow-colored barrier protected everyone, and the fierce attacks of the Flame Giant Ape struck the barrier, causing ripples to spread across it.

Noticing the increasing number of Fire Monkeys around them, Feng Yuan walked over to the White Wolf Deity and exchanged a glance before he raised his greatsword. The White Wolf Deity let out a long howl, returning to its original form as white magical runes covered its body, oozing deep blue energy. Feng Yuan closed his eyes and began chanting softly.

Seeing the multitude of gear phantoms floating around Feng Yuan, Qi Xiaoshuang immediately understood Feng Yuan’s intentions and couldn’t help but shout,

"Is that really necessary!"

Feng Yuan just smiled and shook his head. With a forceful thrust of his greatsword into the ground, countless gear phantoms appeared next to the Fire Monkeys, freezing them in place as if they were encased in ice. Upon seeing the Flame Giant Ape come to a halt under the phantoms of gears, Feng Yuan shouted,

"Run, now!"

Captain Yang quickly ushered the Spirit Beasts to protect the group as they glanced at the immobilized Flame Giant Ape, whose fiery energy from its blade attack had just been unleashed. Qi Chen, supporting a somewhat fatigued Feng Yuan, followed closely behind the White Wolf Deity. Understanding what Feng Yuan had done, the group fell silent and hurried along, following Drudgeon’s guidance. They eventually reached the foot of a huge mountain, and Feng Yuan sighed in relief after confirming there were no strange creatures around.

"That totally exhausted me..."

The greatsword in Feng Yuan’s hand dissipated into points of light, and he leaned on Qi Chen, clearly worn out. Qi Xiaoshuang said somewhat speechlessly,

"So why did you have to use your ultimate move? It’s like you’re just asking for trouble... We could have handled it with a bit more effort."

"Well, the monkeys just kept multiplying..."

Feng Yuan scratched his head and grinned. Captain Yang gave him a glance, saying nothing. Qi Chen patted Qi Xiaoshuang on the shoulder and said,

"Come on, at least we got past that troupe of monkeys quickly, right?"

As he recalled the monkeys frozen by the successive gear phantoms in the forest, Qi Chen felt a bit helpless. Perhaps, as Feng Yuan had said, they had inadvertently stumbled upon a monkey den. Drudgeon stared at the cave entrance in front of him, his pointed ears twitching as if puzzled. After a moment, Drudgeon’s voice reached Feng Yuan’s ear,

"The resting place of Yognot seems to be sealed by a strange force of time and space."

Captain Yang walked over to Drudgeon and reached out to touch the air in front of him, only to find that, no matter how hard he tried, his hand could not pass through an invisible barrier. Feng Yuan came over, took a look, and said,

"Time fog. The White Wolf Deity can break through it, but we all need to stay close to the White Wolf Deity. Inside the time fog, the range of the Rune Stone Barrier will be suppressed."

Hearing Feng Yuan’s explanation, Captain Yang called everyone to gather close to the White Wolf Deity. After confirming everyone was ready, he nodded at the White Wolf Deity, which understood and tapped its left paw. A deep blue shimmer emerged from the Rune Stone Barrier, and as the White Wolf Deity moved forward, the barrier slowly merged into the unseen barrier.

Entering the cave, darkness gradually surrounded them. Wu Feng waved his hand, and several bright flames floated around the group. Seeing that these flames could only illuminate a very small area amidst the foggy surroundings, Qi Xiaoshuang said to Feng Yuan,

"Put away your creepy ghost fire, will you? Look how normal Wu Feng’s flames are."

"Tch, if the power of the Death Series is like this, you blame me?"

Feng Yuan said somewhat discontentedly but still gathered up the surrounding blue flames. Qi Chen looked at Qi Xiaoshuang discontentedly, and Yang Hongzhi patted Qi Chen’s shoulder and shook his head. As everyone moved forward, a child’s laughter rang out, followed by a series of speech-like sounds that the group couldn’t understand. Qi Xiaoshuang looked at the runes circling her, puzzled.

After a while, the child’s tone seemed to change. Though incomprehensible, everyone could detect disdain from the intonation and temper. A mournful roar followed; the voice’s disgust became more and more pronounced. After a while, as the despairing growls faded, the child’s voice no longer resounded.

"What is this all about?"

Unable to contain her curiosity, Qi Xiaoshuang shook Feng Yuan’s arm and asked. Feng Yuan, seeing Xiao Ji in his arms also looking at him with curiosity, smiled and poked Xiao Ji as he said,

"This is perfectly normal. Not all communication-type ultimate moves are omnipotent; there are always times when they fail~"

"Tch, I thought you would have some special explanation."

"What kind of special explanation could there be? That voice wasn’t emitted by a living entity. The targets of all communication-type ultimate moves have to be living beings to be effective."

Just as Qi Xiaoshuang was about to ask something else, a flash of white light passed by. When everyone could see clearly again, to their surprise, they found themselves not in a cave but on a vast plain surrounded by dense grass in bloom with various colorful flowers. A girl, around twelve years old, was dressed in simple homespun clothes, placing a flower garland onto the head of a smiling six-year-old boy with delight, while a twelve-year-old boy looked on disapprovingly.

"What is this?"

As Qi Xiaoshuang wondered, everything around her froze in time. The girl’s smile remained just as sweet. Outside of the White Wolf Deity’s barrier, the scenery aged rapidly like an old photograph, yellowing with numerous black spots emerging and spreading swiftly, plunging back into darkness once again.

"What the hell!"

Qi Xiaoshuang stamped her feet in frustration. Feng Yuan seemed to guess what it was and sighed, holding Xiao Ji tightly. The Dreaming Dragon Baby nestled on Feng Yuan’s shoulder, raised its little head warily looking around. Big Cat seemed dazed, following behind Feng Yuan, but a strange light gleamed in its eyes.

The darkness gradually dispersed, revealing a dilapidated village before everyone. Wooden structures burned fiercely, and a man embraced a woman lying in a pool of blood, seemingly wailing loudly. The six-year-old boy, still wearing the flower garland, stood to one side. After a long time, the man sorrowfully adjusted the woman’s clothes, and the boy took the garland from his head and placed it on the woman, as if to send her off while spectral beasts seemed to be battling in the distance, with various ultimate moves appearing in the distant sky.

The space was filled with countless black cracks that shattered like broken glass into myriad flying fragments, and the surroundings again sank into darkness. Qi Xiaoshuang leaned silently against the White Wolf Deity. After a while, seeing no further strange changes, Captain Yang signaled everyone to move forward. Suddenly, a giant white drop of water appeared out of nowhere in front of the group, rapidly spreading white that dyed everything around it.

As the whiteness gradually dissipated, everyone found themselves in an ancient wooden grand hall. Without paying much attention to the exquisite carvings on the surrounding pillars, their gazes were drawn to the people who seemed to be arguing in the center of the hall. A burly middle-aged man seemed to be in a dispute with others, with the little boy hiding fearfully behind the middle-aged man, looking at the people arguing with him.

Drudgeon sighed softly, his peaked ears drooping as if he felt a touch of loss. After arguing for a while, the middle-aged man and the others parted ways unhappily, and the man left with the little boy as the disgruntled group pointed in the direction they left, conversing amongst themselves.

The surroundings gradually faded to a pale image before the darkness reclaimed everything once more...

After waiting a while with no changes, Captain Yang sighed and was about to lead the group forward when a green dot of light appeared in front of them, expanding rapidly. Once again, they found themselves on that grassy plain.
